Get the OP-1 Drum Utility: xfer-freeware.s3.amazonaws.com/OP1DrumUtilityOSX_102.zip xfer-freeware.s3.amazonaws.com/OP1DrumUtilityPC_101.zip 1) Process (pitch, time, slice) your samples in your DAW. 2) Export or save those changes however you want. 3) Convert your samples to 44.1kHz 16bit mono AIF files. 4) Create kits using the OP-1 Drum Utility. 5) Connect your OP-1 to your computer with a USB cable. 6) Put the OP-1 into Disk Mode by hitting Shift+Com and hitting "Disk". 7) When the OP-1 mounts as a drive, drag kits made with the Drum Utility into a custom folder in the OP-1 folder "Drum". Drag anything you want the OP-1 synth Sampler to play into a custom folder within "Synth". 8) On the OP-1, hit the key under "OP-1" on the display to unmount the drive and save your new samples. 9) Have fun.
I don't export them, I just drag the 4 tape tracks into Ableton for processing. Check out the Ableton Walkthrough playlist on my channel for more info.
There in stock now, apply yourself to apply your wealth my friends, I ate trail mix for an entire month no lie to get mine and I’ve seen making bangerz since and I got one this year
Damn it...the big A had a pretty good price for a short time so I ordered it back in February...waiting since then...and you keep teasing me with your awesome videos aiFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF :)
Thanks mang. Timely; OP-1 just arrived this morning. "Glockenspeil?" WTF was I thinking, of COURSE it is a music box sample. Still makes me feel special, almost like a ballerina. Maybe the ballerina specialness will arrive--in time. Counting the minutes until I can start playing tonight. Appreciate ya and all your effort. Make more music.... they are lovely.
+Red Means Recording Not sure if you've made that on purpose (or even noticed for that matter) but the sounds you play in the tutorial song EXACTLY match Daft Punk's 'Something About Us'. Made my day.
Great video..Steve Duda was the guy that wrote the OP-1 drum utility program its on the Xfer Records site edit: I just saw the part where you gave him props. :)))
I got my OP-1 today, and thank you for being such a boss and helping me through this soundvoyage I'm partaking in! Nice tutorial, I kind of remembered that I had to connect, but unsure where I could put all them shmexy folders! :D
Thanks for the video. I would love to see how you resample while working on the op1 to overcome the 4 tracks "limitation". There are a few ways I know of, would be awesome to see your workflow. Thanks!
I'll try and make a video specifically about it, but I've talked about it in some of the Ableton Walkthrough channels in the Ableton Walkthrough playlist on my channel.
Additional tip: Instead of using soundforge (awesome progam) doing them all one at a time. There is a program called Allok video audio converter. You can drag all the files you want to use (any audio type besides flac) into a folder. The drag the entire contents of the folder into Allok. Choose "AIFF Mono' as your converted type. choose "Delete original files" then click "convert" and it will go through the entire folder and convert everything and delete the original files in one shot. You can do a whole folder of stuff in seconds. Saves a lot of time when converting a bunch of files. I use it al the time. Thanks for the tips! Excited to get an OP1 soon.
Another quick tip. In soundforge...instead of doing the convert bit rate then save as and choosing all your setting in soundforge each time for every samples. you can select all then "copy" then hit command N for new file. Right there you will be promped to choose the settings for that file. Choose 16 bit mono. Then click ok. Hit paste and paste the sample into the new file and it will ask if youd like to combine the left and right channel into mono. click yes. Then just save as AIFF. now every time you copy and paste into a new file those settings will be defaulted so you just click ok ok ok ok . then paste...then save again. Im pretty sure it remembers all your save settings too. Still for a bunch of files ALLOK is quick AF. drag all the files in. choose the render file type. choose delete original sample. click convert and it will go through everything convert and replace.
