The delicious irony is due to apartheid the South African was mostly an entirely white team even after apartheid ended because they banned blacks in South Africa playing the sport. So the post apartheid government decided to put black quotas on the team to force them to pick black players. White people in South Africa complained about the quotas, but so did white people in other countries saying this wasn’t sport and should be merit based and predicted South Africa would become a weak team because they were being forced to play black players. But since the quotas were introduced, South Africa has won more world cups in the last 10 years than any time before the black quotas
