I like your channel a lot. Straight to the point. No tossing bottles or talking about what you did yesterday or what you had for breakfast. All bourbon and easy to understand. Thanks bro.
MM46 is a favorite for me, and I much prefer the old bottle. I don’t think the new one does enough to set itself apart from the regular MM, I think a lot of people who don’t know what 46 is will breeze right over the new bottle because they think it’s the regular stuff
Great List! My top 5 go to available everyday different distillery list: 5) Coopers Craft Barrel Reserve 4) Chattanooga 111 3) 4 🌹 Single Barrel 2) Old Forester 1920 1) Wild 🦃 Rare Breed
Love your work and the list. Here's my Top 5 GoTo: 1) WT Rare Breed 2) OF 1920 3) KC 9 Single Barrel 4) Four Roses Single Barrel 5) Evan Williams Single Barrel
I prefer the old Makers 46 bottle. It may be just me, but the look was a lot better with the old. I picked up a bottle the other day and had to do a triple take because I wasn't certain I had the correct bottle.
Agreed, but I understand why they would want to differentiate the private selects and limited releases from the core range. I think this branding change makes perfect sense even though it looks like garbage.
@PhatTrumpet2 the new one does look like garbage. But I disagree with your statement about it making sense. It's a unique stave profile. It should be bottled and labeled like the other stave profiles. In my humble opinion...
top 5 for me 1- Jeffersons very small batch in tin. 2- pinhook purple wax.3- four roses small batch select. 4 rabbit hole derringer . 5 wellers antique 107 for now
I'm five for five on your top five bourbons for 2022! I'm a new Bourbon drinker since I moved to Kentucky a few years ago. In the last year of Bourbon shopping I have purchased all five of the Bourbons you highlighted on this video. I enjoy watching your Bourbon reviews channel.
Only bottle I think you are missing is Stellum. It's on the shelf of every store any time I go in. No hunting required, and I can get it for $42-45. To me, it's what RB and 1920 used to be, hitting that sweet spot of proof, price, and availability. I'd drop the M46 to make room for Stellum.
I can't argue with most of your selection. Love the Old Forrester 1920 and their BiB selection. Another that I love just as much as the Russell's Single barrel is the Knob Creek 12 year. Full rich flavor with a great long smooth finish. My top three would be the Chattanooga 111 (or Old Forrester 1920), Russell's Single Barrell, and the Knob Creek 12 year. Rich full flavor that defines what a good bourbon should be.
Russels Reserve single barrel has been a go to for me now, knob creek 9 year, Michter’s small batch, old forester 1910, and belle Meade Reserve would round out my list
Love the list. I'll expand mine a bit more into more than just bourbons. 1) WT Rare Breed 2) Knob Creek SiB picks 120-proof 3) Heaven Hill 7yr. Bib 4) Stranahan Blue Peak American Single Malt 5) Smooth Ambler Founders Cask Rye
Nice plot twist with the RRSB! If price were no concern I'd generally agree, but the $40-ish price tag on Rare Breed vs. the $60-ish on RRSB is tough to ignore.
For a while there, there were attempts to get WTD to be the generally accepted abbreviation for them (Wilderness Trail Distillery). But I don't think it caught on. Personally, I still use WTD to differentiate from Wild Turkey.
Sadly, I prefer the current 1910 over 1920. And I LOVED 1920. For the 46 bottle, the new one is pretty cool, but the old one was really slick. Totally agree on the Russell's and Four Roses.
Watched this one again. Wish I could find the 6 year Wilderness Trail around here. All of the other Wilderness Trail are always on the shelf, but not that one.
Yes, I know availability will vary as you just said, but if you’re able to pick up Russell’s SiB anytime you want, you’re literally the only one I know of. I’ve been able to pick it up once in the last 1.5 years and most people I know even in different states are the same
Got agree love makers 46 but preferred the old style bottle, also love the wilderness trail 6 year bib but haven’t tried any of the other wt offerings because of price.
Mine lately in no particular order: Makers 46 Woodford Reserve Wheat Old Forester 100 1792 Small Batch Redwood Empire Lost Monarch Knob Creek 12, Jack Daniels Barrel Proof and Sagamore Double Oaked Rye WOULD be on this list but they are no longer readily available near me.
