    Back in the 1990s Disney games used to be pretty good. Unlike nowadays, Disney were more than happy to license their characters out so that talented game studios like Capcom and SEGA could make excellent games out of their movies and beloved characters.
    In this video I want to focus on Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck and discuss five really fun Disney games I have fond memories of. I hope you enjoy and please do share your Disney gaming memories!
    Chapters :-
    0:00 Introduction
    1:07 Castle of Illusion
    5:02 Quackshot
    9:50 World of Illusion
    14:07 Mickey Mania
    18:00 Maui Mallard

    My favorite 90s Disney games would be the Magical Quest trilogy by Capcom. The costume mechanic was really cool and the addition of costume upgrades and heart containers encouraged exploring the surprisingly large levels.

      Thanks for the comment, sounds great, I'll have to try them out. Back when Capcom did some amazing Disney games.

      @duffman18 2 года назад

      @@JohnnyVector the last 2 of that trilogy were only released in Japan if I remember right. But they're not particularly text heavy games, so they're still perfectly playable despite everything being in Japanese
      I don't like them as much as a mega drive ones, but maybe that's my nostalgia talking. Castle of Illusion, World of Illusion, and Quackshot are my favourites
      I also love the master system Mickey Mouse games. I never played those as a kid but I love them anyway. They're very blatant rip offs of the Ducktales games, but that's not a bad thing. Literally they play exactly the same as Ducktales for the NES, including the bouncing mechanic. And even the level design. The first level looks almost exactly like the jungle level in Ducktales, complete with a route that goes underground very near the start of the level, just like Ducktales. Oh and even the treasure chests look almost identical to the treasure chests in Ducktales. And the HUD looks the same too.
      But the other 2 mickey mouse games for master system, Land of Illusion and Legend of Illusion, are also great. There's also 2 Donald duck games for the master system but I haven't played those yet

  • @Elementa2006
    @Elementa2006 2 года назад +1

    I think the closest thing to Maui Mallard in Cold Shadow concept being used in Disney projects are the European (mostly Italian) Disney comics starring Donald Duck. Firstly being Paperinik (Duck Avenger) Donald's costumed hero alter ego that's extremely popular in Europe especially in Italy where the concept originated (it was despite by popular Italian comic anti-hero Diabolik which you might mostly remember for the 1968 film adaptation, which was lampooned on the final episode of the original Mystery Science Theatre 3000), series starring this alter ego are still being published today and translated to different languages including English and Arabic. Another popular Italian Donald series is Double Duck, where Donald has a second identity as a secret agent.

    Fantastic video, I have to say I am really enjoying your content, especially just how much you are experimenting to find your style.
    I hate to do this though, but I need to talk about how this video subject reminded me of another youtuber and how as I get older, I get more worried about this.
    There was a youtuber called HappehLemons and years ago he did a video about all of the Mickey Mouse games and it was fantastic. I became a really big fan of his content, but then he just kind of disappeared. The same happened with a youtuber i LOVED called Nice and Games.
    And I started thinking about how this is going to start to become a problem. I dont really watch TV so most of the stuff I watch is on youtube because I love hearing things about things I'm interested in. But unlike TV, if someone dies or quits, or just moves onto something else, you dont really get to find out. They just tend to disappear. I think because RUclips is still in the grand scheme of things pretty new, people havent experienced it yet, but we will have to start to tackle this problem. Yes, we will probably find out if AVGN decided to quit, or if Game Grumps ends. But what about those small creators? What if they suddenly pass away? Will their relatives even know to tell us?
    Sorry to bring this up in a video about Disney games haha, but it just reminded me how much I miss that youtuber and that its going to get worse.

      Thanks for the lengthy comment! It's a relatable worry. I've been watching people's RUclips videos since 2008 or so and I've experience plenty of channels disappearing for seemingly no reason. It's not nice. It can be disorienting, but at least there are constantly new people to find.

    have you played The Great Circus Mystery starring Mickey and Minnie? this Genesis/SNES game was my jam as a kid. it’s easier than other Disney related games and costume changing gimmick is fun. I also remember playing some kinda random Goofy game… don’t even know what is’s called, I don’t think many people remember it.

      @@JohnnyVector I decided to look up both games and turned out the Mickey game is actually a sequel to Mickey’s Magical Quest. never heard of it and never played it, so the more you know. it also has costumes, but it’s single player only. and the coolest part about Circus was the coop, I would rent this game many times and bother my mom to play it with me lol
      and Goofy game is not related to the cartoon, it’s just a random third party developed platformer called Goofy’s Hysterical History Tour. and hoo boy, it’s just as wacky as I remember. but what else could one expect from a Goofy game?

    I actually used her own Maui Mallard as a kid. Admittedly, the game was quite difficult. But that only made finally beating it in the end all the more satisfying. The reason Mickey does a butt bounce in Castle of Illusion is because Disney thought that him stopping on his enemies was too violent. Also Extra Lives where changed to Extra Tries was because Disney didn't like the idea of Mickey "dying".

    I grew up with video games starting with my brothers atari 2600 when I was about six or seven yrs old. I can not express what video games meant to me throughout my adolescence. Seeing these games again I'm reminded of what video games meant to me at that time, and I feel a strange and very deep sense of loss. Given the current state of the AAA video game industry I long for these games that had outstanding visuals alongside fun and intuitive gameplay. While the visuals have far exceeded my younger selves expectations, games have sacrificed both gameplay and fun for the sake of graphical fidelity. Modern video games pursue an immersive cinematic experiences, quite often at the expense of gameplay. I expect different things from a movie and a video game, and I'd prefer that video games take a page from these Disney "kids" games; and prioritize gameplay with a healthy dose of imaginative visuals.

      Bubsy is only good if you're using save states. They made a super fast game that was trying to be a sonic clone, yet had 1-hit deaths, and fall damage if you land on something from too great a height. In a game about speed that is absolutely ridiculous. It's fine with save states. But any other way is just maddening to play. That's what every sonic clone got wrong. Sonic was fast but also in a sense invincible. As long as you had rings you couldn't die, and even when you got hit you could quickly collect some back. Every other sonic clone tried to use a Mario style health system which just doesn't work in a sonic style game. If you make it that way, then there's no speed in the game at all, because you have to tip toe everywhere so as to not die in one hit
