    I’m so lost. I’ve been researching all day trying to figure out if I can safely connect one 200w panel to my jackery1000 instead of buying the jackery brand panels I wanted to get the renogy or rich solar 200w panel. But have no clue if it’s compatible. Can someone who’s not electrically challenged like me help me a bit?

    You seem to know a lot about Solar and stuff can I run 600 W of solar six 100 W panels 75 feet with six gauge or eight gauge wire everything would be wired in parallel I understand I can get by much easier running that with a series hook up however my amperage would be greatly reduced

    EDIT: nevermind I figured it out LOL, it was so simple.
    arghh, I don't get it... how do you connect the wires to the solar panel itself? you didn't show that, and the 12v cigarette port.. you use that to plug the cabe that jackery gives you with your purchase?
    sorry I'm really not the brightest bulb in the box lol! thanks

    Nice video! I like the Jackery power stations but also found the price of their dedicated solar panel to be way too high. I got a 12v plug with alligator clips so that I can charge the Jackery directly from my battery that is being solar-charged. Also got a dual 12v plug that wires into the “load” outlet of my charge controller (Renogy Rover 20) and that works also. Your solution is a great idea tho for folks who don’t have or need all the other stuff..

  • @OccidentalonPurpose

    I just did this with a Jackery Explorer 1000. There was a catch, though. The Jackery would take the charge from the 100W Jackery branded solar panel I had but it wouldn't take the charge from the 200W Renogy panel on roof of camper, which was what I wanted. It was puzzling because despite the panel putting out voltage the Jackery wouldn't take it even though it would take it from the Jackery panel. Finally, for lack of options I put a multimeter on the 8mm plug on the Jackery-branded panel. Much to my surprise it showed a negative number when I had the black on the pin and red on the barrel of the 8mm connector, so, essentially, reverse polarity. I went back and flipped the cables from the Renogy to be black to red and red to black to achieve reverse polarity to that 8mm plug. And it worked. Don't know it it was intentional on Jackery's part, but the outcome was you'd assume the Jackery would only charge from Jackery branded panels unless you put a multimeter to it and realized they set it up the opposite of how you'd think it would be.

  • @DylanDurdle

    Do you need a overcharge charger circuit? I have two 100w panels that recommend installing an 8amp charging controller to prevent overcharging. Is this required if using to charge a jackery? My understanding is it’s necessary if hooking up a 12v battery.

    Been wondering about this because their panels, just like Bluetti and EF Ecoflow, are ludicrously priced. I can get 4 x 100 watt rigid panels for not much more then the price of 1 Jackery portable 100 watt SolarSaga.

    "We all love Jackery", but it's a guessing game of "Do I have to use their proprietary solar panels?".
    It looks like the answer is "yes", but you've got a work-around, it looks.
    Any chance you could add a diagram of what-goes-where, and what connector plugs into what socket?

    Hoping you can help. My daughter and son-in-law have a jackery 500 but no solar panel. I have an extra acopower 120 foldable panel. I am wondering if they can safely use it. For the Jackery 500 ..specs... "dc input 12-30V (100W max). The acopower dc output is "18 volts". The Imp - 5,97. So I am worried that the output might be more than 100 W on a perfect day. Would this harm the Jackery or just the jackery would not accept more than 100W. Definitely don't want Mother-in-law's solar panel to KILL their jackery!!! thank you for any help on this.

    No blame accusations here. I tried this ( obviously I must be to blame for my own action ) so I use my Dokio 400w solar panels, It blew a 5am fuse but I could smell burn coming from my Jackery 1000w. Now my Jackery wont charge anymore the battery is working still has 51 all socket work. just can not charge the Jackery. Why does it not have no anti- surge protector or a fuse built into the Jackery ? madness. Now I have a very heavy paper weight,....... GUTTED. Thanks for sharing as I said no blame to anybody but my self, oh tried rebooting and the rebooting worked but not the charging, Ray K. UK. YNWA. SOB SOB SNIFF

    Good morning, I don't know if you'll even see this question but maybe someone else will and be able to answer for me...
    I bought the jacquery package with solar panels, obviously should have watched this first but I'm late to the game. Can I use the jackery solar panels that I got with other solar generators? I'd like to buy another of another kind but not have to buy new panels every time. If there is a video on here that I could watch please let me know and I don't mean this to be a stupid question.
    Thank you for anyone who can answer this for me.

      actually there is an advantage to connecting a full 100 watt panel to the jackery, in cloudy or overcast situations with a flat mounted panel you might be lucky enough to get 42 watts from a 100 watt panel, so your unit will still recharge even on lousy days. and new 100 watt panels are so inexpensive now there is no reason to pay for a smaller one.

    Large Marine Vessel ET Tech here- Watts=Amps X Volts. The formula for Amp Hours is Amps X Hours. My Jackery 290 (20 Ah) takes about 5 hours to charge in full sun with a 60 Watt foldable solar panel. *****The quality of the solar cells factors into the efficiency of the input rate so if you go cheaper ya gotta go bigger.
    While backpacking and camping for 4-5 days (Boy Scouts) I need my CPAP to get a good nights rest so I try and reduce my resptronics output volume to conserve battery and minimize the size of gear to lug around. On cloudy days I’ve had to reduce my CPAP time to 4 hours but it’s better than nothing.
    I’m thinking about trying a 20v DeWalt drill battery inverter and lugging around 4-5 batteries with an even smaller solar panel but haven’t crunched the math yet.

