When you get your new WARN winch, you'll need to stretch the winch rope before using it. This goes for both steel and synthetic rope; truck or powersports winches. Learn how in this video.
Or just put it in neutral and set the parking brake lightly to get just the right amount of tension and avoid getting in and out of your truck 67 times. I always leave my engine running when winching to avoid a potential dead battery.
Wranglerstar (on RUclips) really needs your help on this. Apparently he used to work for Warne years ago, but he has just damaged a brand new synthetic line because he didn't do this process.
That guy is a Fraud an a absolute Jackass. No way he worked for Warn an does the stupid mistakes most rookies make. Ruins a new synthetic line because he didn’t do research, an that’s just sad cause that poor Synthetic rope did nothing to anyone 😂
You got good point there. After all, the guy's using a Jeep so would be kinda nice for us other Jeep owners that he'd provide instructions clear enough 😂 We dum-dum's! 😅
I think this guy confused a lot of people with this 500 step process. He was setting the parking brake first, so no problem with the transmission. You can park an automatic nose gently uphill or downhill without hurting the parking sprag but e-brake is always a good idea.
In the video he backed up with ALL of the winch line off the drum (zero wraps) so the only thing attaching the line to the winch was the little rope keeper bolt. You can see that he definitely 'loaded' the rope when he backed up (the rope sprung up) -> wouldn't this damage/rip off the keeper bolt? I thought you're supposed to take in 10 wraps (for synthetic rope) under hand tension first??...
There was several wraps around the drum on the last layer of rope. Wraps is how many times the rope is around the drum which the rope is holding by friction and not by the keeper bolt

Exit the vehicle and forget your keys inside as you lock and close the door.

That dude is a goof.

You forgot to tell us to open the door on the vehicle before exiting! Now how are people supposed to figure out how to get out of the dang vehicle?

Forgive the noob question, but isn’t it a bad idea to put forward tension on a vehicle in park?

I think I'd rather climb Mt. Everest in my underwear. Probably easier and take less time. Jeez; I'll figure it out myself.
Do you need to “tension” the rope after each use?
No. Just the first time.
how would i do this for a trailer winch tho

This seems really drawn out
I couldn't keep track of the steps. Geez. I think I have the idea of stretching the rope without getting in/out of my Kawasaki Mule 70 times.
It would be nice if the same video was shot using a ATV which is a large part of Warn's winch market.
Why wouldn't it be the same concept
Be still, stop bouncing around, otherwise a good video.
Jeez, didn’t realize this was a safety video. 🙄
Rather have cable.
RULE #1 Always place the hook with the opening facing down.... Only inexperience operators clip it facing up.. DUH!
You put the hook opening facing up!
