canadian girl I’m not quite sure that he’s actually doing it right. He did not do a blood test before and after his 30 days. He didn’t test his ketone level nor blood glucose level before and after meals. A can of tuna is not a good choice on keto meal. A can of sardines would be a better choice. He didn’t mention how he replenish electrolytes while he was on the diet. I honestly think that this video of his is not planned well. It’s more for entertainment and of course for giving a shout out for his sponsor Trive.

R C He has said in pass videos that he is a bad cook. If you have watched his morning routines he makes breakfast. You can't expect someone (even a doctor) to know immediately what to do for keto. Maybe he didn't know that you have to get your blood tested. Maybe he did. Also he said he was bad at planning, and probably doesn't have a lot of time between work and RUclips. Also, he is a DO not an MD.

    • @giannag4917

R C He did it because his viewers wanted him too. And even though they may have the same privileges they do have slightly different courses. DO is osteopathic and more of an holistic approach to medicine, MD is allopathic.

I agree! She is great! But because of developing diabetic gastroparesis when my diabetes was out of control, she sent me to a gastroenterologist. He was TOTALLY against my doing Keto and IF. He gave me a lecture about me ruining my health and told me to go back on the Standard American Diet. That diet was the one that I was using when my diabetes got so out of control in the first place. Needless to say, I won't be going back to him. I still have trouble with the gastroparesis but not near as often as I did before I went Keto.

Dr Mike inspired me to go keto. I started a bit over a week ago at 170 pounds. I'm 164 now. I eat quite a lot. Ate spaghetti squash, canned tuna, baked salmon, a lot of spinach, a bit of almonds, cloud bread BLT. I'm so so so so so happy about food choices. I'm a bread carb addict. If you wanna complain about how somebody did keto just go back to Gabbie's video - Dr. Mike gave a reasonable and well thought out response while still making an entertaining video. He neither endorsed nor recommended against the diet and said that every body is different.

My stomach (that's now flat again for the first time since menopause!), and digestive system, thank me every pain-free day since, along with my lack of painful joints, including my feet and knees! Now again go through each item one by one and consider how many contain healthy fats. Proof that carbs make us fat and are readily available but healthy fats... Not so much.

I went to my doctor due to "hypertensive crisis" blood pressure. Told her I was gonna start keto that day since I had been reading about it for a few months and she was very against it.
She put me on medication and told me to eat lean meats and whole grains. I took the meds but started keto. Had to go back a few months later due to waking up in a zombie-like brain fog because my blood pressure was 90/60. Had to drink a half pot of coffee to function. She changed my medication. A few months later, same problem and another medication change. Again, it happened. I weaned myself off the meds and went back for a check-up and blood work. Everything was perfect including blood pressure.
2 years later and everything is still perfect. Especially triglycerides, which causes the little mobile lipid tests to error because they won't read under 45.

My results have changed my doctor's mind about keto, I've lost 50 lbs, my a1c has normalized and I no longer have chronic migraines or hypertension. A lot better pricing on a lot of the items we need for keto. That said, I do agree it is convenience that is the most difficult thing with keto. Number one thing I found was my legs and ankles that hurt for years stopped. Something was making our legs hurt from what we had eaten. I feel 15 years younger already and it's my first week in full Ketosis. I have already lost 20 pounds in a month and wife is right behind me at 18 pounds. We use cronometer to track our progress and vitamin intake. This is going to be the easiest diet ever for me for the simple fact I don't like pain. I have zero urge to cheat. A 1x1x6 inch slice of watermelon is awesome on keto. For bread I recently discovered Carbquik which, at 2 grams carbs per 1/3 cup is absolutely incredible. Jicama that has been pressure cooked for 1/2 hour is an excellent potato substitute.
The last time I did keto it was hard because Jicama wasn't a known veggie in the low-carb community but the only issue I have now is ordering takeout.
With all the incredibly low to zero carb options for main meals these days, many fruits are ok in controlled quantities on keto.
Kiwi, star fruit, nectarine, watermelon, berries, etc.
And he could have added dill pickle relish to that "cat food" along with a leaf of lettuce for a more enjoyable lunch.
He should have had a friend on keto helping him through since he was doing a video.

Exactly...a doctor.. and no steak. Nor, even though he is in the heart of New York and has both a paid staff in his office and a paid staff doing his production work... He couldn't use GrubHub to send him a personalized restaurant meal or had someone prepare it for him. But the camera was going so he had to mug, wink, and act the victim that he had to eat one little can of salmon. (This is why I stopped watching Dr Mike. Medical truth needed to step aside for him to play to the camera.)

