  • Nissan X-Trail is a compact crossover in production since the early 2000s. It is one of three successors to the Terrano. The first two generations had a boxy shape, and Terrano’s off road genes. The third generation resembled a blown up Qashqai. In the US the X-Trail was offered only in the first generation. Then it was replaced by the Rogue. The second generation Rogue looks like the third X-Trail, and so on. This is the fourth gen X-Trail or the third gen Rogue.
    This Nissan X-Trail has an interesting hybrid drivetrain called e-Power, which is combined with e-4ORCE electric AWD system. How does it work, and will it cope off road? Watch this review to find out.

    You can set the car to remember E-Pedal status ;) Concerning fuel consumption - we are currently on a road trip of well over 1500km. The majority of it is in the alps, with climbs from 900m to 1500m above sea level and more on a daily basis. My 4x4 X-Trail Diesel was averaging ca. 10L/100km in the same scenario. The X-Trail e-4orce does it in under 8 liters per 100km, while having (subjectively) twice the power and souverinity and half the noise. In the lowlands on rural roads, we were averaging around 6 liters. So day to day fuel consumption actually is pretty awesome for a for a car that feels like it has a 3.5L V6 under the hood. Plus the exhaust gases are about as clean as it gets with an ICE car. All in all, its an awesome ride! 👍 [It was at 7.6 in the end. During the 850Km Autobahn ride back it only took 6.6 Liters]

      I drive this car mostly to school about 1 hour mostly highway im often on 7.1 to 7.5. for off road its certainly capable but the car comes as standard with economy tires they dont really work but moment keeps everything rolling easily you slide a bit here and there when its wet off road but not anything dangerous or concerning. Overal its very easy to drive only downside i can think of is the size it is and feels like an enormous vehicle so keep that in mind

    Thanks for the review Marek. I've seen a lot of other car reviewers struggle with the fuel consumption on the Nissan hybrid system as well, but the results you got in cold weather are crazy! I was really hoping for better economy from this drivetrain as it seems like an interesting concept. The interior looks like a big step forward though, good to see that Nissan is making improvements.

    I have just received my X-Trail E-power e4orce. 525 Nm of torque, 7.0 s to 100 kmh, really joful to drive and only 6.5l (Eco mode 4.8l) in city with dynamic driving ... Steers well, nothing rattles like in VAG cars (VW, Audi, even Bentley and Porsche), suspension handles well. Very dynamic car and economical at the same time! I love B mode (braking while generating func-tion, but I don’t use e-pedal, which brakes for me in addition to B mode). It is also very quiet. Love at first sight (and my job gives me opportunity to drive almost everything).

      @lunarpulse 13 дней назад +1

      I've found the Eco mode really poor on my Xtrail (e4orce SVE) and the fuel consumption no better than standard mode or B mode? I do a lot of short 5k school runs twice a day and at least 2 80-100km trips a week, weekends can be anything from 40/50km to 200km. Best range I've gotten is 700km on a tank with an estimate range of 40km left. I was getting 1000km + on my diesel xtrail.

    Great video. I'm considering both the X-Trail and the Sorento - I like the look of the X-Trail but compared to the Sorento it's rather thirsty. A long lead-time on the Sorento, is making me think more seriously about the X-Trail, despite the relatively poor economy.

    • @MarekDrivesENG
      @MarekDrivesENG  Год назад +7

      I'd have to test them side by side in the same weather conditions, but I get the impression X-Trail could be better in the city, while the Sorento would do better on the motorway (at moderate speeds of course). And the X-Trail is surprisingly capable off road. I'd never take the Sorento up there. Meanwhile Nissan insisted I try it off road, and it performed brilliantly.

    The high fuel consumption comes as no surprise to anyone vaguely familiar with the second law of thermodynamics. It probably is just another marketing bs to somehow smuggle an "e" into the car's name. Greenwashing all over.

    I personally would prefer the real Japanese hybrids, Toyota and Honda, that being said would evade Mazda as well. After Toyota and Honda only ones that are proven to be making usable hybrids are Germans with few premium brands and imo that's it for now. Nissan is still lacking and good luck using brakes as a replacement for differencial Nissan...

  • @MrFlazz99
    @MrFlazz99 Год назад +2

    There is one major flaw with this 'E-power / E-4orce' system. The engine is used purely to charge up the traction battery that feeds energy to the electric motors and that is fundamentally less efficient than just having the same engine sending tractive power directly to the wheels via a gearbox. The engine is less powerful than the electric motors are rated and the traction battery is very small, so if you want to use a lot of power, the traction battery will deplete very quickly even while the engine is running flat out.
    It may be clever, but maybe there's a reason why other manufacturers haven't already adopted such a system - it's pointless. Just get a conventional powertrain, save weight, save fuel and save money.

  • @ET-cj8jo

    Why do you call it a hybrid ? It seems not so. So it seems that the e-4orce is all about power, not economy. But the battery is so tiny I wonder how long it can keep up high power and torque before it runs out of oomph. Not long I suggest. And charging from the small engine seems to be thermodynamically insufficient/inefficient. The alternative petrol version is apparently slightly more fuel efficient but only comes in 2wd. Oops. If the X-trail is an SUV then why does it come in 2wd-only versions clearly for nothing off road, not even a muddy track? Is it then just a high roof station wagon ? So maybe test again to really push the limits of power and torque, and maybe see how the 2wd does in snow etc.

    • @MarekDrivesENG
      @MarekDrivesENG  6 месяцев назад

      Chances are you'd run out of road, before you deplete the battery below some limp mode level. Maybe in a track situation...

    offroad with electric car are dangerous too because you can stuck easilly in the middle of nowhere and range on offroad are several times lower then on normal roads because of spinning wheels so around 50-80km and you can recharge electric SUV only in bear ass somewhere while with normal ICE you could bring 10-20.30 liters of gasoline with you
