Pro tip: active practitioners often superglue the tsukamaki knots in place. Keeps it from fraying and moving around causing blisters.
Crap! Done properly, you pre-make a whole load of small paper squares folded in half diagonally to make small triangles called "hishigami" and place them under the wraps as you go down the tsuba. They're there to stop slippage and to protect the ito from what is often rough samegawa (rayskin) that partly surrounds the wooden portion of the tsuka. They also help the ito to lay flat at the points of crossover, which should always be lightly hammered flat.
Only amateurs that don't know how to make the folds tight use any sort of glue - or clamps, for that matter.
How many people are here cuz they’re actually making a sword?
Probably like 25%. I’m making a kwaiken. Stingray and all.
ya know for once actually me

Me lol I untied mine on accident
How'd you know
Trying to repair an umbrella from a creative way i found this. Cool
Ok but what about if you're wrapping something that doesn't have a hole at the end?
You drill a hole at the end
Bro the hole at the kashira may work
A nail or screw
@@TheBerzekerC just superglue it
You can add "end cap" pieces that offer the mounting placement
I watched a couple videos about wrapping katana handles, and i wondered why this guy did it so differently. Then i tried and, and I realized he made some adjustments because paracord is a lot different than traditional wrappings. It worked pretty well for me. The only thing I did differently was to flatten the paracord with an iron on medium-high heat so it acted more like leather or flat silk. anyways, great video!
Of all the videos on this… you definitely have made the best one! Thank you!
I'm not making swords but I was interested in how the handle is wrapped. Awesome looking spoon!
SAMURAI SPATULA!!!
Spongebobu
10:15 made me smile, love those little gags that keep things light and fun and entertaining
I'm making a copslay prop using a wooden sword, and like a lot of people mentioning in teh comments, it doesn't have the hole in the end. But, I'm making the piece with two holes that covers the end (forgot the name, I'll edit this when I find it), and I'm not sure how the wrapping works in that case :/
Thank you! This helped me a lot, and elastic works pretty well too.
We're glad it helped! 👏
This tutorial helped me alot today, thanks
Hi, I would like to use this technique to wrap a tennis racquet handle. However, there is no hole at the bottom of the handle. Is a hole necessary? Thank you 🙂
Any method of securing the end would work just fine. A small turk's head wrap might look cool on a racquet handle.
I have a question for you about the wrapping technique
Does it at all matter from witch side it's started from or is it a directional pattern
So right ? or left ?
Thank you in advance
what a nice looking spatula
Very nice Tsukamaki. but... Please remember that when wearing a Katana in your obi, or carrying it in your (Left hand when expecting to use it - Right hand to show your host that you have no aggressive intentions.) hand the inside of the curve faces down, the outside of the curve faces upward, especially when displaying them horizontally. This keeps the blade edge off the inside of the wooden Saya, (sheath). Classical Kenjutsu, either from a standing or sitting posture, always draw the katana with the edge facing upward.
Unless he's wielding a tachi... Then you wear it edge downwards. There is no way you can tell what that spatula is supposed to be :D
If someone is left handed and using a sword would that mean that they would be misunderstood about whether or not they have aggressive intentions?
@@benasay8279 Holding it that way should have the sheath pointing out in front of you (instead of behind) making drawing the sword next to impossible without flipping it over.
I wouldn't say always because if you're horseback riding you always wear it curved Edge down not up. Tenshin Ryu covers both pretty extensively.
Sewing pins! Idea just popped in my head. They might work better than a clamp
Tbh, if you're not gonna do the super accurate proper way and just do the kinda-kinda easy way like he's doing, you don't really need a clamp. You can just hold it in your hand. The clamp is just in the way. Maybe use it if you wanna take a break, but don't reclamp it for every wraparound.
is there a knot you can use if your knife doesnt have a whole at the end?
Try to just tape it
It's awesome bro great 👍
Good job. Thanks.
Thanks thats what i needed, plain and exact.
Are you in food wars or something?
My toy katana repairing moment
You need support for your spoon at either end but an open area underneath it in the middle. then you could place your clamp from underneath and it would not be in your way.
awesome reference for my 3d model
Great tutorial! Thank you! What did you use to wrap the katana that is pictured in this video? The green wrap. I like that it’s wider. Is that available on your website? I only see 650 coreless paracord.
Great question! If you look very closely, it's actually the technique and tightness of the weave that makes the 650 coreless look wider.
What is a have no hole at the bottom to secure the cord, I’m trying to do this to the handle my gun like a gun grip. Could u refer me to other knots?
It may seem easy but its hard you have to prevent it from getting loose
there it was necessary to put 2 loops smaller in diameter under the ribs. at the end, look at them. twist the 2 ends of the cord. and then tighten these pets under the winding. and pull out these loops of a smaller diameter.
Always wondered how that wrap was done. Thanks.
Side note: any updates on the hat? I imagine that it will take awhile to do so I wanna get started soon. Lol
Traditionally, there's more to it. Like each turn has a folded triangle of a paper in it to help keep the shape.
I reeeeeally feel like the clamps are making this harder than it should be.
This is the first tutorial that made more sense about the fold/knot, thank you :)
0:03, ah look at that way this man holds this sword, absolutely..........
Wrong.
Yes, you are very intelligent for pointing that out, congratulations, heres a medal

