Awesome review. I bought a pre-owned Omega PO with the 8500 co-axial movement. I got it for a third of the price of the Submariner, and in my opinion, was a more advanced watch for the money. Don't get me wrong, I love the Rolex brand, I just refuse to pay 50% or higher, above MSRP for ANY watch.
SO much better. Leaps and bounds better. It is so much more interesting. Don't think you could ever get bored of the shine, pop of orange and the amazing shapes of the hands.

Have been seeing many of these comparisons between the new Seamasters (Professional 300m & Planet Ocean) and Submariner, and my choice is always the same. Omega for the win every time, even if they were priced the same as the Sub. I never found that understated aesthetic of Rolex appealing in anyway. Not to mention the things I actually find somewhat cheesy and off putting. From that “Mercedes” hour hand to the inscriptions on the dial that is trying so desperately to standout, downright to the logo which always struck me as resembling a jester’s hat rather than an actual crown. And the bracelets... oh bracelets. There isn’t enough high-end steal alloys or well machined clasps that can ever make me stomach those “iconic” bracelets. They always seemed disproportionate to the case with an abrupt transition at the lugs that just always kills it for me every time I but on a Sub, GMT Master II, Yacht Master II... I will not argue the resale aspect, the market is what it is, but I never bought a watch with the intention of selling it later on. So that allowed me the freedom of buying what I liked and not what seemed like a good investment. And thankfully impressing myself is far more important to me than impressing others who lust after the Rolex name that was mostly built upon very successful marketing & branding strategies not so much the quality and definitely not the aesthetics.
I have a late 90's Omega Seamaster that was rebuilt for the 3rd time. Just got it back and fell in love again. However I did just get a Planet Ocean, WOW!
One thing that really sets this piece apart form the Rolex and the less expensive Seamaster 300 is the applied datewheel, it is not printed as on the rolex , it is actually applied white gold and is raised, if you look at it with a loupe it is a work of art, truly sets the watch into real quality. The applied Omega on the dial, and the ceramic dial versus the brass and lacquer of the rolex, the rolex has a printed dial..the bracelet itself is worked to a higher quality brush and fit then the Seamaster 300, and equal or better to the Rolex, which is a smudge magnet on the sides.
They should have just called the watch the "Omega Planet Ocean" and kept it a separate line from the Seamaster. There are too many variations in the Seamaster series.
Did the same thing. Bought an Omega Speedmaster racing and a planet ocean. Was a little bit more expensive than a sub but more than worth it. Both are so beautiful and accurate! Just love the brand! They know how to make real masterpieces!

I would more likely compare the Omega to the new Sea Dweller, 43mm also, and with both the newest 3235 movement and a Helium escape valve. The new movement is close to the superb accuracy of the Omega Co-Ax movement, and the larger case is more aligned to the tastes of today. Although the Sea Dweller is close to twice as expensive as the Planet Ocean, it's still very desirable, in fact tough to find available in stores.
cam ehere to say this - i daily a PO 42 mm 8500, and want a SD 4k, when ive tried them the SD4k is lower profile and lighter. Its a beaut and i still want it but was surprised.... Sub shouldt be in this comparison IMO
Have the 600M with a rubber strap. Super comfortable, gets worn often and the date is ok to see from any angle (tho it's a bit dark for my eyes with the black background). Everyone loves the orange/black strap. It's a toss up between that and the Big Pilot for daily wear (huge date display, super nice). Have the GMT II Pepsi and another green Sub, it feels small and the magnification to me is a bit annoying because I always have to turn the watch right to my eyes to properly catch the date. I do have the DeepSea, that date window is not magnified and is so easy to see (even underwater) with the high contrast white background. Definitely prefer the no-magnification Rolex configuration.
My eyes drift towards the omega, the submariner has sort of become boring because so many watch companies have homages the submariner that it feels like you've seen it a thousand times. If you try and force yourself to look at the sub with fresh eyes and ignore whatyou've already seen before it is quite nice.