This is my first Mash and Drum video. I subscribed instantly. I love that your tastes is very similar to mine. I like the original design of Maker's 46. I liked that it stood out from other Maker's products. Wilderness Trail is the only one on your list that I have never had. I will now! What are your thoughts on New Riff?
I bought a bottle of Four Roses Single Barrel based off of what people told me about it. Not sure if I got a bad bottle or what, but it smells like mushrooms, wet leaves and honeysuckle, it is a drain pour that I can't bring myself to pour. My top 5: Russell's Single Barrel Knob Creek 9 year New Riff(any of them) Evan Williams BiB Bardstown Fusion
Six months and nary a sighting of Russels Reserve SiB within 100 miles of my house. It's really disappointing as it's one of my favorites. I've got a 2020 store pick from 2020 warehouse E (had 5 bottles of it) that is still unopened that I'm keeping back for a special occasion since it was so fantastic. It's fantastic that it's getting the attention it is, but by the same token it's making it another of those "hard to get" bottles for us in the sticks. ☹ And I have to agree with the Four Roses SiB. It's really under-appreciated. I do like the small batch select a little better, but for a warm day you can't beat the SiB.
1. Frey Ranch (it’s everywhere here) 2. John J Bowman Single Barrel 3. Sagamore Double Oak 4. Four Roses Small Batch Select 5. 1920 Tough to make a list of just five. But those are the ones I’ve easily replaced more than once.
I applaud you for listing bottles that are AVAILABLE. I get tired of hearing about bottles that I've never seen on shelves anywhere. I'm going to stop watching videos when they start naming bottles that I'll never see, I'll just close the window and go on to some other channel.
I can respect that list. I have a $40 cutoff for anything I am actually going to drink with any regularly, so you have a few that I would consider luxury. That said, both MM 46 and RRSB are fantastic products. I need to give 4R a try.
Tough to pick 5, but I like the idea of if there's nothing remaining but these 5, are you happy? 5-WT101, 4. Woodinville 90, 3-Makers Mark 46, 2-Col EH Taylor BiB, 1- Woodford Reserve Double Oaked...
All in all, a very good list. I have MM46 Cask Strength in the “old” bottle. I don’t care what the bottle looks like; it’s the whiskey inside that matters. I have tried all the Wilderness Trail expressions, and they are all excellent. I personally prefer the Wilderness Trail Rye. I also love the Four Roses Single Batch for being rye-forward, and I thank you Jason C for drawing my attention to it. I need to try the Old Forester 1910, 1920, and Rye. The Russell Reserve you talked about here doesn’t seem to be readily available here in the ATL area. Thanks again for posting this.
I'm pretty new in my whiskey collection journey and am happy to have landed where you did with Russell Reserve. So far it's by far my favorite in my small collection. Thanks for the great review.
Even with knowing how much you love Russell's, I was still surprised it was your #1. Wilderness trail was the only other surprise. I tried them a while back and wasn't impressed, but you said they're upping their game so it sounds time for a revisit.
Can’t readily find RR single barrel except at the local bar. That and 1920 are amazing. I’ll just have to be more diligent looking for RR SB… so worth it.
I have 4/5 of these and love them. The one I don't have is wilderness trail (I have their rye, which is amazing). From last year, I have all but the Remus and love those too. OF1920 is my favorite sipper atm lol.
In no order I tend to grab the Knob Creek 9 or 12 which ever I find, woodford double oaked for something sweet, something Makers Mark, George Remus, and something wild turkey Russell's, 101, or rare breed. I tend to bounce around a lot as I feel my pallet is always changing and I like to compare vs just sitting back and drinking the same thing all night. I don't have a huge collection but it takes a while to get through them when you drink that way.
Really like the lineup since there's so many bourbons out there now. Like the descriptions and details of each spirit and more importantly straight forward. Awesome job, got my list and ready to not waste my money on what I most likely wouldn't prefer. Follow up - followed your advice and went after these really good bourbons, no more chasing Unicorns for me! OK so here's two for you, Evan Williams Vintage and Cooper's Craft! Awesome and also a great price point.