EXACTLY!! He's in New York. That he couldn't have had a large side of sauerkraut with his bunless hot dog??? I had watched Dr Mike for quite a while before swearing off his channel. You need to start subtracting realistic medical advice by how many times he mugs to the camera. He always is able to throw in goofy, "aw-schucks guys" moments while he plays free and loose with the medical facts.

Been on KETO/OMAD for a year. The first month I was inconsistent KETO at best, had electrolyte issues, weakness issues, did several carb refeeds and cheats. Dropped 10 lb.
    Fast forward to now:
    Crazy energy
    Great workouts
    Increasing muscle
    Lifting progressively heavier weights
Can go all day, no crash
Another benefit is quickly acclimatizing to high altitude with no side effects.

I did keto without a doctor. I listen to my body. After 2 weeks my sugar cravings were gone. I did my research first. Went on some magnesium, d3, K2. I didn't get the keto flu. Prepping is great even if you don't do keto. Yesterday I made country pork ribs and sauteed cabbage. So freaking good.i been doing this for 1 year and I am feeling great.

True, i feel like somehow i accept that im experimenting on my own body with keto, to see how i react after a few month, ive lost 30 pounds in 5 months and im not doing a particularly great job, i try to avoid breaking out of keto but i do it every so often, like every other weekend or so, the process is defi itely slower but i feel healthier indulging in some carbs every now and then. Im feeling good health wise so far but i should probably get sone testing going after 6 month to check on those colesterol levels

Yup, it can be less convenient and challenging in some social situations. The longer you are on keto the easier workouts become, in fact there are many pro athletes now going keto, so that negative is more short term. :) I love living the keto lifestyle and have been for 2 years. My blood pressure and blood work are both better than ever and I honestly feel 20 years younger... and well, 20 years thinner, because I am. :D And I eat a lot of greens with keto and some berries, because although you can be keto without those things, and get carbs from other sources, I feel great when I get my carbs from berries and leafy greens and avocados. Cooking from scratch will always be the healthiest option but of course he is not alone in not going the easy route.

I've been on this diet now for 2 weeks. It's been a struggle for me because I am a serial snacker. I found a work around though by making veggie chips in my dehydrator out of cauliflower, zucchini, green beans, and cabbage. It's really hard on my husband because he doesn't like drinking water, tea, or coffee. He is sticking to it though and working on drinking water as much as he can. Especially since this diet WAS recommended to him by his doctor. Well technically he said low carb not Keto, but keto has been the closest thing I could find.
I do love that Dr.Mike was so open to this and gave the opinions he did. It actually encourages me a lot in doing this that he didn't shoot it down or anything. That he saw results. That he looked at the pros and cons and that, as you said, the cons really aren't that bad.

The only thing I think that a big difference for me was the mental improvement, clarity, no brain fog etc. but I did use Brain Octane very often and with my coffee. He didn't say if he did pure C8 oil so it would interesting to see if he did or would how that might change his thoughts on his mental improvement.

I originally started keto with a three month trial. I think that long of a commitment forces people to start expanding into cooking keto and by the third month you have a more intuitive idea of what is good or bad to eat so it is much easier to maintain. I got to that point and when it got to the time when I could get off keto I just couldn’t justify it. I knew I didn’t need sugar, bread, buns, apples or bananas. I found my snack replacements and great sugar free desserts I made. Now a year and a half later I have zero regrets and even got a coworker to join me when she saw how well I adjusted to it. So socially keto actually can get better too.
The only things I miss are beans and rice. And hey if I have a cheat day where I have some Cuban beans and rice with some great pork, that isn’t the worst meal ever.

I've been on keto for 2 months now and I was able to relate to Doctor Mike's experience, even though in the beginning I was definitely eating a good amount of veggies. Although I am getting good results so far (thank God) I definitely miss my fruits, and I still get cravings for sweets. The struggle is real, as I have always had a sweet tooth and avoiding dessert has been a challenge for me. Keto baking is just not doing it for me. When I reach my goal weight, I do wanna go back to eating carbs (moderately), focusing mostly on good carbs like lentils, bulgur, beans, chick peas, and all that. Can you guys please make a video on how to transition from keto to a more kind of low-carb diet for maintaining weight?