I do agree, you can't go wrong with either given the way most people with use them, and much of it simply comes down to preference of brand and style. They both have their merits and points to criticize. But, I think you get more watch for your dollar with the Omega. I would also add that the Omega Planet Ocean is really Omega's answer to the Rolex Sea Dweller and not the Submariner regarding it's depth rating. I would also go so far as to say the merits of movement can be argued to be superior to the Rolex Submariner as well.
I would love to see, a slimmer and thinner watch in the Omega Planet Ocean line, perhaps one that was waterproof to 300 m instead of 600 m, but with all the benefits of the big 600 m brother. This kind of a more "city-friendly", yet very robust Omega watch, could be a commercial hit for the Omega company and probably a very good watch in general. After this, I just like to wish you a peaceful Advent season, a Merry Christmas and not at least that God will bless you, sir!
Definitely between these two I'd choose the Omega. I just think it's a nicer looking watch. To be honest the Sub is probably my least liked Rolex model. Perhaps because it's been homaged to death I just find it boring. Airking precision would be my Rolex of choice. But as with everything, all a matter of personal taste. Thanks for video man 👌
Idiots will know that your watch is expensive if you wear Rolex. I think that's why people are buying them up, to impress idiots who know nothing about watches.
Nice review. Since Rolex do not have any Submariners or Sea-Dwellers available for sale it would be fitting for reviewers to stop reviewing their watches. I have a PO 43.5 and it's a great watch. Rolex is also great but their unavailability is just irksome.
I own both. The exact same PO you have in the video and a Submariner No Date 114060. I alternate between the 2 every other day. Tbh I favor the PO just a little bit over the Sub, owning both the main thing I will say is this: the PO power reserve kicks the crap out of the Sub’s. For a brand that claims is superior their power reserve sucks compared to the Omega. Best bang per buck Omega is the winner as well. The PO just feels like it’s tougher than the Sub as well.
I nevery buy a watch based on resale value. I buy what I like for the best price period. Omega is my choice. Have had mine for 20 years. Pay 1500 new and can sell it for more used. But it was never my goal to sell. I am too attached.
Have OP 8500 version and if I had to go for new one it will be Omega again; really don't like the cyclope date on Rolex, otherwise it is beautiful, but unjustifiably costly as per me.
While the finishing on the newer planet oceans is phenomenal I still prefer the look and feel of the first iteration. The ceramic models are so thick it’s like wearing a hockey puck on your wrist. What a shame the 2500 movements are so prone to suffering from magnetic issues. Mine became magnetized three times in about six months. That’s why I ended up selling it. Today I have the latest Seamaster 300 professional with the 8800 movement. It ticks most of the boxes for me and is likely to be a keeper.
The Omega is a superior watch on every category. Two things about the Rolex sub that people do not talk about: 1. It magnetizes easily and never really keeps time (COSC). 2. It’s just boring.
I love the Omega, but obviously the Submariner is an awesome watch too. If they were the same price I’d get a Submariner date, but for half the cost, I’ll grab a P.O.!
I own a blue Planet Ocean and I love it. The technology is all there with the movement, METAS, exhibition caseback, shiny ceramic dial, 600m WR, crisp and tight bezel action, the list goes on. And I didn’t have to kiss a Rolex AD’s ass to wait 12 months to buy it 🤷🏻♂️ I also own a SMP 300m and Speedmaster Racing and all 3 are perfect watches at a great value. If you’re looking for a quality timepiece that is readily available with no BS, buy an Omega. You will love it!
Welcome back. You have been missed. I know it’s more ‘work’ for you but, please do keep your channel going. Now, to the watches. The Omega is more legible, nicer to look at to my eyes, has a brilliant bracelet and packs a killer movement and better tech...but it’s 2mm to wide and about 3mmm too thick. The Rolex has a tired but tried and true movement and is unmistakably a Rolex with all that stands for, and it’s an easier size for more people to wear. Sadly, in today’s market it holds value better over the Omega, but it’s generally unobtainable at retail and MSRP. So, Omega it is. Until your next video. Cheers.
