Thank you so much for sharing this cuz this has explained so much on why I’m doing such steps in some tutorials 😊 and also I can play around with some ideas without needing any patterns!
Hey!! I’m just finishing up my back body panel right now, and I’m a little confused on how you crocheted the panels/sleeves together using a stitch. If you could link a video or explain that’d be great!! You’re such an amazing instructor I can’t wait to finish this!
hey! i’ll have a look for a video but you just need to place the two pieces together, attach your yarn to both by knotting in through a stitch on both panels, then chain 1, and single crochet or slip stitch in both panels! i’m not sure if that makes sense but it’s sort of like you’re making an extra row up the side but it’s creating a seam that joins the two pieces together
Notes for me: - 7:26 decrease stitches - account for the ribbing 2-3 inches - shoulder to shoulder - under the neck (near collarbone) to how long you want
What a nice video! And what a great sweater construction! I‘m so glad, I found your video. I am going to subscribe. Thanks for your work, you put in this tutorial. Best regards!
Hey loving this pattern!! Im just starting the bottom ribbing and had a couple of questions: 1. You said the last stitch in the row away from the body should be a regular single crochet, after youve done the turning chain should you then do a regular single crochet for the first stitch in the next row too? 2. After you slip stitch to attach the ribbing to the rest of the jumper do you need a turning chain before you start the next row?
hey! thank you! 1. the first stitch should be a back loop only stitch, it’s only that last stitch away from the body that should be a regular sc as this is what gives the ribbing a clean edge! 2. i do a turning stitch but i’m sure you could just not do one? i think it makes it less fiddly if you do do one but you just need to take into account that you’ll have an extra stitch and not to crochet into that when coming back down the row otherwise you’ll increase the stitch count (hope this makes sense 🥲)
@@crochemily sorry for the late reply but that made total sense! Thank you so much, nearly finished with my jumper and loved this pattern + appreciate the reply!
Hi!! I’m new to crochet and have tried to find the answer to this question but I’m struggling - so sorry if it’s obvious 😭 when you’ve done the decrease on one side, how do you then attach yarn to the other side of the panel? The only answers I can find are how to attach yarn to another piece of yarn if that makes sense? Thank you! X
you’ll want to place your hook in the first stitch on the other side and then pull your yarn through, tie the yarn in a knot so it’s secured, place your hook back in the stitch and ch however many chains you need for your stitch and then crochet as normal :)
I'm using this tut to make a sweater the same size as my all time favorite one but it looks SOOOO big (the OG is REALLY oversized) and I'm so worried I messed it up 😭 I'll keep updates on how it goes though!
is it looking like a similar width to the jumper you’re basing it on? i’ve found that when i’m making the panels i think it looks waaayyy to big but once i finish the piece and actually try it on it doesn’t look as big because of how the piece drapes on the body! :)
i’m not sure what you mean by add it on the next row but i’ll trim the colour i just finished with, leaving a few inches as a tail, and change into the next colour & then i’ll use that tail to create a few knots with the starting tail of the new colour just to really secure it and then i’ll weave in the tails at the end :) i’m not sure if that makes sense?
I thought the same until it clicked. It really could use a bit more explanation there for people that haven’t done ribbing before. Did you figure it out?
I'm Brazilian, and I really liked how your sweater turned out! Could you explain how you did the neck part? I couldn't quite understand it, sorry 12:59
hey! what are you struggling with in particular? i’m not sure how to explain it to make it clearer but to make the neck part you’re going to work on one side first and then the other side as we are crocheting it to hug your neck! you’ll crochet up to where your neck is on one side, chain, then decrease to make the neck part sort of slant as your neck gets wider; you’ll want to decrease each time in the inner part which will sit against your neck! i’m not sure if that makes any more sense but i’m sure there are more in depth tutorials on youtube which will show you how to construct a neckline!
Do I really need to stretch out my chain at the beginning? I feel like when I do that I don't reach my required width. I made a chain of 60 and it stretched out to 50 cm. But when I started my rows I noticed how it did not stretch out to 50 cm... so now I don't know whether it will eventually stretch out or if I need to make a longer chain.
i mean to stretch it so that it's straight :) i find my chains curl so I stretch them to straighten them and see if they meet my measurement! sometimes though, you might find that as you make your panels it will start getting a little bigger as your tension is usually tighter for a foundation chain than for your regular stitches (just from my own experience)
Hi, I'm thinking of making this for my friend as a bday gift so I (obviously) don't have her measurements and I don't want to ask her for them cuz it would ruin the surprise lol. So are there any rough measurements for a size medium for example? I thought of just looking at the measurements on a website of a shop or something but idk..
hey! sorry for the late reply - i think looking at standard measurements online would be best (like you said you looked on a shop website) or maybe base it off your own size - so depending of if she is smaller or bigger than you then adjust the size accordingly? it's always difficult making clothes for other people but i would say it's always better to make it too big than too small! :)
I’m planning on making this and I was wondering, what stitch did you use to sew the two main body panels together? Great tutorial by the way. I saw ur autumn colored sweater on Pinterest and wanted to try this so bad, then one day this popped up on my recommended page!
