    Very nice video. A couple of observations:
    - use snow mode only when driving on deeper snow (not plowed road)
    - (told by an eco driving teacher) when starting an hybrid car in colder temperatures always let the thermal engine start by pressing the accelerator pedal when in P, and let it run at standstill (or driving at minimum speed) for a minute, to let the engine warm up before using it to charge the battery. It may sound counterintuitive but overall that improves fuel efficiency

    I got the opportunity to test drive this car for an entire day and it is an amazing SUV. Really spacious, quiet, with plenty of power for the day-to-day commutes. A lot of tech that works quite well, and it is also a good-looking car from the outside and inside. The only thing I didn't like was the fuel consumption. The EV only mode is pointless as the battery capacity is minuscule, and the hybrid system is weird, because it never pushes the battery, therefore the engine works a lot of times. My average for the entire day in city driving and some highway, for total of 100km, was 6.7l/100km. My current Qashqai without any hybrid systems does 5.5l/100km.
    If fuel consumption is particularly important to you, I would consider other options with plugin-hybrid systems or some full electric. If 6 to 7 litres/100km is within reason for you, this is simply the best SUV under 55.000€/$.

      Great comment. I'm planning to test drive this one as well since the price is fair I would say considering how much car and equipment you get with it compared to the competition. 2 questions: 1. how did you find the ride comfort? is it comfortable? I would like a comfortable car, a not a hard stiff ride of a "sporty" car. 2. did you play around with lane keep assist? Is the system good? Thanks!

      @@vjekan Thanks. The ride is pretty comfortable for an SUV with no adaptive dampers or air suspension. It is great over bumps, very quiet over cobblestone streets, and doesn't lean too much in corners, it doesn't have a boat-y feeling, feels quite grounded and composed. The lane keep assist works well on highways. In city driving forget it. However, the adaptive cruise control works well at all speeds and is amazing in city driving with traffic. It completely stops the cars and starts again when needed. The self-parking is decent, my only gripe with it, after testing BMW's system, is that you must be the one finding the spot and then let the car know you want to park it there. The car will still analyse if the cars fits, but BMW's system is better because you can activate it and drive slowly, and the car will let you know when it finds a spot.
      The e-pedal mode is good, but not great, because the car doesn't go to a full stop. The only time the car stops by itself is when the adaptive cruise control is active and the car in front stops as well, and you can't change the regeneration force of the B mode, but B mode and e-pedal together provides a great city driving experience.

      @@thegeekdeveloper Thanks for the detailed reply. I don't know what to get to be honest, I'm looking for a family car with a lot of room in the backseat for 2 child seats and maybe a person between the child seats as well. I considered the Skoda Superb, now this X-Trail caught my eye, I'm also looking at Skoda Kodiaq. I'm not a SUV fan in general but they seem to offer a bit more room in the backseat. I currently have a Toyota Corolla Touring Sports Hybrid but it's just too cramped in the backseat. X-Trail intrigued me due to the hybrid system and the most EV feel (at least this is what every review tells you) but I'll have to drive it myself to see if that would fit us. Also, I drove the Superb with adaptive dampeners (not the air suspension) and I was really expecting more from it, the ride to be much more smooth than it was, especially for a newish car. There is almost no difference between the Comfort and Sport setting which is really sad. I guess you really have to go for Air suspension to have the benefit of a comfortable ride.

    • @thegeekdeveloper
      @thegeekdeveloper Год назад +3

      @@vjekan I have tested BMW iX3 with adaptive dampeners and I also tested a Volvo XC60 with air suspension (both on another league compared to the X-Trail), but I agree that air suspension is something else. The adaptive dampeners on the iX3 were good, but you would only notice any difference between the Sport and Comfort modes. The air suspension on the Volvo really felt like riding a cloud.
      The X-Trail is good for that EV responsiveness, you floor it, and the car just goes, no delays in Standard and Sport modes. The ECO mode throttles the response quite a bit.
      The back seats on the X-Trail are amazing. Soooooooo much room. Don't go for the 7-seater unless you really need it, and you will get so much second row room and a huge boot as well. I'm 1.85m tall and in the back seat I could stretch my legs a bit. It is the most spacious SUV I have tested so far, and I've tested quite a lot.
      I mean, I'm not 100% sold on the X-Trail solely because of the fuel consumption, the rest of the package is great for the price. But like anything else, if you start looking at 60K or 70K cars you will get much better cars as well, but for that 50K-ish bracket, I think it will be hard to find a better SUV.

    • @vjekan
      @vjekan Год назад +3

      @@thegeekdeveloper That's my view exactly. For the 50k price, you just can't find a similar car. I was looking at the Rav4 but it is just not as spacious as the X-Trail in my view. And if you want a bigger Toyota, the Highlander would be the next step but they go for 75k+ which is considerably more than the 50k of the X-Trail. Going to the German competition, they are also more expensive in this segment which really breaks the bank. For French competition, I'm not a fan of and really don't even consider them. Kia and Hyundai are also not at the top of my list and would prefer something else and this is where the X-Trail came in. I also looking at the used market for a 1 year old cars with 20-30k km but generally they are just a bit less expensive than a new X-Trail and that think that is a no brainer.
      Do you maybe know if the tow hitch comes as standard on the car, or can it be fitted as an option?
      Since you have experience with cars, where would you place the interior quality of the X-Trail? I'm not expecting it to be on Mercedes level but on all the videos it really does look great quality and details. Especially the brown/tan leather on the Tekna+ equipment
