    Its a pretty easy job . I expected it do be a bigger project when I did it .
    It was more work when I put shrink wrap down the wiresin the shaft to protect them from the 2 bolt holes I drilled in shaft for the mount in pod of my kayak . After that , I sprayed foam down the shaft to help waterproof it . I mounted switches on outside of my pod so I would have emergency controls if the pwm went out . Doing good so far . On the 3rd year and pwm has not failed .
    The reason I put it in pod was because I dont always use motor , but always use rudder . So worked better for me to have in pod so I can pull it out when not needed .
    After using it for a year and pwm not failing , I ran wiring thru the hull .

I was wondering how to do this as I plan on using a trolling motor (prob MK Endura 30!) on a little 14 ft sailboat with a LifePO4 lithium battery for aux power. It may need to be cut down. Your videos are awesome! Another question that I came across. I want to extend the trolling motor wires after I cut the shaft. I looked at the black and red wires coming out of the shaft, and it looks like they are 14 AWG wires. What AWG should I use if I wanted to connect/splice the wire to make them longer? Should I stick to 14 AWG, or can I use 12 AWG, which I have sitting around from some jumper cables? Do you think that will work? Any concerns with using the 12 AWG cable with the 14 AWG cables coming out of the shaft? Thanks!!!

    • @334tacticaloutdoors
      @334tacticaloutdoors  Год назад +1

      First off thank you, the red and black wire is actually 10 AWG and if you’re only extending it about 4’ or less just use 10AWG if you’re going over 4’ use 8AWG.
