I always use dual 1/0 inputs when testing if possible. Test tones and the Amp Dyno are hard on the amps and having the most current available is important
@@wal Yes they sure do push the amps and really like how you use the dual inputs but I was more referring to the other side of the input terminal inside the amp itself.
I think you asked the most important question. In about 10 years will be able to run amplifiers like this for mid range. When you look at the bass amplifier Orion makes a 3000 W that draws 1200 A. Which it puts out crazy power. The problem is need a nuclear power plant to run it
@@bamafan-in-OZ - In the old days, speakers were a lot more efficient. You didn't need to have 500W just to listen to a phone call over your Bluetooth...
I said this before on the Orion 2500 on another channel. I have issues with amps with rating that are too high or too low. Rate your amps correctly. You setup an electrical system to power a 4k watt amp and you buy this amp. Your battery drops to 10 volts clips the shit out of the subs and poof, pop a sub. They need to rate their amps correctly, it's not hard
It’s not hard to measure your Voltage drop @ peak draw. If you are running this Amp plus Amps for your Mids + Highs you are going to have 6+ runs of 1/0, extra Battery, HO Alt, etc anyway.
It’s ALWAYS better to get more than you expect. You can always de-tune an amp by lowering the gain. You should plan for more electrical than you need as well…this way you won’t have to worry with voltage issues
@@wal You shouldn’t be clipping because of Power anyway, correct? You only clip if the Source is being clipped, you would be clipping if you turned down the volume, or you ran down your batteries on Aux/engine off if that was the case? I think I remember this being asked in the Forums all the time.
The comments about "high voltage" are funny. If you're shelling out $1500 for this amp, I'm pretty sure most that run at this power level or above, will be using lithium as big D is here. Lead acid is lazy, sluggish, bad cold weather performance, heavy, corrodes your vehicle, terminals/wires, and does not hold voltage under load well at all. Not to mention, recharging efficiency with lithuim is near 100%. You get all the power back you put in, where as the lead acid(sealed or flooded, doesn't matter) you get maybe 50ish percent(best case scenario) of what went in(due to in efficiency both going in AND out) pending actual quality of construction, plate purity, and condition/age. Lead acid is old tech, lto and similar technology is the future. Bottom line, for you guys complaining, and still running LAZY lead acid with power like this on tap, y'all need to get with the times. If you can build your own, lithuim is actually cheaper than lead acid, if you know how to shop. I'd imagine those complaining look at limitless prices and think lithium is unaffordable. It sure is... I built a 96ah bank for less than $500. Out the door, with terminals, cable, buss bars, hardware, balancer and all. Anyway, sweet test man, I was very curious about how this one was going to do. Spendy, but a solid performer!
I currently have a decent setup and thinking of going with a Salt4k. My setup now is eight 6.5” Sundowns in a Vented custom box tuned to 35hz in a Sundown sfb 2000d, but I do have a sfb 5000d ready to go in, my question is should I just sell those and invest in the Salt 4K. My question is why dont they just call it what it is and that a 3500 watt amp at 14.4 and 2 ohms. I dont get all these companies under rating their stuff by half. Didnt everyone rag on Orion for doing this same thing with that 5000 watt amp.
I'm with you. Underrating means nothing. Correctly rating justifies the price. 10-20% over/under. They should say 6k amp. 1500w @4 ohms. 3k @2 ohms. 6k@ 1 ohm. There, fixed it for them.

Hey Big D, do you remember where you first heard "Tiffany style rcas"? I'd never heard them called that before you but for the last few years, that's how I refer to them now too
Big problem with car audio is the 12v system. It requires so many amps to achieve few kw that it quickly goes out of hand. 1kw is the maximum limit and anything above would require all new electrical system with more alternators and Lifepo4 or lto batteries.
Unless you are competing you don’t really need anything past perhaps another battery near the Amps. I mean I used to bump around Town with my deck Sub setting @ -10 (it goes from -10 to +10). Even that would pull air out of your lungs if you got too happy with the Vol knob.

