Hello there, my name is Gabriel and I play the character of young Noah in Xenoblade 3. It's AWESOME to see my character, to actually hear my voice and, to see the finished product! It's been an absolute privilege to be involved in this and it's VERY exciting to see everything come together in this way.
I really like Noah as a jrpg protagonist. He's soft-spoken, gentle, kind, sweet. No constant screaming or yelling, no weird masculinity issues. He's just chill, and I appreciate it.
@@jameskozy7254 honestly I love shulk because of ✨ nostalgia ✨ but actually yeah I think he's the best written MC so far. His backstory goes bonkers and deals with mature topics that resonate with me as an adult.
Crazy to think that Nintendo could just move up the release of what seems to be a consensus 9/10 type of game. Especially in a time of delay after delay. Looking forward to this game.
To be fair…. Nintendo is developing games for the equivalent of a ps3 and xbox 360. It takes a lot longer to produce modern games especially to make them bug free. And Nintendo just delayed Zelda which has been in development for at least 5 years. That being said I’m buying Xeno and Zelda day 1, haha
@@MatthewHop Switch should at least be more powerful than 360 and PS3 , I thought the power was a little closer to base PS4/X1. Nintendo need to quit being so cheap and conservative and Invest In more comparable specs for Switch 2. We know It's coming soon , 2023 should be the last full year of Switch. I'd bet they release Switch 2 late 2023 or Q1 2024 , expect BOTW2 to be a cross-gen launch title.
Well, their games are far easier to make at least technically and financially. I mean, who needs motion capture or photorealistic graphics for Mario games?
As someone that has XC2 as one of my favorite games of all time, I don’t blame anyone for not playing that game past the 5-10 hours mark. The start of that game is rough, but the ending and the prequel DLC made it one of my favorite games ever alongside the Trails franchise. The combat is also my favorite combat system in any JRPG, but it took about 30 hours to become that. XC1 is a game that I think more people were easily able to get into, so if you were to ever try the other games, I would recommend giving XC1 an honest shot before trying XC2 again. As for XC3, I’ve put 10 hours into it in less than 15 hours since the game released, and it’s been everything I have ever asked for. Im glad that it appears to be appealing to a larger audience, and I’m glad that you’re enjoying it so far!
@sk it tested the hell out of me. I could hear my eye rolls and had to get up sometimes like, what the hell am I watching. I’m literally cringing. But still one of my favorite games I’ve played.
I love the Xenoblade Chronicles games, the original is one of the Wii’s best games and its definitive edition is one of my favourite Switch games. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 takes awhile to get into especially because of the games terrible tutorials, but you really get drawn into the story once it gets going. Storywise 3 definitely looks like it’s closer to the more serious story the original had.
Played 2 for like 60 hrs and lost interest with the gotcha mechanics :( recently bought zc definitive edition and for some reason the combat is a serious snooze fest , does it get better I really loved what story I played of it about 5 hours.
@@tazmanceltic You unlock more arts the higher level you are in XC1. The combat gets more intense at high levels when you're managing positionals, buffs, debuffs, and healing. You really don't have to do the gotcha blades in XC2. The rare blades you get from the main story are more than enough to beat the game. The story really gets bananas a few hours past where you are.
@@James.Hill. ah ok man, I love jrps like addicted to them always have been. This battle system just seems to going over my head I guess I was getting my ass kicked quite a bit lol
I think you should give 1 and 2 another shot. From what I've seen gameplay wise this one doesn't stray too far from the first 2. It's just more streamlined. The Xenoblade series has one of my favorite jrpg battle systems ever.
@@dragocrafterr8286 true 1 had a pretty shonen story but the drastic art design change with 2 and the main character being a child who's a reincarnation of some legendary hero it kind of felt way too forced in my opinion and to me at least 1 had somewhat of a unique story granted it had some shonen tropes like the power friendship etc lol. 2 had that short young underdog gets a super unique power (pyra/mythra) underdog saves the world and enemies underestimate him because the underdog gets a transformation (pneuma) and the fight becomes one sided
@@yuh9157 i seriously don't get why you all hate on shounen stuff or hate on xenoblade 2, or the designs and tropes, its all dumb arguments to hate something for. not everything has to be overly dark or overly realistic to be enjoyable. if its not for you its not for you but that doesn't make its designs, story, tropes, or characters flaws just because you see it as such. your hate for it is subjective. and I get tired of you all looking down on the game and its fans just because its not a game that fits your likes or standards. not everything has to meet your standards or preferences to be good.