Thanks Mark, I really appreciate it. RUclips is a passion project and outlet for me. I hear your points, I also can see why the Blackbay 58 does so well as a cheaper play against these.
Of course I’ll get the OMEGA Planet Ocean.. especially with 8900 movement. It’s technically better, more accurate, fresh design, tested by OMEGA, COSC & METAS and it’s so comfortable.
I have a Cameron deep sea, and just plopped down for the 43.5 planet ocean in white face and orange dial, its pretty nice actually 👌 omega is no joke...
Personally went with the sea dweller 40mm instead. After wearing awhile and then picking up my polar or batman, I kind of understand why people dislike the cyclops as this SD slowly grows on me
I own the Planet ocean 45mm.... It looks much better on my large wrist and I love the small date window over that cyclops nonsense. If I did get a submariner I would get the no date version. I am looking at the Rolex Explorer non GMT with no date....That watch can dress up and down and does not weigh a ton like my Seamaster does!
I own a PO2500C 45.5 and a SD43. The first one cost me 1,550 pounds in 2005, the second one 10,450 euros in 2017. For the money, the PO is far ahead. However, the SD43 is a better watch if money is no object.
I'd have to go with Omega it seems like everybody's got a Rolex the Omega would compliment my Tudor black Bay Steel and I just really like omegas Style looking to get a constellation globemaster I just think it's a far better watch than anything Rolex puts out personal opinion though
If I had a choice only between these two, I'd chose the sub, but I'd much prefer an Omega for other choices. Plant Ocean just a tad out of my comfort range on size. I do like the features of it though, even if they don't get used. With the Sub and the Plant Ocean, I still haven't fallen in love with the ceramic bezels yet personally. Maybe I'll change my mind once I get to see them in person. I actually don't like the maxi dial either. It's subtle but it would slowly eat away at me if I had it on my wrist everyday. Great too see you back in action! welcome back dude
The Oyster case, uhh, Oyster "only" means it's water resistant and that is has a screw down crown and screw in back. Not how deep it goe's or what shape the case have....
I had a sub c black and hulk but also owned the planet ocean that you show here and the blue one on the rubber. Now I have the orange bezel PO and I like it over Rolex by a lot. It’s just different
It should be compared like this: Submariner Vs Seamaster 300M, Planet Ocean Vs Deepsea, Daytona Vs Speedmaster Professional, Globe Master Vs Rolex Day Date, Constellation Vs Datejust etc
Own both. The Omega is a better and more advanced watch all price being equal. I find Rolex is coasting and now way over rated at their current price point. I own many Rolex watches and I'll just say they are now not worth the current money. They just are not. I'll save those that really want the best diver regardless of price, get the new Omega PO. The only redeeming quality of Rolex now is their resale value .
Inside the bezel...it's 100% Omega. The dial, hands, the logo, painted second hand, all play off each other so well. The bezel though, case, it's all Rolex with the smaller, tighter numbers, lower profile. Either one is a winner though.
Rolex have sold their watches from a snobbery view point with no interest in customers lower down the food chain. On the other hand you have Omega who build the same quality for their customers minus the greed. I have both a date sub and the Seamaster 300 (plus a planet ocean), and for me Omega's Seamaster 300 wins hands down. This beautiful watch has presence without looking at the name 'Rolex' which lets face it is the main selling point over the actual watch itself. At the price the Seamaster is going for at the moment you'd be crazy not to buy one. Ok you may take a small lose selling it, but since Rolex are now ,leaving us mortals behind, you have to wonder which watch will replace the Submariner. Even though my sub is worth more I get far more enjoyment from wearing my Seamaster (which actually gets more favourable comments about) than my sub. They say Rolex know how to sell watches, but Omega know how to make them......this is so true.
I think with Rolex's -1 to +1 sec/day, it becomes hard to choose anything else. (Unless you get one losing time.) However I don't really like any of the Rolex's that much. If you get lucky with an Omega at +1 sec/day, then you did good. Better plus than negative time per day, no matter what. Hence that makes Omega's master certification a plus point.
