I haven’t read any of the books but Soldier Sailor & Brotherless Night will be on my list - and whatever the winner is. I cannot wrap my head around reading so much lit fic in one go - great accomplishment!!

Definitely recommend both of these! Well all 6 of my shortlist of course haha

In Defence of the Act is currently my #1 read of the year. Such a singular reading experience! I'm delighted it was longlisted otherwise I might never have heard of it.
I suspect Enter Ghost will win the fiction prize. I'd love to see Thunderclap take the win for non-fiction (such a beautiful book!), but I think Code Dependent has a good chance of winning because it's so topical.
Thanks for this video. It was great to hear your thoughts!

I'm so happy to hear IDOTA is your #1! I agree, it felt like a wild pick from such a small printing press too, but like you so happy I got to discover it!
Great to hear about Thunderclap, the more I hear about it, the better it sounds! Code Dependent sounds a bit too technical, but like you said very topical!

I haven't read any of them so I can't judge but I love watching you and several others guess!

My pick for winner for the fiction prize is The Wren The Wren. Admittedly, I have only read four of the six ( I haven't yet read Brotherless Night or River East River West) but The Wren The Wren definitely felt the strongest novel to me and I loved the study on relationship. For non fiction, like you I am making a blind guess, as I haven't read any of the books, but I'm going for How To Say Babylon as that is the one I find most intreaguing and would definitely like to read it at some point.

I could see it winning! I think objectively it is a very good book, but it was definitely not for me. I'd be very happy for How to Say Babylon winning the NF prize as I've heard such great things about it!

I loved In Defence of the Act and totally agree with how it stays with you. But my pick for winning will be Enter Ghost, although it might be too political for the prize.

You're reminding me that I've been meaning to get back to Enter Ghost, I don't think I read it in the right state of mind!

I just really need the winner to not be Dolly or River East. Every other choice can be justified. 😂 For the non-fiction I've read 4/6 and they were all really good, but I think Doppelganger will win.

haha yeah agreed that I hope it's not those 2! So glad to hear you've read so many and they were all good! It looked like a good list, but gosh NF doesn't read very quickly haha

@@hasteyebooks Funny you should say that. I did How to Say Babylon on audio, and it was so slow! I almost never turn the speed up, and if I do it's only to x1.2 but I had to stick Babylon on x1.75 😅 You can tell she's primarily a poet, she read the memoir slow and rhythmically like it was poetry.

@@TheLeniverse haha aww that sounds like one for reading print then! For I'll see when I can get my hands on it!