Excited for this but I can't play it for a few months You can't quit Xenoblade Chronicles 2 at the 3 hour mark. The battle system hasn't even opened up. You are still basically auto battling at that point.
@@barcster2003 Persona has a much better way of opening the game up to you imo, and combat was always snappy and had a point. Whereas the first encounter of note in XC2 is killing a bunch of random bugs on your ship, and being interrupted by dozens of tutorial pop-ups. Idk, i'm not trying to rag on XC2 too much but it seems like its audience is more for jrpg officionados, and Persona 5 was much more interested in bringing in new players to the series.
Yeah but you cant ask people to play for hours for them to understand the combat that the game is terrible at explaining and not making them feel like they are wasting their time when they can be playing a game that does explain things much better.
1 still has some of that typical JRPG dub cheese altho not as bad as 2. With that said I think most people with experience in JRPGs kinda expect and accept some of that whrn playing dubbed lol
@@Tintelinus i mean its not gonna match something like a naughty dog or rockstar game, but i genuinely think that its in the upper echelon of JRPG dubs shulk's VA has some genuinely impressive line deliveries (never heard someone so convincingly yell "i'll kill you" before) and the cast is also surprisingly stacked. the voice of melia (jenna coleman) literally went on to become a celebrity and although not nearly as famous, so did dunban (rufus jones) to a lesser extent. both of them have since played lead roles in several television shows. also another thing worth mentioning is that ff14 post ARR, straight up yoinked half of the voice talent from xenoblade 1. the VA's of shulk, fiora, gadolt, egil, mumkhar, alvis, lorithia, vangarre all make appearances and none of them have minor roles.
Xenoblade 2 is a weird case I can understand why you don't like it. I hated it for the first like 20 hours, but after that it managed to become one of my favorite games of all time once I understood the mechanics. The story managed to make me cry and I just started another playthrough immediately after beating it
the premise is interesting but its unbelievable that they will believe a guy they dont know going to a place they dont know is real. And yes i already played the game
@@linkwolf2196 but the transition is poorly executed your not going to unknown place because some stranger said it even if he save your life rather its more in the norm to go into hiding and as the story progress its hard to swallow that people would just believe and allow them to destroy the "thing" that giving them life considering the there first conclusion is they would die along withit if it is destroy.
The Xeno series is very special to me so im so happy to hear your approval and excitement about it. I hope to hear further thoughts as you get further, and as I, myself, get a chance to dive into the world.
xenoblade 2 has a slow start but once you hit chp 5 you will love the game..and it's expansion "torna the golden city" is one of the best DLCs out on the switch imo..
Xc3 is one of my most anticipated, must buy games of the year. Just seeing all the great reviews makes me so excited to play the game. PS: XC2 was my 1st nintendo switch purchase so this series has a special place in my heart.
@@EnragedLuffy YES! I bought the definitive edition at launch. It was a no brainer at that point because I knew the 1st game was really good, and I had a blast playing XC2. I tried playing XC1 on the 3DS before but wasn't able to finish it. The switch version is so much better. I hope you can finish it. 👍
the premise is interesting but its unbelievable that they will believe a guy they dont know going to a place they dont know is real. And yes i already played the game
I became a huge fan of Xenoblade when I first play the xeno 1 on my wii, it was something that I never played before and when my switch came home a few years ago also chose xeno 2 over other launch games and was a wonderful experience, so sad that Xeno X stay as the only exclusive on wii U, that one was super good too
@@saidcardielsegura6852 Never played Xeno X as I don't have a wii. However if Monolith decides to port the game on switch (Pro), I would definitely buy that game as well.
It’s depending who you ask story is considered better to some but I prefer 2s myself the characters gell better though the adventure imo. Xeno 1 has issues where some of them, they may as well not be there. Most judge 2 to quickly you’ll be surprised how dark 2 can get. Also 2 gameplay is amazing once you learn it.
Excellent video and such a well done review. I'm 40 hours in - in two days - because I'm reckless and unsupervised. I now have to go to work and pretend I'm not running on caffeine and sheer will power.
I completely understand your adversity to some of the other xenoblade games, they are certainly not without flaws. I will say though that completing them and really engaging with them is unlike any jrpg out there, I don't know how to describe it, it just hits different. I think it's worth going back and giving them a shot if you have time on your hands.
There's nothing unique about xenoblade 2. Has a generic cast of characters and story. 1 for its time was unique yes and great. This game looks to be one of the best ones yet. 2 is worth skipping and playing the dlc.
