    Thanks for helping me to distinguish between the different models without having to go into a store right away.

    Is the Turbo model meant to feel lighter? I find the accelerator to be quite heavy feeling, obviously this is a characteristic with all DW pedals, but especially more so with the 5000's. When I purchased my AD4 5000 series I did not try the Turbo's and I'm just wondering if there is a major difference in this regard. Amazing pedals either way!

      I kicked this one to Ethan because he knows much more about these pedals than I do! "Hi Jay, I am not sure if the turbo was designed as a lighter alternative to the accelerator. If you are seeking a lighter pedal I would recommend trying a different beater such as the Dwsm103. I personally feel that the turbo cam allows for a direct relationship with the beater. It feels more direct as compared to the accelerator. In any case please contact us and we can help with anything you need."

    Very clear explanation. Thanks.
    PS. What're the benefits of stepping up to the 9000 series?

    • @bostondrum

      Thanks for watching. The 9000 has an adjustable cam which morph from Turbo to Accelerator, and assume any shape in between. It can also accommodate a nylon strap, which is included.
      The 9000 felt smoother to me than previous versions of the 5000, possibly because of the 9000 spring design (note that the spring is inside of the tower instead of outside, which may also make it more durable). But the 5000's new pivot point has helped to close that gap, in my opinion.
      I hope this helps!

      Boston Drum Center Thanks. This helps a lot. I’ve already purchased one. Great pedal, very light and smooth feeling for my foot.

      I have owned the 9000 series and the 5000 series. The 9000 series to me was too clunky when it came to the massive CAM. The 5000 series are more streamlined and straight to the point. In the 5000 series I prefer the original round Turbo sprocket. The Accelerator kind of just lobs the beater at the bass drum head and you feel like you don't have total control of the throw.

    Does anyone know why DW calls it a toe clamp when everybody else calls it a hoop clamp?

    Hi there. I can see this is an older video, but thought I would try my luck. Would you suggest the DW 5000 turbo for newer players, as having control is important for beginners?

    • @bostondrum
      @bostondrum  2 года назад

      That makes sense. But learning on an Accelerator cam wouldn't necessarily result in bad habits or anything. If the goal is to play a genre or style in which the added speed of the Accelerator would be a benefit, I'd recommend getting it right out of the gate.

  • @marcocorona5422

    Are there any pedals that are Xf with turbo?
    Great video btw, it really cleared up my confusion!

    • @bostondrum
      @bostondrum  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching. Technically the XF only comes with the Accelerator cam, but we could get you one with the Turbo. DW used to assemble pedals to order in situations like this, and they may still do so, but we haven't needed it in a couple of years. If necessary, we could swap out the cam here.

      @@bostondrum Would you recommend to go your suggested way or get the 9000 Xf with the interchangeable modes?

    • @bostondrum
      @bostondrum  2 года назад

      @@marcocorona5422 Right, the 9000 cam can do Turbo, Accelerator, or anything in between. There's another thread in this comment section about 5000 vs. 9000: I like both, but some people prefer the lighter, more tactile 5000. I hope this helps.

    What are the differences between the 3 and the 4 gen? As the left-hand model only comes as 3 model.

    • @bostondrum
      @bostondrum  9 месяцев назад

      Ethan covers the upgrades from the third generation to the fourth from around 0:22 to 0:44 in the video. So the previous model had velcro instead of the non-slip surface on the underside, a fixed mount for the base of the spring, and a regular jaw-type hoop clamp.

    I have a set of Ludwigs that I bought new in 1969. I play them all the time. I bought a DW 5000 and the pedal has to go 10 degrees beyond vertical before it hits the head. I’ve asked around what to do. Looked for a different beater but none fix the problem. I don’t want to take a grinder to the hoop unless I have to. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    • @bostondrum
      @bostondrum  4 года назад

      Well, is the problem that the pedal isn't going far enough onto the hoop? And if so, is it the width or thickness of the hoop that's preventing it?

    • @rayfabbri3759
      @rayfabbri3759 4 года назад

      @@bostondrum the pedal is all the way on to the stop on the clamping device. The hoop is wide the pedal won’t go on any farther. Original stock hoop.

    • @bostondrum
      @bostondrum  4 года назад +1

      @@rayfabbri3759 If you can't raise the resonant side enough to compensate and you don't want to notch the hoop, you could try a Dixson riser or a replacement hoop. Gibraltar hoops are cheap and pretty narrow, and that would let you set aside the original to retain the resale value of the kit.

    • @rayfabbri3759
      @rayfabbri3759 4 года назад

      @@bostondrum Thanks for the help. I thought maybe there was an adjustment to the cam or something like that.
      I’ve been playing these for 52 years and I don’t care about the resale value. I will grind the hoop. I will probably have this set cremated with me when I go. LoL. Thanks.

    • @bostondrum
      @bostondrum  4 года назад +1

      @@rayfabbri3759 You could adjust the throw a bit, but I think it will feel weird regardless if it's travelling that far past 90 degrees. I'll message Ethan (the expert in the video) and let you know if he has a suggestion. Thanks for watching.

      The footboard (where it says "5000") is longer on the XF model. It gives you more leverage and/or just more room if you have a larger foot. Thanks for watching.