In what kind of stores i can buy this rope?
Hi, we put a link in the description.
@@ParacordPlanet i saw that link, i cant order anything, i meant to ask, in what type of real stores you think i could find this? Maybe tailor store or something, idk, i live in village for now :D
Paracord is sometimes available at craft stores or outdoor/camping gear stores. Good luck!
@@ParacordPlanet ok thanks ^^
Military surplus stores
Can I use gutted paracord?
Yep, that's the same thing.
@@ParacordPlanet oh. Thanks!
Mine burned in a house fire so all I have is all metal. Is there something b/w the metal and Paracord ?.
Did you strip the center strings from the paracord?
this requires a lot of patience
G'day mate I really love the look of this rap and I actually want to wrap the steering wheel of my car which is a Subaru this would look good but I think it's a bit too hard to do on the steering wheel can you suggest a rap that would look good on the steering wheel of my car and how much chords I'm going to need to do it thanks mate love your videos keep up the good work
Depending on the size of your steering wheel and the wrapping method you use, you will need 100-150ft/35-45m of paracord. Here is one tutorial we have on our website: www.paracordplanet.com/spiral-paracord-steering-wheel-wrap/ Just know that most steering wheel wraps will eventually come loose.
How do we tie the rope from the black part on yours? I have the same one just different colors but the rope became untied
hi, very nice idea to replace ito since i want to make handles to a folding knife and i need the cord to be like 5 or 6 milimeters wide, do you remove the 7 internal cords from that paracord? Thank you very much
world most deadliest spoon :P
thx for the tutorial
Dang 2 mins in and I'm already struggling
Hello,
Where can i buy the tools that you have been using in the video
Hi! The clamp is just a regular one we had sitting around, but here's a link to the forceps: www.paracordplanet.com/5-inch-stainless-steel-locking-forceps/.
I own a sword and the end cap came off and the rope started untangling so I’m trying to fix it 😢
Good luck to you!
@@ParacordPlanetcould you tell me what kind of Clip you use in this video is called? I’ve been searching for one to buy but can’t find a proper one