@@HazXbox I liked 2 but it definitely had its moments where it was just super cringy and immature. I think there are moments where the characters really shine and in my opinion it's worth playing but definitely not first. One is definitely the best and Torna is what 2 should have been but that doesn't make 2 bad. It's just a lot weaker than it's siblings.
@@HazXbox Honestly I feel 2 gets too much hate just because of the character designs (mostly with Rex and Pyra), the fanservice (which I feel is whatever except for Dahlia) and the fact that the tutorials genuinely fail at their job. They seemed to have listened to the criticism because the character designers for 2 came back for 3.
@@HazXbox >2 has a generic cast and story Dude nearly every person I talk to about this series forgets Sharla and Riki exist. And the later half of 1 focuses so much on Shulk and Fiora that it feels like the rest of the cast is just there.
@@barcster2003 That's true, I don't blame people who disliked the game because they only played for like 5 hours. It definitely takes too long for the game to become truly interesting and engaging.
Have you ever actually played XC1? Almost all of your complaints about XC2 weren't present in 1. The combat was way simpler, the tone was more serious, the voice acting was great
Now I'll give u that the story and characters are better in Xenoblade 1 but I absolutely hate the combat in 1 I much prefer the combat in 2 it's so simple
Xenoblade Chronicles X needs to be brought to the Switch. It's still the greatest RPG I've ever played and I'm worried that it may be stuck on the Wii u forever. Price for that game is getting out of control.
@@Sir_Robin_of_Camelot Really? I fucking love that game. It's a real shame that the director said it'd take too long to port over, given how it's systems were restrained to the WiiU's interface, probably making it troublesome to port over to the Switch. If anything, I'd rather Monolith Soft just make a Xenoblade Chronicles X2; with everything they've learned throughout the series so Xenoblade Chronicles, having a sequel to X would be fantastic to see how much more they could do with that game premise: Exploration, Character Customization, Multiplayer, Squad Missions, etc.
Loved Xenoblade 1, hated Xenoblade 2 (opinions, I know). So I was looking for reviews from people that didn't enjoy Xenoblade 2 specifically, to see if it was closer to 1 or to 2. Seems it's kinda its own thing, and praised by people that both loved and hated Xenoblade 2. So yeah, sounds good, now I'm interested! Thanks for the review.
I bounced off Xenoblade Chronicles 5 different times. I hacked my Wii to play it, I bought a copy after Project Rainfall, AND I downloaded a ROM and played on my computer. Finally, I bought the Definitive Edition and finished it. It is now in my Top 10 JRPGs lol. I'm eager to play 2 (and then 3)
Just to warn you, the first few chapters of 2 kinda suck. Also watch chuggaconroys “everything I wish I knew about xenoblade 2” video before you start.
I got like 30 hours into it earlier this year and enjoyed none of it. But my nephew swears its the best game ever. WHAT AM I MISSING?! I want to like it but just….don’t. Every time the story picks up it slows right back down. But the worst thing is the combat. Its just so repetitive and it severely lacks depth from what I can tell. Am i just misunderstanding it? Use the directional attacks and try and interrupt when possible? I swear there’s something about this game that i just don’t understand because i see so much love for it. There are games that i love for the story, there are games i love for the gameplay, there are games i love for a mix of both or even for the art or music at times. Nothing about xbc1 did any of it for me. I play a wide variety or games (rpgs still being my favorite) and I’m no stranger to enjoying games with combat i dont particularly enjoy because i like other aspects. But xbc1 misses everthing from me. What made it click for you eventually? Maybe if you can pinpoint it or name some of the things you liked i can look at it through a different lens. I had that work in the past and grew to love games I bounced off of after hearing about what made it special from other people.
All of the RPG's I've loved throughout my life seem to have coalesced into Xenoblade 3. I got a switch on saturday(my first ever Nintendo console) for Shin Megami Tensei 5, and got Xenoblade chronicles 3 just because it was there.. and ended up shelving SMT5 after an hour to play this gem exclusively all weekend. Anyone who is on the fence about getting this, get off it and just buy it. Literally Justified the purchase of the console.
I'm glad Xenoblade finally clicked for you! It's rapidly become one of my top 3 RPG series' right alongside Final Fantasy and Mass Effect. THAT SAID: Once you finish this one I really think the previous games (especially 2) are due for and deserve a FFXII-style second look. Now that you've got a better grasp on the gameplay style I think you'll find the others much more approachable 😁 And having the knowledge of how the stories for all 3 games connect to each other is SO worth the experience!