The problem is need a nuclear power plant to run it
@@joecool7165 yes the systems these days are insane compared to what we thought was extreme 25 - 30 years ago
@@bamafan-in-OZ - In the old days, speakers were a lot more efficient. You didn't need to have 500W just to listen to a phone call over your Bluetooth...
Just a bit beastly. Love it!!
Yeah man, she strong!
Now you can get a jp43 for half the price that will do the same power, AND it has those double power and ground inputs you said you wanted😊
The reason that they supply a VOLTAGE METER on the bass knob is so that you can ensure that your battery doesn't drop to 10 Volts. It's not hard.
@Pamfman It’s definitely hard on your Alternator, etc, but an actual clipped Signal isn’t correct I don’t think.
After the orion kick their butts in the 3k shootout SD upped their game. And prices tho 😳
Nice amp, solid. But that price tag... I'm a fan of their subs, though.
That’s a bad boy right there!
These are nice amps Big D!
Brings to mind the Orion HCCA 3K...
Can you test the deaf bonce aab-2900.1 and others of that line theres no videos out there
JC!! That things a beast!!
hey Big D, have you ever wired 2 big amps like this together and dyno it??
I currently have a decent setup and thinking of going with a Salt4k. My setup now is eight 6.5” Sundowns in a Vented custom box tuned to 35hz in a Sundown sfb 2000d, but I do have a sfb 5000d ready to go in, my question is should I just sell those and invest in the Salt 4K. I love the clean look and bass knob part. I do have a Voltage gauge now but to have all in one I like.
How does the JP33 or JP43 compare to the Salt 4K?
Looks like Sundown underrated there too line amps , just like the biggest boys... Expensive and exceptional
I really wanna see a toro R6 on here now.. they are rated at .5ohm and Milo John is a dealer and asked to ship you one to test I think you should take him up on the offer lol
What cheap and affordable subwoofer do you recommend? Looking for a 10” subwoofer for a single cab ford ranger
I want to see that massive 6k sub with this amp
The story with that sub is Massive gave incorrect box specs so the sub doesn’t have enough port
My salt 3 started randomly popping. Even if i smacked ot with my hands would make it make my subs pop. Upgraded to salt 4. This korean quality better shine thru with this 1
Nice, but I still love old school amps better.
Classic cars and classic amps rule!
Thank you so much for doing all these dyne runs. Your content is invaluable for consumers. Have you ever had the chance to get a SALT 1700.5 on your bench? Curious if the 5 channel is underrated on the sub channel.
I believe it’s very similar to this : Most Powerful 5 Channel Amp? Cosmos Audio EP-2000.5 Amp Dyno Test and Review [4K]

@@housepumpinpc3983 Exactly. Because without watching an amp Dyno test, people are likely going to choose something else. They're shooting themselves in the foot

