- In this video, we're going to check out an easy way to change your object origins, and therefore your pivot points inside of Blender!
This can make scaling and rotating much more precise and easy to do inside of your models!
Sir, you are a genius, simply for showing the options menu and how to move the origin point MANUALLY.
You have no idea how many videos and text articles I've gone through to get this piece of information, and they all meticulously dodge that issue and rather focus on snapping to an edge or the right click dropdown etc. Like slalom avoidance. Thank you so much!
yeah exactly, in all other 3d app, it's the standard, adjust pivot in max, modify pivot in maya.
i don't know why the blender just beating around the bush about this
Dang! That is so useful! I've been watching Blender tutorials for months now, and I haven't seen this until now. Thank you!
Glad I could help! :)
Dear Justin, I was struggling the whole afternoon to rotate my object with constraints after I applied my rotation. I'm so lucky I found your tutorial, which just was the answer I was looking for! Now I can spend the rest of the day in peace..Your tutorials are the best. Thanks!
thanks man, people like you are the reason amateurs like me can figure out how to use this program for small projects without doing a whole course
Worth noting that the shortcut to toggle "Origins Only" is Ctrl dot (then select the object to select the origin) faster than going to the menu.
Another way:
Assign a shortcut to Object > Set origin > Origin to 3d cursor - I have mine set to Ctrl , [that's Ctrl comma]. To assign a shortcut right click the menu item
Shift - right click - drag > moves the 3d cursor, snap where you want (you can use ctrl at the same time to toggle snapping)
Ctrl ,
Really fast once you get used to it and shift right click drag is useful for placing new objects or just getting the 3d cursor out of the way
Good stuff - thanks!
Really useful! Thank you!
Thanks your All for this information!!!
There are ways to speed up the process of changing Pivot's location for free. Activate the Addon built into the Blender called 3D Viewport Pie Menus > Edit Mode > Mark Verts, Edge or Face > Press Ctrl+Alt+X and select "Origin To Selection" > DONE!
Besides, there is also an option to pin the pivot immediately to the bottom of the mesh. Much faster.
If someone does not like Pie menu, another interesting free addon is "Origin at selected". In the same way, in Edit mode, select the place where you want to place your pivot, press Shift+Ctrl+C and you're DONE! :)
Nice video. It's worth knowing the basics of how Blender works, but it's not worth tormenting yourself.
Nothing wrong with these methods either - this method is also free. Thanks! :)
Cool info ! thx
How do you pin the pivot immediately to the bottom of the mesh?
Coming from Max i find it difficult working on an object that is at an angle. In Max you can add a grid helper place it on a surface you want and make it active and your xyz will all be dependent on that plane. Is there a way in Blender to do that?
Yes, as a beginner, Michal, it would be helpful if you could break down how to pivot immediately to the bottom of the mesh. Where is this option? Thanks!
Hi everyone! Let me know if you have any questions about this tutorial in the comments below! :)
I am using 2.91.2 and this option isn't available in the drop down you showed in your video. Do you know where it could be?
@@nu-beings Yes I saw this. They did away with a very useful tool. One step forward - two steps back
@@FrankCappello_official Yeah man, I just purchased Maya Indie. I figure I may as well use what I know works.
he really wasn't lying when he said "one easy trick". thank you sir!
So easy! I was looking for this video for hours, I watched a lot of videos and no one successfully explained how to really change the position of the origin point! THANK YOU SO MUCH SIR! Well appreciated!
This small trick is such a big help. I have been fighting this stupid origin point for hours and hours over the past few days.
Lol - I still struggle with the origin sometimes
@@TheCGEssentials until this video I resolved myself to just figuring out where the origin point was and then drawing around that. Or just both rotating and moving drawings around to mimic what it should have been doing to begin with.
Im currently learning Blender and you've helped me so much today. I've solved problems with three of your videos today. Thanks!
Thank you so much for this video!! I'm transitionning form Maya and the only thing I didn't like about Blender was the pivot management, now I assigned this fuction to the D key and the pivot management is just like in Maya! I love it.
Hey, thanks for that advice! Assigning it to a hotkey (AN EASY WAY IS TO RIGHT CLICK ON THE PARAMETER AND THEN SELECT "ASSIGN HOTKEY") makes it even more effective.
My son and I were literally just trying to figure this out and ready to throw in the towel. It made no sense why I had to select mesh to reposition it, I just wanted to do it freeform. THANK YOU.
Awesome - glad I could help! :)
Without your video my work wouldn't be finished today, thank you very much.
This is a great tip! I added the checkbox in the quick menu so no need to go to that dropdown!
glad I found this option, coming from years of using maya it was really easy to change the pivot
Finally a video which doesn't show the long way. 👍
I was having a hard time following the vid for creating the walls from floor plan video because I had no idea how to change the pivot, thank you for this!
Glad I could help! :)
As a Maya User I made a handy hot key on "Options/Origins". I use "Shift+Insert". It's about the next best thing to Maya's way.
This. As a Maya user, this is what I was looking for. Thank you.
Justin, the quick way is to select "Transform Origins" is to press Control plus the (.) period sign on the main keyboard. (Not the period on the number pad) Pressing it again deselcts it. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the info!
Excellent tip, no more total disorientation, thanks.
Nice one, thanks! I looked at so many other videos about this, they just blah blah blah'd on forever and made it so difficult lol
thank you so much sir!
i did this in another way, and it was so annoying to change the origin positions every time, this video helps alot!
The most valuable contents i've seen about Blender. Thank you.
Glad you liked it!
Great tips Justin ! Thanks.👍👍
Happy to help!
solved a major problem for me that I couldnt find anywhere else. liked and subscribed.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I've been looking for ways to fix my pivot origin, but all the tutorials either didn't show it or it was through some indirect extra method that I didn't ask for.