    Hi Hobotech. I have a Jackery 300 and a Dokio 110w foldable solar panel I got from Amazon. I have not been able to charge my battery with this solar panel even when it says that it is compatible with Jackery. Do you know to make it work?

    You're videos are REALLY helpful to me as I navigate the (scary) world of solar power and both my lithium external battery and my agm batterie for my camper. I have a question I hope you can answer. I have an ECOFLOW Delta 1300 and an ECOFLOW 160W solar panel - those work great together and acts as my back up/off grid camping power combo. My small camper has an Interstate 12v, 35 ah deep cycle house battery that is SAE solar plug ready-it powers the lights, fan and charging ports in the rig. Here's the ?: Is it possible (with an MC4 to SAE adapter) to charge my AGM battery with my ecoflow panel? I realize I will need a charge controller (since ecoflow's panel does not have one built in) but have NO IDEA what kind of controller, or if that's even possible. HELP!

    what happens if I hook up a 200w panel? will my Jackery 240 catch fire, or will it just simply draw only 42w from the 200w panel?

      @@avonlearebel the 240 can support 12-30v input. As long as the 200w panel can support between 12-30v it will be fine. I am charging my jackery right now in a regular house outlet and it is taking in 39 watts, research showed me that the max input of the jackery explorer 240 is 42 watts. 12 volts at 39 watts equals 3.25 amps. Google volts to amps electrical conversion calculator to put in the numbers. I grabbed these “numbers” from the bottom of my 240 jackery. 200w might be able to grab more sunlight to convert in low light conditions but the max input to charge jackery will still be 42watts . You would melt wires if you used the tiniest little wires to run electricity across long distances. There are charts that can help you choose an appropriate AWG wire size with distance and voltage. Anyways….The bigger jackery power stations can better utilize a 200 watt solar panel as their input is 200 watt max compared to my explorer 240 at 42 watts max input. Hope this helps, good luck to you.

    Hello Hobotech… first and foremost.. we appreciate your wisdom and support in the solar world. I recently purchased a Jackery 1000 pro… and have connected it to a 340 watt single panel which on my meter was producing 39.4 volts in full sun. I have adapted the mc4 cables to 8mm from Amazon. That said… I’ve tried this setup on two different panels ..a 160 watt and the 340 watt…but the Jackery pro doesn’t recognize either. It’s making me crazy… any suggestions would be greatly appreciated 🤪. Thank you

    Greetings! Could you please Tell me if I need anything besides what I have. I’m going on a trip next week. I have bought a 120 W solar foldable panel from rinkmo. It has an output box end it came with a DC cable to connect to the power supply. First I would like that cable to be longer, but do I need MC4cables or a solar charger? What about if I want to put two panels together what cable do i need?

    Nice video of the Jackery, and how to hook up a solar panel! I was wondering... the limit is probably the charge controller built into the unit, and has to be specific because of the lithium battery, that and because of "warranty" purposes. I wonder what the inside of the Jackery looks like. I am sure you can either replace the charge controller, or bypass it to a bigger one. They are small enough you can probably mount it to the case somewhere, then run the wires inside. I like the idea of a Jackery, and portable power. If you decide to try it, it would make a great video!

      the jackery input port is limited because most people use the included cable to recharge the unit from a vehicle lighter outlet. but, most of the "lighter" outlets in new vehicles are not designed to put out 15+ amps that a real cigar/cigarette lighter draws, most are limited to a lower number.. the outlet in my honda civic has a 6 amp fuse, same as the outlets in most new vehicles. so jackery had to limit the input current to their device so it can't blow the fuses in newer vehicles. it would have been cool if jackery had designed the unit with dual inlet ports, one for the lighter cord and one just for solar input that could be current-unlimited. but i'm sure that for a new unit they tried to keep the cost as low as possible, future units might have more bells and whistles...

    @UCVsNMiYQkqwIq_gd0rTJF9g - Nice idea. Universal DIY 12V adapter for a single loose solar panel. For a system you really need a charge controller, but for a single panel hooking into a something like a Jackery, Goalzero or a automotive jump pack it's a good adapter. You could have gotten away with clamping onto the wires rather than stripping and splicing, but it would be really Mickey Mouse. I'm sort of surprised you didn't have any heat shrink tape, I would certainly list it on your Amazon store. Keep rolling.

    That 12v socket is $28 in Canada, the MC-4 cables are $22. Still cheaper than a new Jackery panel which is $390 in Canada.

    After days of comparing the Jackery to the other small battery chargers I just unboxed the Aeiusny UPS-500AD. I think I may have chose wrong because of the user manual being so poorly written. Check this out, it's from the list of warnings on the first page of the manual:
    4. Stop using the product once it smokes or gets on fire during the working. And put off the fire with extinguisher immediately to avoid bomb.

    • @HOBOTECH
      @HOBOTECH  5 лет назад

      You have to discharge it before using? What a crock. You're actually supposed to fully charge a lithium battery before fully discharging so the BMS can do its job.

      @doreenhenry8805 5 лет назад

      @@HOBOTECH That's good to know because I had plugged it in to charge it when I got it. It's at 100% and has been for hours. I'm charging a few things with it right now. Maybe I'll keep it and just keep everyone informed on how well or poorly it preforms. There aren't a lot of videos concerning the Aeuisny and I really don't intend to ever make a video, but maybe I will. My husband will read the manual when he gets home. I hope he can understand it more than I did. But he's like you, he knows all about this stuff.