Totally agree, I think so much of the stuff he says he likes about the combat is also in the other titles, they just don't do as good of a job explaining it. 😂 It really sounds like he'd "get it" more a second time around now that he understands the fundamentals of Xenoblade combat.
@@PrOtaku123 I kinda disagree. I understand the tutorials in 2 were pretty bad (I didn't have trouble getting the hang of it but I'm not everyone) but 2's combat was much deeper and more engaging when the system was fully unleashed. 1's combat was definitely more straight-forward and I can understand why some would prefer it, I just felt the horizontal bar for artes was really clunky and not executed as well as just having the artes assigned to specific face buttons
@@PrOtaku123 Eh nah, the game was just very bad at telling how the combat would be cool. Especially in challenge mode, everything just clicks when putting the time to learn. Xenoblade 2 element orb explosions are satisfying to put together
@@PrOtaku123 Hard disagree, it’s mainly that the game’s tutorials suck at actually explaining it. Once you figure it out, it’s the most interesting and engaging one out of all of them so far (excluding 3 since we don’t know all of the combat yet).
As a guy who absolutely hated 2 and was only okay with 1. I think I fall into the same category as you. I’m glad to hear 3 has a potential to change my mind. It’s one of those series that I’d really want to get into it, but just never reach that point. I’m gonna give it a try. My Switch has been collecting dust for too long after all.
So the first Xenoblade is my favorite RPGs of its decade, but I didn’t vibe with XC2 as much, but this honestly seems more like the first one and less of the second, so I’m pretty hype for it
@@cubekorr By the time that happened in XC2 I think it was too late in the game to me, especially since I wasn’t too sold on the characters in the first place. Now that I’m playing 3, it appears that the creator did a much better job of solidifying that tone and to me has a better main cast.
When Nintendo is ahead of schedule for a release date, you know they ain’t messin’ around. I haven’t seen XB or PS do this ever. The best in the business right here.
I really feel that they stepped up on the story writing and cutscene quality. Unlike XC2, i find myself looking forward to every story cutscenes almost rushing myself to progress. Heck i thought i was watching a good anime most of the time during story events.
People are so hard on the Switch for visuals. I’m sitting here thinking, it’s nearing the end of its lifecycle, and we are still complaining about it? I think people need to temper their expectations. The Switch is not PS5, PC or Xbox. But for what it is, the visuals are good. Hopefully we get the next generation soon that gives us a lot of updates but overall, the Switch has been one of the best consoles. Anyway, super excited for XC3 later today!
I do understand, however I don’t think the visuals detract that much from the overall story and gameplay. Visuals are way down the list (at least for me) on what makes a great game. I appreciate them when they are good but the Switch does a good job for what it is. I’m just saying we shouldn’t go in expecting a miracle on a system that cannot perform like others. Sure it’d be nice to play on the PS5 or PC but hey, glad we have XC3 at all.
I almost skipped out on this game because Xenoblade 2 underwhelmed me enough to almost make me skip out on Xenoblade 3. Mostly because I had high expectations for Xenoblade 2, after playing Xenoblade 1 and X. It's not a bad game, just a tad disappointing to what came before. But holy sparks. I'm really glad i gave Xenoblade 3 a chance. This game is great. The combat, the exploration, the customization (even if some were simplified), and just the amount of things to do. It's a pretty cool game that impressed in many things. The characters are great and likeable, even Noah which I didn't vibe with too much (still has a cool design imo).
I really think you should give XC1 DE and XC2 another chance, and definitely watch Chuggaconroy's "How To" videos for 2. It makes the game infinitely more accessible from the beginning since the in game tutorials are frankly terrible. I ended up loving 2's combat especially
Huge agree, XC2 is a game that had NO business being as good as it was. The voice acting was horrendous, the writing was hammy and the combat seemed questionable... but then you get into it and realise it's a spectacle start to finish.
@@OwlyOwlman I honestly ended up enjoying the voice work for what it was. It fit the rather hammy dialogue and was kind of endearing. Also it got progressively better throughout the game
@@Vin50000 The combat opens up exceptionally in 2, with the element chains, chain attacks, the sphere system, all of that stuff, not to mention switching to different blades and learning how to cancel auto attacks into arts and all of that good stuff
I am getting my steam deck this week. Which is pretty bad timing. I’m getting xenoblade but might save it til the steam deck honeymoon phase wears off lol
@@AsteroSloth I know I could but I have been waiting for the steam deck for over a year lol. And I have trails of cold steel 3 in progress on pc that I will probably just continue on deck
@@kinginthenaught yes lol but I’d rather just buy it and play it on the switch. I will emulate like ps2 and GameCube era games and older on it but I’m not really interested in switch emulation when I have a switch that already is portable.
