Watching you and your boys always amaze me with how you show years of combined experience and knowledge on mechanical things. Reminds me of my dad, RIP, who also had that kind of knowledge. Thanks for showing us how things are done.

The people who bring their vehicles to your shop are very fortunate. They know they will receive excellent service. Thanks for inviting us into your shop.
I am a retired master tech and now old and lazy. I have a F-150 and had a noise from the rear diff, I put it in the air and listened to the rear and confirmed (to me) that the diff was bad. I took it to the Ford dealer as it is still under warranty. They took forever to check it and finally told me that their tech said the noise was coming from the xfer case. I said I had isolated the noise to the rear diff and they as mych as told me I was an old man and their tech was a professional. They rebuilt the xfer case and after a few weeks called me and said during the road test the noise was still there and it was coming from the rear diff. I asked if I could drive it home ( about 150 miles) and they said their "expert tech" said it was OK. I made sure they ut that in Oasis, the Ford warranty system and drove it to my regular dealer. They said the xfer case was making a bad noise and they drained it and chunks came out. The xfer case was rebuild (it had completely hand grenaded) and then they said the rear diff was bad. They rebuild the entire rear axle as everything was bad and contaminated. That is what you get from the preformed idea that an old man can't know anything and then screwing up royally. I wish you were closer to have repaired my truck! great job!
While there are a few good mechanics left way too many of the “techs” are useless parts changers … their entire idea of trouble shooting is what the computer says, and if there’s no computer they are as clueless as a 3 year old girl.

Chad, your mechanical skills and electrical skills are a pleasure to watch and learn from. Thanks for the in depth rebuild and explanation of how the transfer case works.
I had a 1982 GMC pickup. I didn’t know anything about transfer cases. So when I bought the truck I was doing maintenance, changing fluids out and I refilled the transfer case with 90 weight gear oil! Never had any problems. Drove it thousands of miles. Finally parked it in 2002 I think.

I had almost that same problem with my Suburban. It didn't leak but basicly evaporated the tranny fluid and burnt the inside. But it only had 325,000 miles on it,it is an '01.
I rebuilt my first transfer case last fall and it was definitely a learning experience and I can appreciate how difficult this job was. Mine was a Dodge 241dld and the chain was loose and also found a synchronizer clip broken way down inside that made me have to tear it completely apart to fix. I had to do it twice because I put the broken clip on the wrong side of the gear it went on and it made it not able to freewheel in 2wd. I couldn’t find a reference for where the clip went and chose the wrong option lol. So I had to take it back out and do it all over again 😣 I definitely learned a lot about them tho and I’m confident I could fix another one now so actually it wasn’t so bad. I try not to go by the “we fix it right cause we do it twice” motto very often but sometimes it happens lol
I drove Suburbans from 1976, one model and second an 8 passenger - 1st a utility , single bench, I put my 10 foot rowboat into the back and close barn doors, 350 aspirated 2 barrel Holly, manual - Spicer 4X4 - second was a family wagon, 4X4 automatic-350ci on propane, only took $25 per 400 + km on road trips with7 passengers and trailer hauling all toys to BC coast, wish that was electric now :)
I haven’t gotten to know the names of your boys yet. But, I have watched you and all of them in your shop. Is your oldest formally educated as an auto technician? Or, taught by you by growing up in the garage? He is extremely competent in his abilities. All the boys are like stair steps not only in age but in abilities. It’s awesome to watch how each one works with the younger siblings to bring them along in their knowledge with you and your brother keeping a watchful eye over everyone. You guys have a kind of apprenticeship program of your own! 👏👌
In this video I leaned something about my 07 Yukon, the transfer case should actually make a "Motor noise" as it is shifting, and there are lights on the shift selector to indicate what position or gear you are currently in! My new transfer case was not the only part that required replacement. Great Job
Great informative video! My 2003 3/4 ton has the auto 4WD but I have never used it. I would guess that when the transfer case shifts in on auto the front differential locks in at the same time. The shift motor went out and it indicated that it was in auto. Keep up the good work and keep growing. Stay safe healthy and happy 👍

It's connected to the main shaft and the outer body just sits in some notches in the case. The only thing that kept the pump from rocking in the case was a little spring clip that would break at around 80k miles.

@Chad's Fab Hi guys, I was backtracking through yer older videos and it looks like I missed a few and THIS one (the one I needed) is one of them, yay! So I have a couple of questions for you on Suburbans. I have the '94 K2500 and it appears the '93 and '94 are Very Close to being the same. #1: Do you need to have it in 4WD High to change out the actuator in the front dif, so the washer doesn't slip? Someone removed the electric actuator before I bought it and installed a lever and cable system. A very lightweight cable and even lighter brackets, basically junk. So I want to obviously put in an original style actuator. #2: What year is the second white Suburban, and does it have the same transfer case as the '94 does? PS, my Suburban is also White. Are they all white? LOL Thanks in advance, Bob.
the washer will only fall out if you pull the axle stub off of the differential case. The second suburban is a 2007 and has a np246 case. Your 94 will have a np241 case.