All of the salt amps korean???
I love my Salt4k’s on my ZV5’s

Would love to see some low voltage testing!
I’m hoping if you shell out for an amp like this you won’t be skimping on the electrical?
@@wal It would be kinda cool, to see 12v testing. Is that not what salt means.? 15plus, seems a high starting point also. Run it at 12v and see, hence the SALT design. Just me.
@@wal it would be cool to see a low voltage test. Perty pwease
@@96kylar he explained in the video. "low voltage" in salt, just means its ready for a standard charging system (14v), plug and play.. when you start talking about thousands of watts it's easier to find amps that can run off 16v charging systems, which isn't what this is designed for it'd actually probly go into protect if you did run on a high voltage, wanting 12v is just too low lmao it won't do those same numbers, might still do rated power or close to it but...... why?
@@96kylar if you’re at some 12volts Then you don’t need a amp hooked up. You need to be driving to
Auto-Zone to get your battery & Alt checked out and fixed. Lol. Cause you should be 13.5 min at least 13. Testing a amp at 12volts. Wouldn’t work out. Just cause harm has it would immediately draw under 12.
Love the Salt amps, hate their prices.
😬👍
This amp could run my entire house.
👌😬👍
Have you tested amps strapped ? I would like to see if they really do what they say.
Yes, they do 1 ohm x 2 power. It’s not magic
I’ve seen a salt 8 wired at .17 on subs clamp 17k. Without protecting. It did eventually blow up. Lol. Replaced it with a crescendo 6k and it never protects or has a single problem. The salt amps are very pricey, but as you said you get what you pay for. Salt amps will run on speakers all day wired at .33.
salt can wired down to .01 ☑️
salt 8 clamped .01ohm push over 20k.
maybe salt 12 over 30k
@@SUTH_33 but for how long, I e been hearing a lot of people blowing and burning up their salt amps from running them well under 1 ohm and that's with beefed up electrical. That crescendo 6k are made to run at half ohm with no issues. I rarely hear about those crescendo amps burning up when used correctly.
Nice, I also have a bc6k and love it. Perfect amount of power for my Fi neo 4.7 single 15.
@@SUTH_33 I know you’re joking but they really will run .33 quite well if you keep them cool. They heat up quick wired under .67. And I have seen a salt 12 clamp 24.5k wired at .25. It blew up though after a few months. Sundowns vehicle they call project SPL. 4 salt 12’s wired at .25. They clamped 49,000 out of 2 amps strapped at 1/2. Unfortunately the video that they showed it on smoke came rolling out of one of the amps. Lol
I'd be really interested to know what kind of impact these tests have on your electric bill.
Nothing it’s all ran on DC voltage. Not connected to his house. Only thing is the lights in the shop and the amp dyno are AC voltage
The lithium cells were not cheap, but they provide the reserve power required for these tests
@@petergozinya7290 Yes but those lithium battery cells need to be charged up, that Charing usually takes place from an AC charger, unless D had a solar array on his roof.
@@stiggyness1976 - The cost is almost irrelevant. He tests for what, ten minutes absolute max. He's doing 6,000W at 80% efficiency... let's say 8,000W for 10 minutes, but let's make it 15 minutes. Let's do the math...
8000W x 0.25 hours = 2kWh at 20c per kWh = 40 cents.
The batteries would have almost 100% charge / discharge efficiency. For other equipment, lets add another 10c and round it at 50c per test.

It's GOOD but we all got to factor in the price.
got a bit salty after they were smacked around by orion in the old tests so they had this built
Great video! It would be awesome if you could do a dunk review on the soundqubed q1 6000
Kids on here fussing about price have never bought a Fosgate Power 1000 in 1990 and it shows. Lol
Amps cost way more in the 90s...because they were hand made, by Americans, I wish I could still buy American made amps (I now buy German made) We only have a few manufacturers left (MMATS ,Linear Power, TRU)..and Big D doesn't ever test them....only Asian crap and some Brazil...I will take American or European made any day.
@@raymo6795 I used to feel the same way but I'm too old to give a crap these days. I like any amp that makes power. I've paid my dues with the old school stuff, could have bought a house for what I've spent over the years. Just give me cheap power now, I have plenty of old school on the shelves.
@@RedHammerBodyShop …Mmats are actually quite reasonably priced, are of first rate quality and they have a few lines that are still American made. ( Florida). I guess if you need 5000 watts, Asian or Brazilian is the way. But I am more into sound quality these days and would gladly pay more for a superior American or European product. I will never buy an Asian or Brazilian product as an American or European product is available. I have few hobbies, so I spare no expense in what I am interested in. Sound quality.

Hey Big D, do you remember where you first heard "Tiffany style rcas"? I'd never heard them called that before you but for the last few years, that's how I refer to them now too
Would this amp be to much for 4 Sundown U8's? I'm currently running them on a Salt-2 but wanting to upgrade to either the Salt-3 or Salt-4.
Yeah I like to stay around 1000-1200 on factory electrical.