In the metal the omega is just so much more impressive . Sold my 2018 brought in new omega po for half the price . My opinion twice the watch half the price ...
The rolex submariner is a beautiful piece, with a timeless design,,,but it's still a snooze fest and expensive. A lot of money to spend in order to be bored after a short while. I bought this exact planet ocean and have no regrets.
@@JANTHONYCHANNEL I just paid $4,595.00 for my new Omega Planet Ocean model #21530442103001. Same watch as shown in this video with 43.5MM case but with the blue face and dial. It's half the cost of a Rolex with the same quality.
I wish they could combine all the best of both watches 300 and Planet Ocean. I have both and a sub. I love the Seamaster 300 as my daily. I wish it had the case of the 300, the arrow hands and dial of PO and the smaller HE of the old 2500 watch all in a 13.7mm thick watch. Then add the PO bracelet as an option and it blows away the sub. The AR coating is a step above in all lighting vs the sub. Makes a big difference to me.
If this was a comparison between the Rolex 16610 and the planet ocean the Rolex would win, the new Rolex look is like a WWII tank, to bulky in the lugs which makes the dial look to small and out of proportion. The 16610 and 16613 were a perfect blend of sport/dress watches. The Omega PO looks more elegant and in my opinion has better build quality.
Omega better movement but bit top heavy but the weight dose give it a sense of real quality.. obviously bit cheaper to.. rolex is perfectly balanced and obviously kinda an investment.. they are quite common.. loads of fakes going around.. I'd say both are worth owning. I think the omega is for a big strong successfull fella who appreciates accuracy.. also the case on the planet ocean is very similar to the speedmaster cases on the shoulders wear it tampers down in chrome very very nice touch some of them pieces sell for upto half mill.. 👏 👍
A PITA to set the date in this Omega. You need to move the hour hand 24 times forward or backward to move one day on the date window. No quick date set. Who needs to change the hour hand in 1 hour increments if not moving between time zones? They get rid of a useful feature by introducing a pointless one. I own one of the latest Speedy's with the 9900 cal., same thing, so annoying. I sometimes leave the date unset.

I have a Cameron deep sea, and just plopped down for the 43.5 planet ocean in white face and orange dial, its pretty nice actually 👌 omega is no joke...
Personally went with the sea dweller 40mm instead. After wearing awhile and then picking up my polar or batman, I kind of understand why people dislike the cyclops as this SD slowly grows on me
The Rolex strap is so much nicer, especially where it meets the bezel
I own the Planet ocean 45mm.... It looks much better on my large wrist and I love the small date window over that cyclops nonsense. If I did get a submariner I would get the no date version. I am looking at the Rolex Explorer non GMT with no date....That watch can dress up and down and does not weigh a ton like my Seamaster does!
This comparison is being done almost every other day now on RUclips. Answer - 114060 >.
Steven which one can someone buy new today at or below MSRP?
Hey, you are back on Track 👍
which one is „thicker“ ?
I own a PO2500C 45.5 and a SD43. The first one cost me 1,550 pounds in 2005, the second one 10,450 euros in 2017. For the money, the PO is far ahead. However, the SD43 is a better watch if money is no object.
I also love the orange highlights
I'd have to go with Omega it seems like everybody's got a Rolex the Omega would compliment my Tudor black Bay Steel and I just really like omegas Style looking to get a constellation globemaster I just think it's a far better watch than anything Rolex puts out personal opinion though
Jarod I agree. I don't wantbwhatv"everyone" else wants.
Omega all day long 😁
The watch geek in me says Planet Ocean but the investor says Submariner.
Thanks Julian, I love the ceramic. I’m curious what you’d make of it if you saw it in person.
Omega is the best, COSC and METAS Certifications.
The Oyster case, uhh, Oyster "only" means it's water resistant and that is has a screw down crown and screw in back. Not how deep it goe's or what shape the case have....
Great video, J. I would take the PO, for the great looks combined with the tech.