Old MM46 bottle/label is way better and makes more sense since it, like the Private Selects, technically has a stave profile. Really can't disagree with the picks here, though I'm more partial to the Wilderness Trail wheated bourbon.
One thing I’m curious to see is if the new label design on MM46 will influence production on the MM46CS or if they’ll slap a new label on that bottle as well. I haven’t seen any cask strength 46 in a long time, but that might just be the worrywart in me talking.
Great list! Totally agree on all of these. I do prefer the old MM46 design, but from their standpoint, it makes sense. 46, FAE1&2, Private Select, those all shared the same bottle so I can understand the change. Maybe a different label color would help though, because I could see someone just grabbing this off the shelf thinking its classic makers.
I *liked* that the old label and glass matched the look of the Private Select and Special Editions. It had a unique stave profile (like the others) and therefore deserved to be in *that* glass.
Two of my top favorites on this list. The Four Roses Single Barrel and the Maker's Mark 46. I do not like the new bottle on the 46. It looks just like the normal bottle of Marker's Mark. I liked how the 46 was much different looking bottle to set it apart. Nice list. My top five are: 5) Larceny 4) Rabbit Hole 3) Buffalo Trace 2) Four Roses Single Barrel 1) Maker's Mark 46. I will have to try the Russell's, never had it as of now.
What bottles narrowly missed out for you? Given you are picking one per distillery, these would be my contenders: Bulleit - Bulleit Single Barrel Jim Beam - Knob Creek Single Barrel or Old Grand-Dad 114 Heaven Hill - Elijah Craig Small Batch Jack Daniel's - Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Barrel Proof (You did include Maker's 46 so I feel it's appropriate to include a bourbon by definition)
My top 5 lately are: Wilderness Trail Bottled-in-Bond High Rye Old Forester 100 Proof Russell's Reserve Single Barrel 1792 Small Batch Jack Daniels Single Barrel Barrel Proof
5. Maker's Mark 46: I love this one. Great price, good sipper. This one is a constant for me. Don't really like the new label design though. 4. Wilderness Trail: Bought a bottle a year or so and thought it was fine. Nothing special or memorable, but I recently got another one and I'm looking forward to seeing if my first impression was right or it's worth the revisit. At $70 it's a bit pricey, but let's see if it deserves the good words I've heard and read about it. 3. Four Roses Single Barrell: Like this one, but I lean toward the Small Batch Select if given a choice. 2. Old Forester 1920: This is a Top Five bottle. If one is going dry, I always will have another one teed up to take its place. One of the great ones. 1. Russell Reserve Single Barrell: I prefer the Rare Breed, but this one is a summer sipper on the front porch. A hardcore hitter. Great list, Jason. I'd swap out the Wilderness Trace for Elijah Craig, but that's a personal choice.
I would probably switch out the regular 46 for the CS 46 just because it is easy to find in my area. If smoke wagon wasn't a 4 hour drive (even though I always have a bottle or 2 around) for me it would be on my list over wilderness trail. Then lastly I would throw in 4 roses small batch select over the 4 roses single barrel. All and All I would be ok with your list just the way it is but these are the changes I would personally make
Great list even tho I haven’t tried the WT yet. Have RR SiB store pick and it got me hooked. But recently tried the RR 10 year and for $32 it’s a steal. Rare Breed has disappeared out here in North Texas so it’s my new go to.
I was lucky to score one of the last Russell Reserve single barrel where I live. Totally agree with the call regarding it. Also, agree with the 46 call. Great deal for a nice pour. These are my top 5 not in order: Knob Creek single Barrell Russells 10 yr Makers 46 New Riff Bottle in Bond John J Bowman Single barrel
Nice choice of your five for the year my personal five small batch select Four Roses Elijah Craig 131.4 proof private Barrel and my three maker marks cast strength Private Selection 3rd Edition and cast 46
Pretty cool! I have all 5 of those bottles. But my Wilderness Trail isnt the 6 year silver label. My number six honorable mention would be Belle Meade special reserve
Same 1 and 2, but really have to put Elijah Craig small batch as my 3rd, 4 is same as u (4roses), and 5 is my mixer Evan Williams BiB. Had a bit of problem w availability for some in Jan-March but didn't run out (always keep a backup, LOL). Love ur vids, Cheers!