@@crochemilydid you switch your colors each time you reached a new one in the stripes? Like when you were sewing the panels together, if you did, does it make a big difference?
yes i did :) the only difference that it makes is that it looks more seamless (so say if i used one colour yarn to join them, you'd likely see the different colour poking through which i don't like)@@Thatweird_art-girl
no so when i changed colour i would drop the colours not in use and crochet over them using the yarn that i’m using to join the sides at the moment if that makes sense? :)
I love crocheting, but i havent made any clothes yet. I feel like i could make this without getting frustrated and just giving up :D If i remember, i'll leave an update on how it went
Hi Emily, thank you for the tutorial! When creating the neckline, is it more important to look at whether the stitches (where the stitch markers are going to be) align when folded or should I consider that there should be the same amount of stitches from both sides? Hope the question is clear!
hey! i would say either is fine and that it doesn’t matter all too much which one you go for as i’m sure they’ll likely be very similar! but personally i would go for distance from the edge rather than the number of stitches as i feel like that would look more symmetrical :)
Hey Emily I had a question,I don’t really get how much yarn overall needed for the jumper you made in the video:) I thank you though for the really detailed video found it really helpful
Loved the tutorial 💗 the jumper is giving major fall vibes honestly 🧸 . I want to make this but I'm kinda confused, could you please tell me the total yarn you used in making of this jumper. Please please 🥺 I really need it.
when you do the ribbing of the collar and cinch it in, do you slip stitch twice all the way around? or just in the beginning? sorry if that doesn’t make sense lol
all the way around! so after each two rows, when you get to slip stitching to the body, if you want it to be cinched/tapered you'll do an additional slip stitch every time
I made the chain so it can stretch to 19 inches like you did but in every row it kept getting larger up to 21 or more inches is that normal or am I doing something wrong??
yes that can happen when the tension of your foundation chain is tighter than the tension of your stitches and it will create a sort of curved shape as you start making rows! i'd recommend either creating your foundation chain looser than you normally would or making it shorter to account for that increase in width :)
At the start, which chain do you go into? The first from the hook, second etc? Hope this isn't a silly question, I'm very new and I know sometimes you aren't supposed to go into the first chain from the hook when doing the first row!
it depends on what stitch you want to use! for single crochet you will want to start in the stitch next to your hook, for half double crochet, you’ll want to start 2 stitches from your hook, and for double crochet you’ll start 3 stitches from your hook! there are lots of tutorials on basic stitches if you’re confused and need some visual instructions :)
@@crochemilythank you so much for your response, I really appreciate you getting back to me! It helped a lot :) I am currently about to do my first colour change (already gotten so much further than anticipated, your tutorial is so clear!), I was wondering if im supposed to tie the tails of the two colours together or leave them loose? amazing thank you! maybe if you search self-striping orange/brown yarn online you will be able to find something in your area! a lot of brands make similar yarns but i don’t know anything that is exact off the top of my head :)
hey babes !! This was so amazing and I'm so excited about making my first clothing piece! I do have a question!!! It's about when you're single crocheting the panels together. Are you switching out colors as you do so to match the stripes ??? If you did how did you do that ?? I've been wondering if I can just use one color to crochet the panels together. Thank you so much again for all your hard work on your videos !!!!!
ty! yes i did switch the colours when crocheting the sides together! i started off with the brown and when it came to the next colour i finished the last stitch with the next colour (if that makes sense? there's a little tutorial on changing colours within the vid) and then would carry the colours not being used underneath the other stitches until it was time to pick it up again when i got to the next stripe of that specific colour! hopefully that makes sense but let me know if not!