Steam Deck has probably changed the handheld portable game forever and hopefully Influenced Nintendo. Valve finally got the hardware right and somewhat connected with the mainstream. I bet future Iterations of Steam Deck will become as big as new console launches from the big 3.
Have you played Xenoblade Chronicles X Matty? I feel like that would be more up your alley compared to XC1/2/3. It's setup more like a Western RPG. Huge focus on customization and exploration, and it's really deep. You create your own character. The main quest isn't really the main attraction if you don't want it to be. It isn't as cheesy and over the top anime fan servicey compared to the others if that bothers you (like it does for me).
Was already going to pick up the game as I love Xenoblade Chronicles/2/Torna but hearing someone that isn't a fan of Xenoblade enjoyed it just solidifies it. I do think you should give 1 and 2 another shot, however. The games aren't that wholly different
@@Princeofdarkness45682 Man I have argued that graphics and frame rates don't matter for years but even I have to say the constant attempt for the game to focus on itself hurts my eyes. I would love to see the devs of this amazing series not be held back by Nintendo's consistently dated tech. I really wish they would finally catch up because imagine the imagination of this development team using Unreal Engine 5? Tell me that wouldn't be enjoyable. lol
I liked x2 but couldn't bring myself to finish the first xenoblade. So far I'm 60 hours into xenoblade 3. I'm only on chapter 5 I'm extremely hooked doing all the side quests and improving affinities
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is able to get more people on board. While I love the series, I had a very rough start with it too. I was cursing at the screen, trying to understand why certain things were the way they were but I kept going and now it’s like “oh okay, I get why.” I think XBC3 will help people who couldn’t handle the jank of the previous entries.
You should give 2 another chance, and watch the combat video by Enel on how to perform combat properly. You will likely really enjoy it. XC2 is honestly extremely well-written and very emotional game with a fantastic story. I highly recommend it. Just get over the character designs - that's not a good enough reason to skip on another 9/10 game.
This was a great spoiler free review! I’m actually right now playing through FF12 TZA on my switch and just loving it to pieces, the combat, the strategy, the leveling up, side quests, characters and of course the phenomenal story!!! I’m about 75% done with it though according to reviewers, and was thinking “man, I want another rich and engaging game like FF12!” Your vid was one of the top recommended XC3 reviews so I thought what the heck. 😊 Dude it’s sooo reminiscent of FF12! The combat, the auto system w button presses(reminded me of quickenings) and the combo characters mechanic sure reminds me of when you summon Espers!! 😃 I tried XC1 and similarly liked the music, world, characters, story but like you said 10 hours into it just didn’t do much... I’ll prob visit it in the future again potentially but in the meantime it FF12 and then this. And I think this looks pretty awesome!! Thanks for the great review! It just added to what I was already Feelin’ from XC3! 👍💪😁
Based on what you said you’d really like the first one (definitive edition). It starts out and remains VERY serious with some comedic relief here and there. I haven’t played 2 yet. I’m thinking about skipping it and going from 1 to 3. I know 3 is amazing based on reviews. But I can’t for the life of me understand why the characters, who are fighting in a war, are dressed like Pokémon trainers.
@@Dinklr if you read my post I literally explained that I hadn’t played the game yet. After playing the game I still don’t like that they’re dressed like Pokémon trainers. Xenoblade 3 as released (without the story dlc- at the time of this post it is not out yet) is the worst of the trilogy and the wardrobe is only a fraction of why I think that way. The story of 3 feels very loosely connected to the previous two entries despite sharing a combined world/universe from the previous titles. There are two characters, one from each of the previous entries, and they feel like shells of their former selves. I’m glad you enjoyed it, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and to like what they enjoy and dislike what they don’t.
@@aviatinggamer9051 well u asked why and i simply told u that if u play the game the clothing makes sense. Also the other 2 xenoblade games have some fucking wierd ass clothing so i don't see how weird clothing is a complaint.
@@Dinklr you didn’t “simply tell” anything. You came off like an asshole and that was your intent. Weird ass clothing is expected in a fantasy story but the clothing in 3, that the main characters, looks like casual real world clothing. What do you mean by the food is like monster hunter food effects in monster hunter are permanent until you die but it looks like this food is like temporary bonuses like in KH3 Could you explain that?