Helpful
I was actually trying to remember how to change 3d location way but found something better.
Thanks for the tip! I came from c4d and was wondering where that easily accessible option was
I have searching this for weeks! thank you very much
Short and to the point. Thank you for your hard work!
This plus your other snapping tutorial are golden. Thanks!
Glad you think so!
if you ever come to panama let me know...I get you a full pack of beer for this tutorial.... gracias amigo it was so useful....
Pro tip! I was just thinking yesterday that I wishing there was a better way to set the origin point without the 3D cursor. The option was there all along.
great tip man! I right clicked on the 'orgins' text in the dropdown and set to my quick favorites
Thank you for this video, I was in total mental chaos for this problm.
This tip will help me during cad modeling
Oh totally will!
The hotkey is Ctrl+.(Ctrl+Dot). because blender is more shortcut friendly
More shortcut friendly than...what?
@@TheCGEssentials thats why i think habits of shortcuts should be build.
jesus... who design this crap
in maya you just grab it and drop it, I dont get all this nonsense
This is why after 3 months of using blender, for a job, I just freaking hate it as why do they have to over complicate thins compared to Maya or Zbrush.
Thank you for this as I was what felt like tearing my hair out trying to move and rotate a piviot so I can scale things.
Thank you for the video Justin, it helped a lot for me.
Thanks A LOT!
I was getting desperate trying to do the opposite: wasn't able to move my object but just the pivot was moving (at least in object mode. I don't know in which moment I ticked onto that option but now it's solved.
By the way, your sound like a cool radio DJ and it makes your videos extra entertaining.
This was sooooo useful! Thanks!
:)
Love this Trick. Thanks for sharing with us!
Thanks for watching!
THANK YOU SAVED ME A BIG HEADACHE
I was about to toss Blender out the MS Window for the ridiculous 3D cursor approach to setting the origin and then this popped up. (Google was watching my searches, apparently.) Big thanks. Worth subscribing, too!
Simply great!
How do you reset your pivot point to the centre of the object accurately?
Omg thank you so much!!! I had just spent the last 10-15 mins or so trying to figure this out. This video was so helpful and I couldn’t believe it was that easy to do!
What a great tutorial, easy and simple, Thanks a lot
Thank you so much. I was losing my mind with the cursor, so I was trying to move the pivot point like in Maya
Lol - I was in the same boat - the way the cursor works in Blender is just kind of...different
Thanks a bunch man this helped me with my problem! somehow I activated transform to origin and i didnt know why i coulnt edit my objects!
This is fabulous. I want to thank you for all the wonderful tutorials. You have been a great help!
Bro, you are a legend, you just solved my problem... THANKS
Very cool and handy. Thanks a ton!
Thanks for this little tutorial, I've been searching for something like this for almost 2 hours!
This really helped me a lot!
Glad it helped!
I am new to Blender and to your channel, thank you great content!
Thank for this. Previously, I found the pivot point one of the few things I found easier in Maya than in Blender..
Glad it helped!
No brother , It is same in maya, blender and max . Maya has given shortcut T only except all same process
Simple as that, straight to point. Thank you so much
Thanks for your video. Just what I was looking for.
Glad I could help!
Thank you! Allways the right tip!
WOW! Thank you, this makes me like blender again.
It's an amazing shortcut. Three cheers to you. Thank you so very much.
Ooh - I think this one is my favorite :)
I usually rotate via 3D cursor but this is cool too especially using hot key of ctrl . to toggle origin mode
Yep - good shortcut :)
I cannot thank you enough for this video! You’re a life saver
super valuable, thanks mr justin
Thanks, I didn't know any of this.
this is incredibly useful! thanks
Amzing, thanks man !
THANK YOU! Some of the most stupidly simple things take forever, but this saved me so much time thanks to your concise directions. I've subbed!
Game changer, love it!
😭!!thanku sm fixed my problem in 1 min 👍🏼now my bones r generated at right point😇😇
this is the only thing i was missing from maya! :D
This tip was a good one, thumbs up👍
Thanks! Much appreciated!
I did spend one hour trying to rotate the orientation. I mean, moving the origin around especially with snapping active is quite easy with the option you suggested. But, when it comes to all change the orientation of the origin to match precisely whatever direction you want, (e.g. a geometry feature not aligned with one of the faces) than snapping seems not to be useful... Or, at least, I was not able to get it done. :/
On latest Blender version: selected the object then Right Click > Options > Set Origin > Origin to Center of Mass (Volume)
Amazing. Really useful. Thanks.
you dont know but you solve my problem , a big big big thank you
Awesome!
great vid!
tysm i was animating a roblox rig in blender and the rotation was all of until you told me how to fix it also sometimes you have to enable origins and parents for it to work
So much easier and better explained than most tutorials on this. The magic happens at 1:18
Thanks - glad you liked it! :)
Perfect. Thank you.
VERY helpful! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
This should be more well known. so much easier. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Amazing, thanks a lot for the tip !
Thanks for watching!
thanks again man, in any problem i have i found a solution in your channel :D
Great!
you are fantastic, thank you so much!
Very Helpful , specially in CAD drawing , many thanks
Thanks!
Great tip!
Glad it was helpful!
ITS REALLY WORKED LOL THANK YOU DUDE
You saved me...really thanks!
life saver tip
This is great! Thanks!
Great video. Is there a keyboard shortcut toggling "Affect only Origin" on and off?
millions thank you....
This is a way better method. Thank you!
Glad it helped!
Super useful have been looking how to do this for ages Thank you :)
You're welcome!
Very valuable. thanks.
