  • Sharing my solar setup that shows how I hook up my Jackery 500 to the Renogy Eclipse 50 watt panel by using a mc-4 to 8mm adapter cable, and an 8mm extension cord. This should also work is Goal Zero batteries. It should also work with any solar panel with a mc-4 connection.

Thank you for clarifying for me that you can use another brand panel to charge this. Looking at a 100w Jackery panel, they wanted nearly $400 & compared to others I can get like 300w worth of solar for that. I'll probably get at least 1 100w Renogy panel to pair with it. Appreciate all the links as well!

For those getting the extension cable, expect to lose some wattage the longer the cable is.

I was looking at a pecron e2000…. And looking at the renogy 550w x 2 =1100w .. looking at spending $800 for both panels… if I get the pecron solar panels 800w would be about $1100 and the 1200w from pecron would be $1600 more!!!! It’s insane how companies really stick it to you on the solar panels…. By the way to find comparable panels just make sure panels have the same working voltage and watts and check for maximum amperage

Wish I'd seen this a few months ago. I went through the same challenge finding the right connector, sent the first 2 back. Finally got renogy to recommend a polarity converter. Jackery support is lame. I just wish it charged faster. Should have got the Rockpals. Good video!

Aren’t all solar panels waterproof since they have to be outside? I just used my 100 Watt Renogy panel for the first time to charge my Rockdale power station (300. watt). We have a power outage right now and it worked great. Granted, my 300 W Rockdale won’t charge a lot of appliances, but I have a small appliance to heat water and sauté some meat, so I can still make coffee, cook a small meal, charge my phones, etc.

Wow... hitting around 50w is really good. Waiting on my jackery 500. Ordered a Paxcess 60w panel an hoping I get at least 40w. I'm skeptical about it though. If not I'm definitely going your route bro! How's it holding up, Tested it in rain yet, still getting around 50w?

  •  4 года назад +1

Hey - any reason you decided to use a 50W Panel instead of a 100W Panel with your Jackery 500? I am thinking of getting an 100W Panel

    • @TheHavnmonkey
      @TheHavnmonkey 4 года назад

Edit: I double checked and found out the 500w unit is limited to 100w of input charge, the smaller units are limited to 42w. So a larger panel would charge this unit faster.
I'm researching this option instead of a dedicated lithium battery / charger setup for my van... From what I can tell the Jackery generator boxes limit input charging to 40-50w. So a larger panel will still be limited by built in charging limit and should not have any added benefit... However, many panels are inefficient and do not reach their advertised wattage. So a cheaper 100w panel may put out 60-70w. The same goes for a cheaper 50w panel, it may only put out 30-40w. This Renogy 50w panel is one of the more expensive panels and is supposed to output it's fully advertised power under ideal conditions. There are other battery generators that do not limit charging input as low, but have other cons as well. I think Jackery will most likely roll out higher charging input with it's next generation of products.

Over paneling will help with days the sun is not great or you don't move your panel much.
I would rather have max charge most of the time rather than not

Hi I’ve had a similar ghosting experience with Jackery and solar questions they answered about making the adapter or getting an adapter for MC four to the 8 mm but then they don’t want to answer me. I wanted to know specifically if it’s safe for me to hook up 160 W panel or if there’s any reason why I couldn’t and from your information I’m gathering that it would be safe. that there’s a mechanism inside the Jackery that will keep it from overcharging is that correct?

I tried out charging my Jackery 500 with a No-Name Connector first ... not charging !!
Than I find out that your Renogy Panel is charging the Jackery 500 using that "SolarEnz" Connector ... I gave him a try .... seems not to work ... input of 0 Watt on display.
But displayed percent is climbing !! ... what is that !!!!!
Ok ... after complete discharge a wonder has happend !! .... Jackery 500 in charging by showing Watts in display as it should !!
I don't have a clue what happend or why it needed a fully discharge to work probably.

This is awesome. I especially love the cat jumping into the video - was that planned? Lol. Thank you for posting this. I just bought the Jackery 240 and it seems great, but like you, I have a solar panel that I want to connect to it that isn't from Jackery. I just got a Coleman solar panel kit from Costco www.costco.com/coleman-100w-solar-panel-with-8.5-amp-charge-controller.product.100389117.html and need to connect it to my Jackery.