Okay, you've convinced me. As someone who couldn't get through 1 and absolutely couldn't stand 2, I'm definitely getting this now if it's like anything you say, cause that sounds EXACTLY like my type of game.
The original xenoblade has a great story. The gameplay gets more fun when you get more party members/moves. You should get further in it and switch to japanese with subtitles if the english dub bothered you
I dont get how its blasphemy to dislike xenoblade 2. Its actually shocking how anyone could put themselves through that nightmare and call it a good game

@@DV-ou1yu unfortunately yeah and I've actually decided to just stop collecting and playing games all together. I haven't played a video game in months I just watch videos on them. I can't bring myself to actually sit down and play anything it feels like a waste of my time because all games just feel the same. Also a weapon at level 1 is the same as a weapon at level 100 it just has a different skin and numbers attached to it I've learned. Also honestly games stories and writing suck in comparison to TV and movies. Sure there's "good" games but if they were to be turned into a TV or movie they have to be rewritten because they're horrible at storytelling.
@@owlfoxdeergaming4481 I definitely get that point of view, but I think I'm at the age (34) where both games and tv bore me for extended periods making it feel like a waste of time if I play for more than 1 hr. Random question - Why are some new game reviews being posted to Retro Rebound? I don't mind either way just curious, is this the new channel for reviews?
i really think if you enjoy 3 enough to play it all the way through you should go back and give 1 and 2 another chance. 2 has just about one of the meatiest combat systems in any game ive played, which is it its fault with how it cant properly convey that through its tutorials
It's funny because you said that you didn't like Xenoblade 2 combat, but you are actually describing the same stuff in Xenoblade 3 and there you like it. I think the difference is the tutorial?
Probably. Xenoblade 2 doesn't describe it well. He also possibly played it longer. I know some people didn't give xenoblade 2 enough time to actually open up.
I felt the same with the 2nd game, I loved the 1st one thou. That being said when I heard about the 3rd one, I wasn’t too excited. Now haven’t seen some more about the 3rd game, Im really pumped about it 🤓
One of the best RPGs i've ever played seriously, i'm still in awe of it and on the Switch too, totally unexpected and i went into it hating everything. The combat system, the anime style, the voice acting etc... came out of it finding it my favorite RPG of all time next to maybe Chrono Trigger, funny how that works. Really the biggest unexpected masterpiece of this generation for me sad to hear the other ones aren't anything like it though, i hope they keep going along this line for future games, because IMO this is it, they nailed it
Really want to play this but I found the battle system in XBC2 to be a confusing, automatic mess. Had to put it down after about 20hrs. Everything else about that game had me hooked.
Shame to hear you dont like Xenoblade, the first games twists are some of the best in story telling! I totally get it though, there's no point if you dont enjoy the 60 hour process to get them but man, hopefully you'll have new found interest after this game. Because the gameplay of 1 is stil lthe best in the series, 2 and 3 in my opinion pulled back the openness of the combat from 1, and now that you had a reason to learn Xenoblade combat Im betting youll be more open to 1... 2 can stay in the dump imo but 1 for sure 😂

Awesome job! You should be proud
I did the voice acting for Link in breath of the wild
Good job little buddy I am proud of your progress as little Noah have a great day bye
I really like Noah as a jrpg protagonist. He's soft-spoken, gentle, kind, sweet. No constant screaming or yelling, no weird masculinity issues. He's just chill, and I appreciate it.
yeah i'll take him over Rex any day..
But is he better than shulk
@@jameskozy7254 honestly I love shulk because of ✨ nostalgia ✨ but actually yeah I think he's the best written MC so far. His backstory goes bonkers and deals with mature topics that resonate with me as an adult.
Although i *do* think masculinity, the good kind, should be encouraged more nowadays
@@dunnejos8423 You may be right. I think I need time to chew on it some more before I decide
That release date was probably very conservative as the team is known for not crunching. Still kinda wild they didn’t just wait anyways tbh.
I'd bet they release Switch 2 late 2023 or Q1 2024 ,

@@fawkkyutuu8851 the switch is about halfway between 360 and ps4 in power but with newer architecture it’s closer to a ps4 in performance
Bunny girl makes it worth it
Yeah I gave xb2 445 hours but can understand the difficulty of battle, overdone anime tropes and pacing issues. Still my personal top 5 switch games
@sk pure awesome content you mean
I wasn't a fan of the gotcha mechanic. I would have liked to be able to find all the blades instead.