I forgot that the op only has 12 seconds, that’s why years ago i went with the octatrack. Frugality has taught me that there is indeed an infinity in ten seconds.
Recently got an OP-1, and have watched a ton of your awesome OP-1 videos. Has your workflow for getting samples onto it changed at all? The Drum Utility still seems to be the most convenient way.
Saved for future reference, thanks 🙂 You should make some kind of affiliate link thing happen, so you can make some cash on side from all the op-1s you're selling 😌
Street Mobster very different. Get the sample. The tonic is a synth, not a sampler. You don't need anything to add samples to the volca where you need microtonic to send sounds to the PO
Awesome, thank you for the nice tutorial. Any chance you could put those Rhodes, Flutes samples into a google drive or other to share? They sound great.
You're awesome and I appreciate you. Because of all your incredible OP-1 videos, I finally decided to take the plunge and get one! Also, I know this video is old, but here is a link to the standalone drum utility that is compatible with OSX Catalina. Thanks!!! xferrecords.com/freeware
Not having an OP-1, yet. Fiddling with the arcade and the robot next. OP-1 after that. When invoices have been paid and I have some time to actually play with it. Still watched it. What ableton color scheme is that?
Can you you consolidate and chop files in any DAW or is this going to be easiest in Ableton? Just picked up an OP-1 now I won't have the cash for Ableton for awhile but I do have Logic and Maschine software.
that would be pretty fun. i know at trade shows they usually are showing off prototypes so they have someone from the company doing it. as for performance at gear conferences... maybe? i dunno!
This might be a novice question, but does installing a new sample replace existing samples and how much space does the op-1 have to install additional samples?
I don't know anything about the OP-1 and such, so this might be a dumb question. Can you plug in a microphone and record audio via the OP-1? It'd be really cool if you could record things and make samples and loops right away.
I got myself an OP-1 some weeks ago but have little experience of playing piano keys. whats the best way to learn this when you specifically want to play the OP-1? and how did you learn playing?
i learned how to play a keyboard by messing around on an old upright piano my parents had in the house when i was young. then i moved to learning how to play other people's songs, usually by ear. the best way to learn how to play is practice.
Use the transpose function (arrow keys) on the OP-1 to move octaves or use a MIDI controller with more than 25 keys hooked up to the OP-1 (with a computer or USB->MIDI host).
I haven't tested it, but the main things the DAW needs to do for you here is: 1) be able to make and export samples/loops 2) host the Drum Utility VST and allow for drag and drop You will still need to convert your samples to 44.1 16 aif mono samples for the OP-1 to use them properly.
Just ordered my OP-1. Thanks for the inspiration. Totally looking forward to buyers remorse and the severe disappointment of being only to create rubbish tunes because I have no background with chords on a keyboard. But then maybe that won't happen. I can always record my farts into the mic.
+Stupid Robot Fighting League don't worry too much about that. Chord progressions are easy to learn and you can program the op-1 to play them back for you if you want.
Thanks man. You missed making the point that I could also use my face. BTW, I don't understand what consolidate does. Cheers. Did I say I ordered my OP-1. AMPED!!!! Have you ever sampled farts?
In Ableton consolidate is like a mini-export in the DAW. It takes things like pitch and quantize and timing changes and, well, consolidates them to a new file. It doesn't do anything with the effects on the channel, but it creates a new audio file at the BMP of the session with any other of the aforementioned changes and commits it to disk.
Red Means Recording thank so much for your time on answering my question. You did however skip the most important question. So have you ever sampled farts?
Get the OP-1 Drum Utility:

