    Pro tip: active practitioners often superglue the tsukamaki knots in place. Keeps it from fraying and moving around causing blisters.

    • @Li.Siyuan
      @Li.Siyuan 3 месяца назад +1

      Crap! Done properly, you pre-make a whole load of small paper squares folded in half diagonally to make small triangles called "hishigami" and place them under the wraps as you go down the tsuba. They're there to stop slippage and to protect the ito from what is often rough samegawa (rayskin) that partly surrounds the wooden portion of the tsuka. They also help the ito to lay flat at the points of crossover, which should always be lightly hammered flat.
      Only amateurs that don't know how to make the folds tight use any sort of glue - or clamps, for that matter.

    I watched a couple videos about wrapping katana handles, and i wondered why this guy did it so differently. Then i tried and, and I realized he made some adjustments because paracord is a lot different than traditional wrappings. It worked pretty well for me. The only thing I did differently was to flatten the paracord with an iron on medium-high heat so it acted more like leather or flat silk. anyways, great video!

    Very nice Tsukamaki. but... Please remember that when wearing a Katana in your obi, or carrying it in your (Left hand when expecting to use it - Right hand to show your host that you have no aggressive intentions.) hand the inside of the curve faces down, the outside of the curve faces upward, especially when displaying them horizontally. This keeps the blade edge off the inside of the wooden Saya, (sheath). Classical Kenjutsu, either from a standing or sitting posture, always draw the katana with the edge facing upward.

      Tbh, if you're not gonna do the super accurate proper way and just do the kinda-kinda easy way like he's doing, you don't really need a clamp. You can just hold it in your hand. The clamp is just in the way. Maybe use it if you wanna take a break, but don't reclamp it for every wraparound.

    Fair play to you mate!! This would drive me around the f**king TWIST!! (Forgive the pun!! lol) … I’m renovating one of my old ST ST Katanas I have, just a show piece to look as good as my functional 2 I have, but want it to look good but used … So looking for a pre-made all black handle but tied with nubuck leather and rub my hands all over it to give it that ‘Now that’s the REAL THING’ sort of look so if anyone tries to nick them they’ll think my dirt cheap ST ST one is the one to take!! lol ..,No not really .. Just to make it look so … Did the scabbard by spraying hair spray over the primed surface then throwing salt flakes over it, let it dry then primed it again. Got some enamel back spray paint and sprayed it. I then got a few got a few tins of high gloss clear lacquer and just built up the layers to bury the salt crystal peaks … Took ages but it looks SWEET as you can see the depth .. .. Just want to find the handle I want and I’ll be laughing!!!!

      My guy. Dude literally said it's gutted paracord. His company sells it pregutted. Not exactly how much clearer he needed to be. Hold the cord tight an flat. Perform 1 90 degree bend facing inwards the another facing outwards. Repeat on the otherside. Flip object over repeat process. You could literally mute the video and understand what he's doing....
