There is street selling even in the London. The difference is that they councils allow it in places with large walk ways or car parks that are not so busy or side street/ alleys. The idea is to balance the hawker's right to earn a living with the need for keeping the city orderly. So rather than having them put their wares on the pavement floor, the council here at times provides them with stalls. This can be easily done even in Nairobi.
Great video, new subscriber from the Caribbean here. I like the street hawkers vibes. Hawkers are trying to earn a living which is good. I am happy the government is not stopping them from earning.
Hey...Nairobi downtown looks just like Accra Central. I suppose this area is different from Nairobi uptown ? We have the same problem of pedestrian walkway congestion by street hawkers here in Accra. Anyway.... Kenya is my most favourite country in Africa, after my home country Ghana. Never been there though.....but I will visit someday soon with my family. Always happy to see Kenyans... and I don't know the heck why !!!
The problem in Kenya is that there is no regulation on anything, public transport, pedestrian walk ways, housing etc... The list is endless. This is something Moi was very good at and that is why Nairobi was the green city in the sun under his tenor
During moi time Nairobi was a real market place, hawkers could bring sacks of potatoes and carrots at the middle of the city,no one to clean and street children could mess you if you refuse to give them money.
There's a saying in Latin America that: "people get the government they deserve". The Nairobians that voted for the current county government should live with their decision. I remember seeing dancing and celebrations when Governor Sakaja was elected.
Nice video as usual, I agree with you that this is not how things should be done but remember, we said "bottom up" and kazi ni kazi so nothing much can be done, I am even wondering how the mechanics have not started fixing cars in the CBD and car wash next to county governors offices.......You may even end up being criticized for being insensitive to the plight of common mwanchi

@@francisngugi8228 order is needed. Very dangerous for people to walk with vehicles in the street because the entire sidewalk is a market. They need designated places only and probably not all can be accommodated
Everyone needs to make a living, so Nairobi council should have separate areas for the hawkers but still central so people can choose to where to buy. I would love to buy fresh produce from the farmers who come from the countryside. Unfortunately there seems to be lack of will and organisation from the people that have the power and money. Make Nairobi a clean and enticing place to visit for ALL its population not just tourists
A street without hawkers is sterile and has no atmosphere. A real city has street traders and it adds to the hustle and bustle that is great for Tourism and what visitors like. I don;t like the term hawkers as it is not kind.
There is no easy solution, perhaps this state of affairs is better than being part of the wrong type of activities. Are there any other legal ways for them to make money? As long as it is not a scam and the goods are of declared quality, legal origin and these people pay taxes. It probably doesn't make economic sense for them to rent a kiosk or market stall. How much is the rent for such a place in that location and how much product would they have to sell there to make a profit?
Kisumu is clean because ALL the Luos are here in Nairobi! Firstly, the Streets must be swept. Litter everywhere! Then the Hawkers should be assigned places, away from main CBD Avenues! There are TWO kichororos, one Kimarhi St and another one behind Old Mutual building! These hawkers can work in these two GULLIES!
What if Ur parent maybe was feeding Ur family through hawking, would u talk this way??let ppl do what they hv t do t put food in their tables until government creates employment.
Did you even watch the video till the end?that was my concern also ...some hawkers are being thrown out of the city while others enjoy...the county government should come up with a much organised way to accommodate all hawkers

Very soon Nairobi will turn into a market place , getting the hawkers out the cbd will not be easy. The government is not doing anythin, it’s a shame
Why should it...They elected this current government for this reason so...

Remember that most kenyans are u employed so chasing them it won't help.. will only add fuel to the fire ..
Get them at all cost from the street
Nice video love from Mumbai India
Wow my beautiful city has really changed
I like contents like this wow 👌 👏 good job.
Thanks
I stand with the hawkers .... its what the government has forced them to do!
Thanks for your feedback...what do you think the government should do to improve the situation
It is what Rigathi wanted😅
Am coming to Nairobi tomorrow. I expect to Meet more hawkers there as usual
They are still there but I believe the country government officials will do something soon
Let's hope

City coucil should organise and build indoor markets where they can sell!
How well dressed the kenyans are
Kiambu finest some are just hard workers but many are wa nyongaji
Something needs to be done.....this is chaotic.
True 👍
We can't fit in your office and our families must be fed meanwhile ruto must go

They should really do something about these hawkers

They did that long time ago

People walking in the middle of the roads , very uncivilised. SAD INDEED .
They have no where to walk because of the street traders downtown or did you not watch and comprehend?
Impunity
Hawkers add to the hustle and bustle of a vibrant city. They add to the vibrancy of the city. Better than a city with no hawkers.

Government does not create employment, I don’t know who told you that
