The peace of spring after a cold, rainy Vancouverite winter when you're cooped up in your house all day because it nearly always rains, the liberation that's felt when you finally exit the doors of your house, and the high note when you go to sleep feeling refreshed.. this piece perfectly embodies a (late) spring day.

that pause on 0:22 reminds me of fkj ; of course with the overall style of the chords used 7th and 9th... (neo soul).
You have good functional harmony in you. you have an ear for how it should go. i like how you change the rhythm of the accompaniment to keep it interesting.
i also noticed that the piano roll is different from what we actually hear ?
I would also suggest (as a phrasing exercice) that you take maybe 2 simple chords and try to develop a single melody on top of them (singing on top of them) while holding it in your memory. Then choosing one idea and keep developing on it
Know that the entire classical repertoire (from the 1500 to the 1900) was composed of only 3 chords maybe 4. the Beauty of music is taking a small idea and developing on it without loosing the core theme. This is easier said than done of course, because it takes cognitive effort to hold the melodies in memory and keep developing.
playing chords has its place in fucntional harmony but without a main theme, its all a blue mood.
Animé music is another great example of amazing melodies with simple chords. try transcribing the phrases and see how they develop them.
And do not expect from yourself to write amazing things from only one sitting. The best way is to think of an idea and then develop it throughout the day and throughout the week (by coming back to it). 30 min writing then coming back. the "coming back" is the most important cognitive part. Because you would have given your brain room to consolidate the theme or idea you memorized. The brain works better when you give it space.
Don't give up, keep singing and composing. you have a good taste and talent. keep developing on them. I hope i was not too critical in writing this. i wish you all the luck

i 100% agree, i need to practice keeping the core theme in mind. i think i get a little caught up thinking that my songs can't be repetitive, but it just has the effect of making my songs directionless. it's become an issue i find myself running into a lot, so i'll definitely take the time to step back and analyze the work of others.
and i'll try experimenting with your process of coming up with ideas! i haven't really considered giving my brain time to consolidate my ideas. luckily, i don't have to commit as much of my ideas to memory with the help of my DAW.
i really appreciate you taking the time to write this! this is great advice!

i want to make music like that but im too lazy to learn music theory 😭😭

    • @daireks
      @daireks  6 месяцев назад +1

you could definitely make something like this, with some practice!
there were some moments where i was thinking about theory, like at 0:10 with the diminished chord inversion (i wanted to add a little more color), or the slower part at 0:45 (i wanted to call back to the beginning motif again, so i key changed to the original tonic with passing chords)
but other than that, i find that a lot of my decisions aren't really rooted in theory. usually, i'm just following my ears and experimenting. if i ever do use theory, its usually pretty basic!

im not sure if i'm the best person to ask! only recently has the yt algorithm been a little bit kinder to me 🥲
anyways, i'd recommend adding keywords like "FL Studio" and the instruments/vsts you are using in the description, creating hashtags, and using youtube's tag system. i also believe youtube favors creators who upload consistently, like maybe once/twice a week. i've had some success in the past with that, but I haven't done that in a while.
but overall, i suggest not letting getting views be your main goal! i think focusing on improving your craft much more valuable :)