3) Convert your samples to 44.1kHz 16bit mono AIF files.
4) Create kits using the OP-1 Drum Utility.
5) Connect your OP-1 to your computer with a USB cable.
6) Put the OP-1 into Disk Mode by hitting Shift+Com and hitting "Disk".

thanks for the work. there is now a password for the mac version on mega.nz :/
Siegfried Maps let me fix that if I can
Siegfried Maps xfer-freeware.s3.amazonaws.com/OP1DrumUtilityPC_101.zip
xfer-freeware.s3.amazonaws.com/OP1DrumUtilityOSX_102.zip
Do you export each track separately into Ableton?
I don't export them, I just drag the 4 tape tracks into Ableton for processing. Check out the Ableton Walkthrough playlist on my channel for more info.
This is definitely the best OP-1 video on the internet.
Bro honestly. When he said don’t let your dreams be dreams jus put that shit in 16 bit aiffffffffffffff i felt that.

Jeremy you're the man! This is exactly what I needed to get going with my OP-1.
awesome!
Thanks mang. Timely; OP-1 just arrived this morning. "Glockenspeil?" WTF was I thinking, of COURSE it is a music box sample. Still makes me feel special, almost like a ballerina. Maybe the ballerina specialness will arrive--in time.

+Red Means Recording Not sure if you've made that on purpose (or even noticed for that matter) but the sounds you play in the tutorial song EXACTLY match Daft Punk's 'Something About Us'. Made my day.
Great tip to back up the entire op1 drive for each project
I don't even have a OP-1 but I watched. And enjoyed it. I guess it is like that Tai Lopez meme: knaaawledge... :-)
Haha, awesome. :)
that video was clutch. love the song you played on the keys there too lol
Great video..Steve Duda was the guy that wrote the OP-1 drum utility program its on the Xfer Records site
edit: I just saw the part where you gave him props. :)))
Wait, didn't I say that in the video? haha.
+Ave Mcree ;)

outro is the best 😂👌, thanks for explaining in detail really good!
I got my OP-1 today, and thank you for being such a boss and helping me through this soundvoyage I'm partaking in! Nice tutorial, I kind of remembered that I had to connect, but unsure where I could put all them shmexy folders! :D

Well that thoroughly answers my exact question, so thank you for that.
:)
Super helpful, crystal clear explanation with flair and great sense of humor! What more could you need?
piles of gold and an ocelot.
Ha!, Excellent choice sir.... and an OP-1 of course...
Thanks for this, really big help for a new op1 user
The 44.1 16bit song, reminded me I needed to like this video. AIFFFFF
Don’t let your dreams be dreams

+Ian Haskell 😸
Thanks dude, that was wonderful.
Thanks man would love to see more off these. Appreciate your work.
+Remy Gold anything specific you would like to see? Always curious what people are looking to learn
Hey man I am about to get one so any kind of sampling videos would do as I love that style of beats.
You made the X-Files reference while I was watching it :)
Brilliant Jeremy! -Jeremy
Hope you have a nice day frens
Using a PC? That's like a babies toy! J/K this is a great tutorial. All I need now is an OP-1.
:)
Wow you are truly a wizard Jeremy. I wish I could be accepted into the Hogwarts school of sound engineering.
Dear red means recording,
I need this song, it's giving me wøw vibes.
Thank you from me,
A fan,
Bai
Thanks for the video. I would love to see how you resample while working on the op1 to overcome the 4 tracks "limitation". There are a few ways I know of, would be awesome to see your workflow. Thanks!
fun fact: i never resample within the op-1
Ah! Nice :) So even more interesting to learn about your workflow!!! :)
I'll try and make a video specifically about it, but I've talked about it in some of the Ableton Walkthrough channels in the Ableton Walkthrough playlist on my channel.
Great, thanks!
Red Means Recording a video on this would be amazing
I love his humor 😂 “do you just put it on there?....idk. Thank you guys for watching!” 💀💀💀

Google "op fun" and check out the patches there!
Red Means Recording thank you!!!!!!! And for that would I have to do everything you did here but for that?
Yup!
Red Means Recording thanks!!!! Love ur vids lol
how can I get all your op-1 samples man!
I forgot that the op only has 12 seconds, that’s why years ago i went with the octatrack. Frugality has taught me that there is indeed an infinity in ten seconds.
I like my samples nice n happy. Thanks So Dreamy Steve Duda. And thanks Jeremy for explaining.
Oh yeah did I mention I don't have an OP1?