I have always noticed but have never said your B roll editing, timing and camera focus skills are impressive.
Great List!
My top 5 go to available everyday different distillery list:
5) Coopers Craft Barrel Reserve
4) Chattanooga 111
3) 4 🌹 Single Barrel
2) Old Forester 1920
1) Wild 🦃 Rare Breed
I have all 5 of those currently. Good list
Coopers craft has really become one of my favorite daily sippers!!
Big Fan of the Chattanooga 111. Jason C. turned me on to it and I haven't turned it off!
It is 8 a.m. here as I watch this. I feel drunk just because I started watching your hands as you talk. Wow, I am dizzy!
Love your work and the list. Here's my Top 5 GoTo: 1) WT Rare Breed 2) OF 1920 3) KC 9 Single Barrel 4) Four Roses Single Barrel 5) Evan Williams Single Barrel
EW SiB not available anywhere except Kentucky. Best take it off any list now.
How dare you i cant get
Enough of these videos ayyy
Knob Creek 120 will forever be the benchmark for readily available sippers. Store pick or not.
Totally agree. Old Grandad 114 is a sleeper, btw.
Once again I realize why I like your reviews, I have everyone of these and they're on my never run out of list.
Jason great selections
I’m liking the new makers 46 bottle and label. Looks more traditional
Makers 46 and Four Roses Single Barrel are definitely in my rotation. I would add Knob Creek 9 Year, Evan Williams Single Barrel and Woodford Reserve.
I prefer the old Makers 46 bottle. It may be just me, but the look was a lot better with the old. I picked up a bottle the other day and had to do a triple take because I wasn't certain I had the correct bottle.
I absolutely agree!! The new bottle is just a cost-cutting move by Makers Mark IMO.
I like the old Maker’s 46 bottle!
top 5 for me 1- Jeffersons very small batch in tin.
Thanks Ron!

Russels Reserve single barrel has been a go to for me now, knob creek 9 year, Michter’s small batch, old forester 1910, and belle Meade Reserve would round out my list
Love the list. I'll expand mine a bit more into more than just bourbons.
1) WT Rare Breed
2) Knob Creek SiB picks 120-proof
3) Heaven Hill 7yr. Bib
4) Stranahan Blue Peak American Single Malt
5) Smooth Ambler Founders Cask Rye
1. Balcones Brimstone
2. OF 1920
3. Tahwahkaro Bourbon
4. Weller SR
5. WT 101
Nice plot twist with the RRSB! If price were no concern I'd generally agree, but the $40-ish price tag on Rare Breed vs. the $60-ish on RRSB is tough to ignore.
WT is an abbreviation for greatness: wilderness trail and wild turkey
For a while there, there were attempts to get WTD to be the generally accepted abbreviation for them (Wilderness Trail Distillery). But I don't think it caught on. Personally, I still use WTD to differentiate from Wild Turkey.
@@trackvol Iike this! Will start using it. Thanks 🥃🤘
Man... what a great video! From the awesome list of good bourbons, to the beautiful cinematography and editing! Cheers Jason and keep rocking 🥃😎
I have a bottle of OBSK 4 Roses that I'm nursing. Was my first store pick and absolutely love it. It's a great pair with a light cigar.
My list as of now:
1) WT Rare Breed
2) Four Roses Small Batch Select
3) Makers 46
4) Woodford Reserve DO
5) Barrell specifically batch31
Awesome list! I’m still finding my personal taste in bourbon and your show is a great guide, thanks!
Good solid list. My top 5 would have to include Woodford Double Oaked.
Sadly, I prefer the current 1910 over 1920. And I LOVED 1920. For the 46 bottle, the new one is pretty cool, but the old one was really slick. Totally agree on the Russell's and Four Roses.
I'm going to pick up 1920 today . I haven't been able to walk away from 1910 🤣 delicious
Wilderness Trail..man I gotta try and track that one down now. Total pro on your presentation Jason. Cheers
Watched this one again. Wish I could find the 6 year Wilderness Trail around here. All of the other Wilderness Trail are always on the shelf, but not that one.
