Thanks Debra! There were a few pretty mountain views along the way, but I didn't have the camera ready for those - or there were too many tractor trailers too close... lol I will definitely pass along a hug from DD :)
Good video. Felt same as you about RTR... parked with friends, so gave up having my normal preferred, less crowded, spot. And it was great there, amazingly good "mojo", considering how many folks were there. Hope you enjoy your visit to Tucson... I love it here. Take care.
Thank you! The RTR was a good experience - and it was my first winter gathering. I would like to have had more free time while I was there and to have stayed for the whole event, but at least I made it for a week.
Last year, I did 3 days. This year, I did one week. Lol. MAYBE next year, I will do two weeks... but just stay out on the fringe of things. I was meeting up with a bunch of lady vanners, so had to stay in the thick of things, but totally enjoyed it, even if it was crowded. OH>>>> I am going to pm you a suggestion for a place to check out in Tucson area. Let me go see if you have an "About" tab... lol...
Great video. Enjoy Tucson, My wife and I go there frequently. If you leave Tucson on the I-10 there is a road called East Park Link Road, the road is a connector between I-10 and Highway 79. about 4 miles after exiting the I-10 there is B.L.M. non developed (Boondocking) camping on the North (left) side of the road. Not many people and the most beautiful desert different fauna then quartzsite. Have any questions contact me.
That is definitely the hardest part for me. The good thing is that it means I can be flexible to take advantage of opportunities like this when family is nearby.
You're right - there's nothing better than granddaughters! I miss mine -- a little jealous that you get to see yours. lol Seriously, enjoy every minute with them and I hope you have a blast and make some good memories! :-)
Robert I just saw the video you and Debra did for the last one. It was so touching and wonderful. I admire you for the time that you gave to help a fellow nomad. I hope that some day I can meet up with you. You seem like an incredible guy. Not many of the left in the world. Hope that you weekend went well and you enjoyed the grandkids. Hope that your travels go well and enjoy...... Joyce
Thanks for the kind words! Truly appreciated. Debra is a wonderful person and it was a pleasure to travel with her and to help her launch her RUclips channel. I actually helped her launch her channel before mine. I had a great weekend with my grandchildren and the travel was all nice and uneventful. I always enjoy meeting viewers so be sure to say hello if you see me somewhere!
Sam, it was nice to meet you at the RTR. Sadly, I was busy with work a lot during the event and had to leave early so I didn't get to visit with folks as much as I would have liked. I enjoyed being able to meet so many fellow travelers though. I was really happy with how well the camera shot worked out in this video. I used an off-brand Glif to hold the iPhone and mounted it on a Gorilla Pod mini tripod. The legs were splayed so that it could sit on the dash. Fortunately, the dash in this van if flat enough and has a lip in just the right place that it worked well. Previous attempts in other vehicles have not turned out quite as good. lol The trailer is up for sale. Bob is helping coordinate the sale at the RTR. If you know anyone who might be interested, please have them get in touch with Bob. Thanks for watching!
great video. when did you get a van. last time I saw you have a small converted trailer. how do you like the van. hope that you enjoy grandkids and other family. have a great weekend glad that you enjoyed the RTR. you catch the best and most beautiful sunsets, they are wonderful. Joyce
Thank you! I just got into the van a few days before the RTR. It was on my idea list for a little while, but it came together unexpectedly fast thanks to a fellow nomad upgrading to another rig.
how do you like living in a van. is it easier than a trailer or not. how are your grandchildren? do they ever camp with you? looks like a nice park that you are in now. hope that you have a great time with family. Joyce
Anton Bouchette, this is just a basic Schwinn hybrid. Kind of a cross between a road bike and mountain bike. Of course, that means that it does neither extreme great, but I find it to be a nice balance for multi-use trails and BLM/Forest Service roads which is mostly the type of places where I ride. I have used it as transportation to town though, like in Oregon this fall when we were camped about three miles outside of a town. I believe the retail on this bike is about $300, but I found it on sale last spring for less than $200.
I do carry a tent, but I do not use it often. I used to use it more when I was living out of a Toyota Camry, but with the minivan I have a comfortable bed set up in the back.
I lived in Tucson 10 years, I really miss it!! There is a place called Snyder Hill in Tucson, you probably passed it as you went through town on your way to Benson....It's BLM boondocking.
Have a safe trip, Grandkids are awesome, enjoy your visit!
Thank you! I am looking forward to the weekend. They are the light of my life.
I enjoyed seeing your campsite Robert. Also enjoyed the drive. Way to go! Give those girls a hug for me! :))
Thanks Debra! There were a few pretty mountain views along the way, but I didn't have the camera ready for those - or there were too many tractor trailers too close... lol I will definitely pass along a hug from DD :)
Safe travels. Enjoy your granddaughters this weekend. I'm so happy that you are able to visit with them.
Thank you. It is definitely a treat for me and for them :)

Nice to see you enjoyed - have fun with the kids :)
Thank you. It was a great gathering, but very much looking forward to playing with granddaughters too :)

Thank you! I may check that out. I will let you know if I go there.
thank you Robert great video u used a word that explained how I am introverted thank u sir again
Thanks for watching. I am glad that you enjoyed the video. I think a lot of nomads are introverted, though there are certainly some exceptions. lol
Enjoy your family time! That will be the hardest part of full-time vandwelling, but my kids are okay with it so far!

that's true
Amazing how you keep Camera/image stable while driving !
Where is the trailer?

Hey Robert can you tell me briefly about your bike and the cost. I only have an old 10 speed touring bike......obviously not for the outback. Thanks.
I know what you mean about grandchildren, that is why I moved away from Tucson, to be close to mine.
The grandchildren definitely impact my travel schedule. I would pretty much stay in the Arizona area year round were it not for family in other areas.
Did you sleep in your vehicle or in a tent?
Nevermind. I should of waited to hear you state you slept at the truck stop. I will have to look for your video on your vehicle.
I do carry a tent, but I do not use it often. I used to use it more when I was living out of a Toyota Camry, but with the minivan I have a comfortable bed set up in the back.

Thanks for the tip. I ended up not staying over there too long, but will keep that in mind for when I am back in that area.