2 also had a serious story though, it just had some parts with a lighter mood. This has been a constant thing in the series.
2's story was pretty serious but it has the same problem Kingdom Hearts 2. You have to get 15 - 20 hours into it before the story ramps up
Played 2 for like 60 hrs and lost interest with the gotcha mechanics :( recently bought zc definitive edition and for some reason the combat is a serious snooze fest , does it get better I really loved what story I played of it about 5 hours.

I think you should give 1 and 2 another shot. From what I've seen gameplay wise this one doesn't stray too far from the first 2. It's just more streamlined. The Xenoblade series has one of my favorite jrpg battle systems ever.
the fanservice and typical shonen story ruined 2 for me, I finished it but was underwhelmed especially after playing 1 and X
@@yuh9157 It’s sick that you love 1, and I do too, but xc1 is incredibly shounen lmao
2 is good _despite_ it’s awful combat and embarrassing character models.
Excited for this but I can't play it for a few months
You can't quit Xenoblade Chronicles 2 at the 3 hour mark. The battle system hasn't even opened up. You are still basically auto battling at that point.
Yeah I think people don't realize how long it takes to open up. Which is strange because a number of people gave persona 5 10 hours.

@@viknu6304 I like how having an attention span for anything more than 10 seconds is now considered being a "jrpg officionado".
Regarding the voice acting, xenoblade 1's dub is actually very solid. Unlike 2, they had an entire year to localize the game in english
1 still has some of that typical JRPG dub cheese altho not as bad as 2.
With that said I think most people with experience in JRPGs kinda expect and accept some of that whrn playing dubbed lol

shulk's VA has some genuinely impressive line deliveries (never heard someone so convincingly yell "i'll kill you" before) and the cast is also surprisingly stacked. the voice of melia (jenna coleman) literally went on to become a celebrity and although not nearly as famous, so did dunban (rufus jones) to a lesser extent. both of them have since played lead roles in several television shows.
also another thing worth mentioning is that ff14 post ARR, straight up yoinked half of the voice talent from xenoblade 1. the VA's of shulk, fiora, gadolt, egil, mumkhar, alvis, lorithia, vangarre all make appearances and none of them have minor roles.

I have to agree. They are definitely flawed but they have some sort of magic to them that you can't get elsewhere.
Crime and a shame. IMO it's the true highlight of the series.

And having the knowledge of how the stories for all 3 games connect to each other is SO worth the experience!
Totally agree, I think so much of the stuff he says he likes about the combat is also in the other titles, they just don't do as good of a job explaining it. 😂 It really sounds like he'd "get it" more a second time around now that he understands the fundamentals of Xenoblade combat.
Tbh the combat in Xeno 2 is the weakest even more so than xeno 1, they fixed it up in torna and then the third games looking amazing so keen

Ya but a game like this has so much potential and it’s held back by the switch. It goes down to 540p lol that’s bad. Still a great game though

It's setup more like a Western RPG. Huge focus on customization and exploration, and it's really deep. You create your own character. I have the exact same history with the previous entries and just like you I have absolutely loved this entry.
If you loved 3, you may love 1 the tone is the same, NO FANSERVICE or cringe jokes (Like XC2)
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is able to get more people on board. While I love the series, I had a very rough start with it too.
I’m about 75% done with it though according to reviewers, and was thinking “man, I want another rich and engaging game like FF12!”
Your vid was one of the top recommended XC3 reviews so I thought what the heck. 😊
Dude it’s sooo reminiscent of FF12! The combat, the auto system w button presses(reminded me of quickenings) and the combo characters mechanic sure reminds me of when you summon Espers!! 😃
I tried XC1 and similarly liked the music, world, characters, story but like you said 10 hours into it just didn’t do much... I’ll prob visit it in the future again potentially but in the meantime it FF12 and then this. And I think this looks pretty awesome!! Thanks for the great review! It just added to what I was already Feelin’ from XC3! 👍💪😁
wait so if i'm hearing this correctly you never tried the original and started with 2? why?
Based on what you said you’d really like the first one (definitive edition). It starts out and remains VERY serious with some comedic relief here and there.
I haven’t played 2 yet. I’m thinking about skipping it and going from 1 to 3.
I know 3 is amazing based on reviews. But I can’t for the life of me understand why the characters, who are fighting in a war, are dressed like Pokémon trainers.
If ur talking about the casual clothes that's literally explained in game
It doesn’t look like something a fantasy character would wear.
