The fact they’ve removed its hard luggage capabilities stops it being the ultimate do everything motorcycle!

Same for me the Multi Strava PP disappointed me too, I was almost ready to order one. Then came the M1000XR, I ordered last November and got the bike early April… it’s addicting and as you say one can feel exactly what that front wheel is doing, corners are so easy now. And the power is crazy, more than I can use anyway. Cheers.

I have an S1000XR and took an M1000XR competition version out on a BMW trial day at Vines and it felt smaller, lighter and of course, faster. Although the S1000XR in dynamic pro mode is also quick but all the safety nets are off so a bit scary on our country roads with the odd bit of gravel of tractor mud lurking around the next corner. If the M1000XR was cheaper and had hard luggage I’d be very tempted but at 28k, I’d be worried to leave it anywhere.. I have an idea, BMW need to add hard luggage that has a sensor in the luggage clips brackets that sets the power map at 150bhp when luggage is attached. That way you’d have the best of both worlds. Just a thought

I work at a bmw dealer in the Netherlands, if you are really interested in buying an M1000XR, we could change out the fairings from a white one to black without the carbon. So we end up with a white bike with carbon parts. The only downside is that you have to pay for the work to change out the fairings. Maybe if you visit some bmw dealers and maybe ask if there is a possibility they can do it for you. Otherwise I would be happy to help you achieve your dream bike 😊

You basically summed up the Pikes Peak to how I felt about it once I owned one; built it up massively in my mind but once in my possession, came away massively underwhelmed, was like a fast GS. My M1000R Competition I absolutely love to pieces but again not massively comfortable for distance, bought a 1300GS to cover this aspect but still an acquired, almost industrial feeling to whole experience like the PP. Both of these are being collected on Tuesday and being replaced with the XR Competition which I hope is going to give me what I love about the single R but with distance comfort when required. Just my thoughts aside but another riveting review as usual!

No problems with vibes on the gen 2 SXR, and if you are sensitive Evotech weighted bar ends remove any remaining vibes. And I’ve owned both generations - the gen 1 went after a few months because I couldn’t stand the vibes. The M is in a higher state of tune so it sounds like it brings the buzz back - another reason why I’m not interested.

Great review, an amazing bike! I always struggle with all-rounders though - the lack of hard luggage and no top box is a big disadvantage for touring vs S1000XR, Multistrada V4/Pikes Peak or even GS1300. Equally, as fantastic as this bike is, surely any track rider would choose a S1000RR/M1000RR or M1000R. I agree too that £27k is a lot of bike to risk on track. It’s great though that BMW has made this halo bike!

  • @mickgarbutt3553

Lovely bike but a bit of a contradiction... sport/tourer format without the option to fit luggage. And for 27 grand you'd think they'd throw in a radiator guard FFS.

One thing I've read is the M bike does not support use of factory luggage - so not sure it's the best for touring. S1000XR accepts luggage. You can put soft after market bags on the M bike but that's not the same.

Quite happy with the white one, other than that, agree with pretty much everything. Shame about the luggage but I can live with that. Sure they could easily have had a switch fitted so if hard luggage was fitted the top speed was restricted. Kreiga soft luggage will do. I've got the low M seat and it's even more locked in than the standard height. Great bike though, I grin like an idiot every time I ride it!!

I could afford this bike, but it would be a hard bill to swallow though at 27000£ (32 000€). Yet the price is not justified and I would never buy it because of 2 major problems:
1/ There is almost no torque or power at the bottom end of the revs (and i'm too old to have to go reach for the power on the high revs anymore)
2/ The equipment is till not "up to par" at this price range No brembo stylema and the fork is not even an Ohlins which is a lethal mistake at this level of price...
I really think that the best bang for the buck on the market right now is the Triumph Speed Tripple 1200RS with brembo stylema and semi active Ohlins back and front @ 18495€ and at that price the carbon front mud guard is already included ! Props to Triumph ! (Do you really think that this bike's worth putting 13 500€ more than the price of the 1200 RS !? absolutely NOT)

I love the MXR but the price point is absolute insanity. I agree with what you said, for 27k it should be dripping with the top shelf brands like Brembo and Ohlins. The S1000XR would be a better choice for a daily rider and for touring. You could just set aside the money you saved for an R1 or another sport bike with 200bhp that is actually made for track. 😢 20K and I would be all over the MXR.
