4:40 white people have been in South Africa for 400 years, they came in the 1600's, same years as black Americans have been in America, so they are South Africans just as you are Americans. They are in millions in South Africa.
The reality is that when whites came in this country, they were known as Europeans, they are still Europeans in Africa and they will forever be. Same thing happens with Africans in America or UK, they are still called Africans......although they arrived some 400 years ago in those countries.
not only white people, he is speaking about all, but I rate the white people only know the English and Afrikaans parts. We get taught the whole anthem in school so we can sing it (some better than others) but they never taught us what it means. After school I looked up my own anthem's translation on RUclips 😅
There where he starts dancing singing the anthem (after 'sechaba sa, South Africa...then they lose their minds!'), is basically making fun of (in a good way) White and Coloured people, because we don't know the parts in the African/Black languages, but that part 'Uit die blou van onse hemel...' (after sechaba sa, South Africa) is in Afrikaans, the language most Coloured people and the Afrikaner White people speak (you get the English Whites who don't know Afrikaans well either). Now they can also sing with, at least singing a part that they know. The names he mentioned, e.g. Frikkie, Cornelius, etc., are Afrikaans/Afrikaner (and some Coloured) names. Black people don't name their children that. I, for instance, (being Coloured), speak Afrikaans (mother-tongue), English (my home language with my children), and basic isiXhosa. I learned it at university during apartheid, but could never really learn to speak it, because Coloured and Black people didn't really mix/socialise with one another. It is only recently, since democracy, that I learned a little more, having taught Afrikaans and German in township (where basically only Black people live) schools at one stage. Love my country and its diversity. PS: Not all Black people know all the Black languages either. We have different tribes, and they don't all speak one another's languages either. 'Yes you' is actually 'Yesu', meaning 'Jesus'.
South African here. This is an old show of his and much of what he says is no longer relevant. We do get natural disasters now, and we all now know what our national anthem means. Trevor tbh is not really a true representative of South Africans. Yes we are proud of some of his achievements but he's also a sell out and likes to harp on our differences while living in another country, while back home we are more focused on our unity.
I just realized that I don't fully understand what our national anthem means. I only understand 4 out of the 11 languages in our national anthem Xhosa, Afrikaans, English and Zulu
No way you only understand 2 Nguni languages. Once you understand 1 nguni language, you should understand all 4. At least that's the case for most people. I'm not even Nguni
@Tariq0826 Nah I've never been able to understand sotho and I'm Xhosa so I've had a reason to learn the others cause the people who speak those languages understand Xhosa and they speak Xhosa when we're together
All the verses in English God [Lord] bless Africa May her glory be lifted high Hear our petitions God bless us, Your children God we ask You to protect our nation Protect us, protect our nation, our nation, South Africa Ringing out from our blue heavens, From our deep seas breaking round, Over everlasting mountains, Where the echoing crags resound Sounds the call to come together, And united we shall stand, Let us live and strive for freedom, In South Africa our land.
Fun fact white people are the minority of South African the changed changed in '95. All schools had to change the previous antem. I am 44yrs old and still don't know the African part only the afrikaans and English part
At least South Africans struggle with their anthem because they don’t know all the languages. In Switzerland we don’t know our anthem because we simply don’t care 😂 It’s a boring religious psalm that barely has something to do with the Swiss culture of 21th century. Plus, everybody should sing in their mother language. I guarantee you that your ears will bleed if you hear a crowd singing in French, Italian, German and Romansh at the same time 😂
Trevor Noah is not the best choice to learn about South Africa when it comes to politics or social issues. As a S African , I can tell you opinion is very much split on him over here
He is biased as he always paints Afrikaners as being somewhat stupid and always, racist. I am neither of those. People who fear God also value their fellow human being because God says Love Your neighbour as you love yourself.

There is no wilder scene than a rugby game in South Africa where a stadium full of white people is singing an anthem in native African languages lol

What skit? you can't call a special "skit".
What he said about natural disasters hasn't aged well 😅😅. They starting to pop up now in the last 2years

React to the Ronaldo of rugby: Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu
99% is an exaggeration. He means none blacks/African don’t know what the anthem means.
This is outdated, our parents dont really know the words but our younger generations are very patriotic with the anthem 😂
