    That rest area is legit my favorite place to stop when coming into AZ. It's my first place I ever stopped in AZ before I moved there. I can't put into words how amazing it felt as someone who grew up on the east coast and knew nothing of the desert. I take a different way into and out of the valley now with how bad traffic is on the 10, but I love that spot.

    Onion hack. Keep the end with the hairs intact. If you're dicing slice through the middle of the hairs (or root) (whatever it is lol) and then use the root as your handle. If slicing make the part with the hairs the last thing you slice. Removing that part off the onion is what releases the fumes.

    Hi Ryan. Just subscribed from sunny Malaysia. A very long time ago I studied in the US and during summers used to travel a fair bit with an American friend who sadly died fighting for his country in Iraq. We had a beat up car he drove and meandered all over in quite the similar fashion you do now. Your video brings back memories and although it has changed so much, I am able to relive our youth and the memory of that friend by living vicariously through you.
    Thank you for bringing this old soldier fond memories of his youth and his much missed old buddy, may God bless his soul and bless you.
    Also you did mention that it gets lonely sometimes. Well know this, you have more than a 100k companions waiting for the delayed telecast and our spirit is with you.
    Bon voyage and many great days ahead, my young adventurer.

    Just a quick suggestion...if you put the onion in the freezer for about 5 to 10 minutes right before you cut them, the vapors in the onions will freeze. That should eliminate your eyes being assaulted.

    As someone who works in the food industry and went to school for it. The only real good way to avoid onion burn on your eyes is to make sure your knife is razor sharp. If it isn’t, you have to force the knife while you slice and onion juice mists into the air.

    Yes, it would probably be a good idea to check out a place a little bit before you arrive, but either way it’s fun watching your explorations. I also think you and your van are absolutely stealth, although now that I know so many people are living in their vans, I am much more aware and basically think whenever I see one like yours, is that a stealth van?? Lol.

    A chef said the reason that happens with the onions is because we aren’t using knives that are sharp enough, so it’s literally squeezing juices into the air. He showed two close up’s, one with a blunt knife and one with a really sharp knife. It should just glide through the onion

  • @nickyp310
    @nickyp310 9 месяцев назад +1

    Here's a pro tip for cutting onions. If they are making your eyes water, it means your knife is dull. A dull knife will crush the cell walls of the onion and release the tear causing vapors, where a sharp will cut cleanly through them.

    This might be a little too touristy for your taste, but Sedona has two cool things you could check out that might be on your route. The first is a short hike to Devil's Bridge. It's not too long of a hike from a car to get there, and it's not too awful scary as far as heights go. Also, if you had a bit of time and didn't mind spending a few bucks, there is a thing called the Pink Jeep Tour in Sedona that was really fun. Can't wait to watch more of your upcoming videos!

    Ryan If you’re driving from Tucson I-10 thru Phoenix then you can either go to East Valley Mesa/Apache Junction Arizona Renaissance Festival or Goldfield Ghost Town. Or for food stops in Phoenix area you either need to stop at Chino Bandido Guy Fieri ate there or Little Miss BBQ or you need to stop at a Mexican Meat Market like Carnicera Sonora so you can buy some authentic carne asada and cook in your van preferably grill though then you can stop at Lake Pleasant to camp out by the biggest lake in Phoenix area. Then driving up through I-17 north to Flagstaff then stop at Rock Springs Cafe in Black Canyon City for some awesome pie 🥧!! But you do need to stop at Jerome small mining town just west of Cottonwood and Sedona.

    Great video, Ryan! FYI, the fajita meat to use is skirt steak. Good eats but yours looked yummy! 😊

    RYAN!! Onions release a gas from them that goes to the nearest water source, which would be your eyes. So if you set a cup of water next to the onion it will go to that instead. Also try to keep the onion on the cutting board!🙏

    If you wear glasses when chopping onions, it’ll help a lot. Safety glasses are the best, but I use sunglasses a lot because they’re usually handy. Safe travels my man!

    If you are still in Tucson area, a couple of places to visit are Saguaro National Park, and Mt. Lemmon Hwy. If you are passing through UT you should visit Moab, UT, the Vista's are amazing and Arches National Park is a treat. Don't forget to stop at Sedona, Az, simply beautiful.