Fair play to you mate!! This would drive me around the f**king TWIST!! (Forgive the pun!! lol) … I’m renovating one of my old ST ST Katanas I have, just a show piece to look as good as my functional 2 I have, but want it to look good but used … So looking for a pre-made all black handle but tied with nubuck leather and rub my hands all over it to give it that ‘Now that’s the REAL THING’ sort of look so if anyone tries to nick them they’ll think my dirt cheap ST ST one is the one to take!! lol ..,No not really .. Just to make it look so … Did the scabbard by spraying hair spray over the primed surface then throwing salt flakes over it, let it dry then primed it again. Got some enamel back spray paint and sprayed it. I then got a few got a few tins of high gloss clear lacquer and just built up the layers to bury the salt crystal peaks … Took ages but it looks SWEET as you can see the depth .. .. Just want to find the handle I want and I’ll be laughing!!!!
One side of an X is definitely a technical term
What do you recommend if the thing we are wrapping doesn't have a hole at the end
I Personally reccomend tying a Knot Or to create a Thing to go at the end with a whole (Or tape it)
Gonna wrap my gear shifter thats why Im here 😂
Nice! 👍👍
Where did you get that flat paracord i cannot find anything like that
That would be coreless Paracord! There's some on our site: www.paracordplanet.com/paracord/650-coreless-paracord/. Let us know if that helps. 🪐
@@ParacordPlanet thanks this will help a lot i couldnt find it anywhere
While doing this my clamp decided it was a heat seeking missile aimed at my face
Are those small clamps avail at hobby or craft stores? or where?
They are available anywhere that sells tools

“Breath of the handle wrapper, First form, ‘Wrapping spoon handles’”
😂😂😂
Do you have a package ship to Saudi Arabia or no?
Always wondered. Now I know enough to be pretty damn certain I don't have to worry about having to do that wrap. At the end of the day it's just a wrap. No weave, braid, or hitch. Nah.
Now you have a tactical battle spoon 😂
wife: that's the 4th spoon this week.
😂😂😂
I was going to do my e-brake by hand but nevermind lol
Very hard sir
Thank you ,do you rewrap handles for Katana? And how much? I live in New York. I need to replace a few parts
💥💥💥WOW KNOTS💥💥💥
Awesome! But I don't have the finger dexterity to accomplish that knot. Love your videos educational!! Thnx..
You're holding the sword wrong. Both sheathed and unsheathed, it's even positioned wrong on the rack.

Yo quería una real pero sale muy costosa así no me quedo de otra que comprar una replica de bambu
¡El bambú también estaría bien!
Sorry but you are holding the katana wrong, the sharp side needs to point up and you grab from underneath
My guy you should have the sword blade up when drawing
刀の抜き方が違います、持ち方もね。The way the sword is drawn and held is different too.
That clamp almost looks like a samurai helmet
😆 I can totally see that now!
Uhm. You aren’t supposed to touch the blade. It will speed up the rusting process and damage the blade
Very interesting, thank you.
00:01 -> But please learn how to hold a katana (edge towards the sky, left hand down and right hand up, etc.). The basics are very important ;) Thx

Look at all the bushido practioners in the comment section over the years. Dude is showing off a paracord wrapping technique not a period accurate reenactment of sword form. Ffs you weebs need to cool your damn jets and actually understand the context of the video.
Sanji s sword
You know it helps a lot when your hands are in the way
Or maybe just don't try to do a traditional wrap out of plastic? If you're gonna use paracord, just do a straight double wrap?
The Samurai Spoon
I hate my internet I can’t seem this in 140 p
Geez, I may be dexterous, but I would have NO PATIENCE for this kind of finnicky work!
because this wrap doesnt work. It appears to work on something like a flat spoon as it was showed here but i feel there was a reason he didnt do it on something curved. Im just highly pissed at this video thou because i feel its bogus as hell
@@77wolf89 did you notice how the paracord was not actually used on the sword handle? I agree
Me
after 2 hours on trying this wrap out, i feel you are leaving a ton of information out. Thank you for the waste of time and thank you for the headache
It is recommended to follow a traditional wrap instructional to get the full details and the best wrap that will last years.
What problems did u find?
What kind of Paracord is that? It's flat.
It's coreless Paracord! 🪐
Please stop calling them forceps, they're curved hemostats
