Staining a Wrapped Drum

I'd been wanting to remove the wrap off this bargain drum kit and stain it.
I started with this 10" tom and love how it turned out. Should I do it to the whole 5 piece kit?

There's loads of blotches, unfortunately. It would've looked 10x better if you applied Wood Conditioner after sanding them down and then the Wood Stain. Lastly, Tung Oil as the final coat.