@@crochemily omg !!! okay yes this totally makes sense,, I was almost going to cut it each time and weave in the ends as I go BUT carrying the yarn over is so much better THANK YOU SM

@@crochemily yeah it is! I never even thought about the draping part, the one I'm basing it on drapes a LOT so yeah that's probably why 😅
thank you so much its very easy to make 🥰🥰
DROP MORE CROCHET TUTORIALS
i’m planning on it! i just work full time so have to make videos around that! 😩🫶
thank you so so so much for this 💖
Thank you for the sizing
When you change colour for the next stripe, do you cut the colour you were using then add it on the next row ? , I hope that makes sense 😅thank youuu
i’m not sure what you mean by add it on the next row but i’ll trim the colour i just finished with, leaving a few inches as a tail, and change into the next colour & then i’ll use that tail to create a few knots with the starting tail of the new colour just to really secure it and then i’ll weave in the tails at the end :) i’m not sure if that makes sense?
Good tutorial but you completely lost me at the ribbing.
I thought the same until it clicked. It really could use a bit more explanation there for people that haven’t done ribbing before. Did you figure it out?
Also struggling with the ribbing
@@alyciajennings6938 I just watched another jumper tutorial for the ribbing.
Search @stitchberry on here. It clicked with her tutorial
You can use front and back post stitch instead
Thank you very much! I'm almost done my sweater! :)
Can you please tell how much yarn I will need for one colour sweater?
I’m planning on making this and I was wondering, what stitch did you use to sew the two main body panels together? Great tutorial by the way. I saw ur autumn colored sweater on Pinterest and wanted to try this so bad, then one day this popped up on my recommended page!
i single crocheted them together! you can use slip stitch or sew them together though, i just find single crochet easier and faster! and thank you! :)
@@crochemily how would you do that? Would I just cut it off after every stitch or something else?
no so when i changed colour i would drop the colours not in use and crochet over them using the yarn that i’m using to join the sides at the moment if that makes sense?
Also, it seems my two panels are off by one or so chains - will this be very problematic later one?
hey! i would say either is fine and that it doesn’t matter all too much which one you go for as i’m sure they’ll likely be very similar! but personally i would go for distance from the edge rather than the number of stitches as i feel like that would look more symmetrical :)
Hey Emily
I had a question,I don’t really get how much yarn overall needed for the jumper you made in the video:)
I thank you though for the really detailed video found it really helpful
i used about 400g total! :)
@@crochemily thank you
Loved the tutorial 💗 the jumper is giving major fall vibes honestly 🧸 .
I want to make this but I'm kinda confused, could you please tell me the total yarn you used in making of this jumper.
Please please 🥺
I really need it.
hey! thanks so much :) i used around 75g of each colour so 300g total!
@@crochemily Thank you so much 💗 I'll start making it soon and will tag you on ig once I'm done.
when you do the ribbing of the collar and cinch it in, do you slip stitch twice all the way around? or just in the beginning? sorry if that doesn’t make sense lol
all the way around! so after each two rows, when you get to slip stitching to the body, if you want it to be cinched/tapered you'll do an additional slip stitch every time
I don’t know why, but the ribbing on the body panels gave me the most trouble (probably a skill issue) but I wasn’t expecting it 😅
I made the chain so it can stretch to 19 inches like you did but in every row it kept getting larger up to 21 or more inches is that normal or am I doing something wrong??
yes that can happen when the tension of your foundation chain is tighter than the tension of your stitches and it will create a sort of curved shape as you start making rows! i'd recommend either creating your foundation chain looser than you normally would or making it shorter to account for that increase in width :)
How do you attach your yarn on the other side of the neck decreases? Thank you for your tutorial!!
Thank you so much 🎉❤
At the start, which chain do you go into?
I did a little Google and got some conflicting answers :') thank you so much for your help!!
i tie mine in a double knot and then weave the ends in between the stitches! again there will be tutorials online if you get stuck! i'm glad to be able to have helped! :) @@nataliescoles3237
@@crochemily awesome, thank you so much! :)
Hey! This tutorial is perfect i’ve watched it so many times now😭 Im using the yellow/green yarn from the first jumper and wondered what the name of the yarn you used for your ribbing was? Thank youu
it's the cygnet acrylic dk yarn in the shade chocolate :)
hi! love the tutorial, ive only been crocheting for a few weeks but i wanted to push myself to make something like this, so i will be following this video! the brown/orange yarn you used for the single crochet jumper is out of stock on amazon (im guessing because of this video haha), do you have any recommendations for some similar yarn?
amazing thank you! maybe if you search self-striping orange/brown yarn online you will be able to find something in your area! a lot of brands make similar yarns but i don’t know anything that is exact off the top of my head :)
hey babes !!
GOOD JOB!!!👕
That's so so nice. Could you do a granny square cardigan? 😮
ty! and yes i will put it on the list :)
how did you join both sides of the jumper together?
P.S i love this tutorial its so easy to use
i used single crochet to join them! :)