I like the aged-paper, rustic look of the new Maker's label. It would look lovely in my kitchen display.
This is great. My 5 1) Laphroaig 10, 2) red breast 12 cask strength, 3) OGD 115, 4) WT Rare Breed, 5) Makers 46 cask strength
Mine lately in no particular order:
Makers 46
Woodford Reserve Wheat
Old Forester 100
1792 Small Batch
Redwood Empire Lost Monarch
Knob Creek 12, Jack Daniels Barrel Proof and Sagamore Double Oaked Rye WOULD be on this list but they are no longer readily available near me.
Agree on that knob 12. It would be on this list of it was more available
This was a really good Russell's Reserve single barrel review, don't know why you brought up those other bottles tho. 😉
I'm a fan although I think the single barrels can be very inconsistent. Thanks for the sub.
I bought a bottle of Four Roses Single Barrel based off of what people told me about it. Not sure if I got a bad bottle or what, but it smells like mushrooms, wet leaves and honeysuckle, it is a drain pour that I can't bring myself to pour.
My top 5:
Russell's Single Barrel
Knob Creek 9 year
New Riff(any of them)
Evan Williams BiB
Bardstown Fusion
Six months and nary a sighting of Russels Reserve SiB within 100 miles of my house. It's really disappointing as it's one of my favorites. I've got a 2020 store pick from 2020 warehouse E (had 5 bottles of it) that is still unopened that I'm keeping back for a special occasion since it was so fantastic. It's fantastic that it's getting the attention it is, but by the same token it's making it another of those "hard to get" bottles for us in the sticks. ☹
And I have to agree with the Four Roses SiB. It's really under-appreciated. I do like the small batch select a little better, but for a warm day you can't beat the SiB.
1. Frey Ranch (it’s everywhere here)
2. John J Bowman Single Barrel
3. Sagamore Double Oak
4. Four Roses Small Batch Select
5. 1920
Tough to make a list of just five. But those are the ones I’ve easily replaced more than once.
Great list Jason C, thank you. Cheers
I applaud you for listing bottles that are AVAILABLE. I get tired of hearing about bottles that I've never seen on shelves anywhere. I'm going to stop watching videos when they start naming bottles that I'll never see, I'll just close the window and go on to some other channel.
Great call on all!!!! Love the Four Roses!!!!!!!
Old Maker's 46 Bottle is much better. It was nicer looking, with the heavier base and shape. I think the change is a huge mistake on their part.
💯% agreed.
Ya, I felt the design had a more premium look to it, so I feel the same
I like the old makers 46 bottle but I get what they’re doing. As long as they keep it for picks, bc that’s a nice bottle design
Great! I can tell my wife that my Old Forester 1920 is medicinal.
Totaly agree with the Picks I have all except the Wilderness Trail which is a hard find here in Hawaii.
I can’t argue with any of these choices. All so good.
I'm pretty new in my whiskey collection journey and am happy to have landed where you did with Russell Reserve. So far it's by far my favorite in my small collection. Thanks for the great review.
Agreed. I’ve been collecting for awhile and it’s hard to beat RR SiB, especially a really good store pick.
Couldn’t agree more. I’ve had store picks of RR that blew me away and for $60!
I keep seeing that Wilderness Trail and wondering if I should give it a try. I think I'll grab some soon :) Thanks for the review!
Walked into a local Rite Aide and they had MM46 for 32.00 Old and new bottles. I liked and bought the old style, much nicer! Great video again!
Four Roses Sb was my gateway into my bourbon hobby!!! Great videos, keep up the great work! Cheers
I’m a kinda new Bourbon enthusiast in the Cbus area. Just starting to build my collection. Love all the content.
Russell’s Reserve is a no-brainer. With it, I’m all set. Great value for a great bourbon
Couldn't be Rare Breed around here because it's getting hard to find. Then again, so are RR single barrels. RR10 is everywhere, and also is good.
Even with knowing how much you love Russell's, I was still surprised it was your #1. Wilderness trail was the only other surprise. I tried them a while back and wasn't impressed, but you said they're upping their game so it sounds time for a revisit.
Russell’s reserve is definitely on my next up buy list. OF 1920 is one of my current favorites.
Agreed. 1920 is so good!