I’m not sure why you’re so hell bent on making everyone view this game the same way you do.
This game is Zelda breath of the wild and final fantasy’s baby. So great
Damnit even you have it early!!! Really looking forward to playing it this weekend! Glad you enjoyed it
xeno 2 combat is amazing when you get into it
Its hard to get into it when the pace is abysmal and the characters are all annoying
@@BadGrief yeah that’s understandable, I love xenoblade 2 but when nothing interesting happens until like chapter 3 and it doesn’t really pick up until like chapter 6 it’s kinda obnoxious
@@leahbeah1585 if a game only gets good 20 hours into it then that is a major flaw

What do you mean by the food is like monster hunter
food effects in monster hunter are permanent until you die but it looks like this food is like temporary bonuses like in KH3
Could you explain that?
I hope you do a bravely default review in the future
Okay, you've convinced me.
As someone who couldn't get through 1 and absolutely couldn't stand 2, I'm definitely getting this now if it's like anything you say, cause that sounds EXACTLY like my type of game.
How does every game do the impossible
Do you need to play 2nd to play this one? Nearly completed the first but cba to play the 2nd
If you love this game you should play Xenoblade 1, it’s much more similar in tone compared to Xenoblade 2 which I don’t like much
1:03 Matty is gay confirmed
The original xenoblade has a great story. The gameplay gets more fun when you get more party members/moves. You should get further in it and switch to japanese with subtitles if the english dub bothered you
Some find the dub charming
@@repeekyraidcero can't have a rainbow without reyn baby.
Reyn was a gem in the dub for xenoblade 1
@@repeekyraidcero the dub for xc2 was good imo
@@repeekyraidcero Indeed, the english dub was fantastic, in most regards.
Yea the first Xenoblade was a bit serious for some it's a classic.
If you dont like Xenoblade 2 (blasphemy) you need to atleast play Xenoblade 1 and the other Xeno series games
I dont get how its blasphemy to dislike xenoblade 2. Its actually shocking how anyone could put themselves through that nightmare and call it a good game
@@BadGrief its a joke. Okay you sound mad lol
@@obba40 how do I sound mad? And y'know jokes are supposed to be funny, right? Lmao
@@BadGrief Its actually shocking how anyone could put themselves through that nightmare and call it a good game
@@obba40 Yeah and? What i said doesn't convey that I'm mad, kiddo
by far the best review of this game Ive seen 🔥
I really wish I had time to play video games I just buy them physically to collect them. I have over 200 games on PlayStation and switch that I've never played, I wish there was just more time.
Great video Matty I'll definitely be adding this to my collection
😳😳😳 So just collecting at this point. Yea, being an adult sucks lol
I rather go play basketball or do something with my girl.
I find that I just pause the game and do other stuff in between. Life man. Lol
Random question - Why are some new game reviews being posted to Retro Rebound? I don't mind either way just curious, is this the new channel for reviews?
Matty, did you ever finish Xenoblade 3?
i really think if you enjoy 3 enough to play it all the way through you should go back and give 1 and 2 another chance. 2 has just about one of the meatiest combat systems in any game ive played, which is it its fault with how it cant properly convey that through its tutorials
You can tell he watched a video on xbc2 instead of playing it the combat systems ate similar in yet he said he couldn't get with xbc2 ?
It's funny because you said that you didn't like Xenoblade 2 combat, but you are actually describing the same stuff in Xenoblade 3 and there you like it. I think the difference is the tutorial?
Probably. Xenoblade 2 doesn't describe it well. He also possibly played it longer. I know some people didn't give xenoblade 2 enough time to actually open up.
Ok you’ve sold me on it, gonna buy this today.
Is that a Majin necklace? Dope
I felt the same with the 2nd game, I loved the 1st one thou. That being said when I heard about the 3rd one, I wasn’t too excited. Now haven’t seen some more about the 3rd game, Im really pumped about it 🤓
You have to play the first 2 in order to enjoy this one ?
great stuff man, xenoblade kinda not clicking with me either but after I got my hands on XC definitive edition it finally clicked.
Love the review man and the majin buu chain 😆 I need one of those
Shame to hear you dont like Xenoblade, the first games twists are some of the best in story telling!
This game legitimately changed my life
10/10
why is this on the retro rebound? is this a remake?
No. It's not even out till the 29th
I love how Weight of Life only plays twice in the entire game and yet everyone remembers it.
Might have to get this game it looks really good! Thanks matty!