I would prefer the Planet Ocean, cause I like the look better than the look of the Sub and the movement of Omega is the better one.
I had a sub c black and hulk but also owned the planet ocean that you show here and the blue one on the rubber. Now I have the orange bezel PO and I like it over Rolex by a lot. It’s just different
PO is a sexy watch but the Circular markers on the Rolex are to die for
Love both, but Omega for me. In looking at the PO for my first luxury watch. The Rolex’s dial just seems too crammed.
It should be compared like this: Submariner Vs Seamaster 300M, Planet Ocean Vs Deepsea, Daytona Vs Speedmaster Professional, Globe Master Vs Rolex Day Date, Constellation Vs Datejust etc
@Vox Optimatium youre right and then Deepsea vs plofprof
Nice! Good to see videos from you again!
Thank you!
Planet Ocean thick to you? Thanks.
Mine is running with 1-2 second variance, can’t complain.
Omega all day long.
Wow been away for so long!
Omega Seamaster 300m is the one to compare. Basel 2018 model from Omega.
Yes, the 300m is the more classic of the Omegas.
Solid point, I’ve reviewed one of those as well.
@@JANTHONYCHANNEL either that or review the PO to the seadweller...
Proud owner of the Omega P.O
In the metal the omega is just so much more impressive . Sold my 2018 brought in new omega po for half the price . My opinion twice the watch half the price ...
The rolex submariner is a beautiful piece, with a timeless design,,,but it's still a snooze fest and expensive. A lot of money to spend in order to be bored after a short while.
I bought this exact planet ocean and have no regrets.
Great video. Could you give price ranges. Also Omega use to have best commercials with Sasha Cohen skating in a black catsuit.
Used...figure $9k for the Rolex and $4k for the Omega.
J. ANTHONY Thanks
@@JANTHONYCHANNEL I just paid $4,595.00 for my new Omega Planet Ocean model #21530442103001. Same watch as shown in this video with 43.5MM case but with the blue face and dial. It's half the cost of a Rolex with the same quality.
I can't decide between a planet Ocean or Seamaster 300
I wish they could combine all the best of both watches 300 and Planet Ocean. I have both and a sub. I love the Seamaster 300 as my daily. I wish it had the case of the 300, the arrow hands and dial of PO and the smaller HE of the old 2500 watch all in a 13.7mm thick watch. Then add the PO bracelet as an option and it blows away the sub. The AR coating is a step above in all lighting vs the sub. Makes a big difference to me.
Nice video, Omega do make the Planet Ocean in a 39.5mm version as well.
If the planet ocean was smaller, it would be better.
Do they? I guess I have never seen one of those...That is a much better size!
The PO 39.5 is also thinner at 14mm
The 43.5 is very easy to wear on a small wrist because of its shape and lug design, and has great presence.
Have both , both beautiful watches . If you can get over the I have a Rolex look at me snobbery then the Omega is a better watch
Can someone pls confirm the reference number for the omega?
If this was a comparison between the Rolex 16610 and the planet ocean the Rolex would win, the new Rolex look is like a WWII tank, to bulky in the lugs which makes the dial look to small and out of proportion. The 16610 and 16613 were a perfect blend of sport/dress watches. The Omega PO looks more elegant and in my opinion has better build quality.
I preferred the POs when they had red insted of orange, like on the second hand, and text on the dial.
I think orange has now been the adopted PO color.
How odd the title was which is better but he says “I am not getting in to which is better “
Good video.. Thank you
I'd get the Rolex ONLY because I don't like the arrow hands on the Omega
Im the opposite i dont like the seiko Mercedes hands..........really boring
The cyclops is what gives Rolex the win over omega. If omega had a cyclops omega would be the winner for sure
It doesn't matter which watch is the best, which one do you want?
The Omega looks gorgeous, the Rolex looks too square and the magnified date window looks stupid.
Same here with my Speedy 9900, I leave the date unset unless it's only a few days off. I own the first PO2500C 45.5, no such problem.