I don't have a huge collection but it takes a while to get through them when you drink that way.
love me some Russell's Reserve Single Barrel! Since moving to SC and not able to find ANY buffalo trace products, this has kept me real happy.
Love 4 of the 5 never had the wilderness trail honestly never seen it before
Such and enjoyable vid this time. And of course a great line up. Keep up the great work, Jason!
The new MM46 label is downright awful.
Yeah I can’t believe Maker’s supposedly took 3 whole years to make the new bottle… look exactly like standard Maker’s. Absolute hair-brained decision.
Where are you finding the wilderness trail 6 year silver label. There seems to be none in Virginia
The new intro looks and sounds great Jason, glad you went with that one!
Old Grand Dad Bonded!! Worth a try!
Your B-roll game is really strong. Great video work - oh, and great list!
#5 Elijah Craig SB
#4 Eagle Rare
#3 Rowans Creek
#2 Rabbit Hole Dareringer
#1 EH Taylor SB
What bottles narrowly missed out for you? Given you are picking one per distillery, these would be my contenders:
Bulleit - Bulleit Single Barrel
Jim Beam - Knob Creek Single Barrel or Old Grand-Dad 114
Heaven Hill - Elijah Craig Small Batch
Jack Daniel's - Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Barrel Proof (You did include Maker's 46 so I feel it's appropriate to include a bourbon by definition)
Wilderness trail is some tasty stuff, has great balance of fruit sweetness to oak and spice .
Thanks for making this video. I really enjoyed watching it.
My top 5 lately are:
Wilderness Trail Bottled-in-Bond High Rye
Old Forester 100 Proof
Russell's Reserve Single Barrel
1792 Small Batch
Jack Daniels Single Barrel Barrel Proof
All and All I would be ok with your list just the way it is but these are the changes I would personally make
LOVED the Beverly hills cop music!
I like the new Makers 46 bottle. We saw it at the distillery over the weekend.
Love seeing Wilderness Trail on the list! Been enjoying all their offerings for a couple years now! Their story is cool too
Really good list. Few can agree on every pick, but overall, I can't argue.
Great list even tho I haven’t tried the WT yet. Have RR SiB store pick and it got me hooked. But recently tried the RR 10 year and for $32 it’s a steal. Rare Breed has disappeared out here in North Texas so it’s my new go to.
Russell's Reserve Single Barrel is very hard to find in Illinois. Even the Wilderness Trail - 6 years BIB (Silver Label) is also hard to find.
I was lucky to score one of the last Russell Reserve single barrel where I live. Totally agree with the call regarding it. Also, agree with the 46 call. Great deal for a nice pour. These are my top 5 not in order:
Knob Creek single Barrell
Russells 10 yr
Makers 46
New Riff Bottle in Bond
John J Bowman Single barrel
Bowman is a special whiskey, indeed.
Great list love them all mine are
5. Buffalo trace
4. 1792 full proof
3. WT rare breed
2. Knob creek 12
1. Wilderness trail black label
I'm not sure I've even seen Buffalo Trace on shelves in my area (Columbus).
Nice choice of your five for the year my personal five small batch select Four Roses Elijah Craig 131.4 proof private Barrel and my three maker marks cast strength Private Selection 3rd Edition and cast 46
Spot on with my tastes. Had a store pick that beat out some pricey stuff.
Love the Russell's Red Label. A go to for me.
Great vid, Jason. List looks a whole lot like the conversation we had in the store. 100% on board.
Haven't seen wilderness trail in my area . A big fan of the rest .
Great list. I got onto the Wilderness Trail a few years ago when you first reviewed it. I only drink their silver label 6 yr now.
Dang bro! I grabbed and poured my Rare Breed thinking it would be on this years list again to watch this video with. Nice top 5!!!
Chattanooga cask 111
Wild Turkey rare breed
Knob creek 120
Early times bottled in bond
Old forester 1920
Bonus: Coopers craft
I’ve just recently dove into bourbon and one of my first good bottles I got was 4 roses. Still my favorite I’ve been able to try
Four Roses Single Barrel is so fricking good 😄🥃🌹👍🏻glad it made your list I've noticed ones in store don't have the leather neck tag