Woo you did it!
RED MEANS RIDE HAT
Fabulous. Thanks
Awesome vid as always! Where did you get that lush Rhodes sample from?
I don't recall. I tend to collect samples like crazy. Check out the patch section of operator-1.com to see if it is there.
Thanks man!
Peace. Thanks for your dope vids man. The download link to the Drum Utility for mac is not working. Is it just me?
Check video description, links updated.
Thanks man!
anything that you can turn
into a mono 1416 bit aifffififff mono sample
you can put on the op1
Recently got an OP-1, and have watched a ton of your awesome OP-1 videos. Has your workflow for getting samples onto it changed at all? The Drum Utility still seems to be the most convenient way.
love the track
anything that you can turn

you can put on the op1

I really want one of these
13:40 best part
Saved for future reference, thanks 🙂
You should make some kind of affiliate link thing happen, so you can make some cash on side from all the op-1s you're selling 😌
+Mesut Kaya haha, I would except they are SOLD OUT EVERYWHERE it seems
Red Means Recording: I blame you! 😡👻
Hey Jeremy! What do you think about the Volca lineup? I'm thinking about getting the Volca Sample, but i really don't know...
I would totally get a Volca Sample. They look fun and people seem to love them.
Yes but in my mind seems to do the same job as the po-32, considering that they both have the option of uploading sounds from from the computer
Street Mobster very different. Get the sample. The tonic is a synth, not a sampler. You don't need anything to add samples to the volca where you need microtonic to send sounds to the PO
Got it! Thanks for the advice and congratulations for the videos, as always!
How many samples can this thing hold? Just ordered mine after watching your awesome videos(perfect for my live set up).
Unfortunately this does not work for me... every time I enter the Op1 mode, it loads and stays like this :(
this has to be the most convoluted process of all time..
Awesome, thank you for the nice tutorial. Any chance you could put those Rhodes, Flutes samples into a google drive or other to share? They sound great.
+mcnabb4mvp06 they're not mine, so I would feel weird distributing them. Head on over to operator-1.com and dig through their patch archive.
this might be a dumb question but are the rhodes from the samplified pack aswell?
No, they're not. Not sure where they came from, but if you head on over to operator1.com and look through their patches you may find it!
thanks!
Hello good man, could you help me with the installation, I am not clear about the steps to install it on windos or mac thanks
My bad, I forgot to paste the link. Haha. This works great on OS X 10.15.6
I always think i want an op-1 but then i remember how much skill it takes
Cody May don't let your dreams stay dreams!
PLEASE MAKE A 1 HOUR VERSION OF TENELLOUS!
Also I'm early af
i dont understand what you mean. like, the same song looped over and over for an hour?
hello ! is this still the current process ?
sux ive taken so much time to create my own samples and and what i upload them it said "failed to create" and no samples :(
What note Should our samples be? when using this method. i would assume the default root note is C
Not having an OP-1, yet. Fiddling with the arcade and the robot next. OP-1 after that. When invoices have been paid and I have some time to actually play with it. Still watched it.
What ableton color scheme is that?
Ahh, I don't know off the top of my head. I usually use the LT skin here: pureav.deviantart.com/art/Ableton-Live-9-Skin-589338351
WHOA DeviantArt is still alive?!
haha, TIL
Can you you consolidate and chop files in any DAW or is this going to be easiest in Ableton? Just picked up an OP-1 now I won't have the cash for Ableton for awhile but I do have Logic and Maschine software.
Any DAW will do.
Has Teenage Engineering approached you to demo their gear professionally yet? If not, they're seriously missing out.
that would be pretty fun. i know at trade shows they usually are showing off prototypes so they have someone from the company doing it. as for performance at gear conferences... maybe?
Yes, the OP-1 has a 1/8th-inch input jack for recording sources.
Awesome! Thanks for the fast reply ;)
Am I able to put my OP-1 samples into Ableton?
I’m late, but is the quality noticeably higher than recording straight into the OP-1?
I got myself an OP-1 some weeks ago but have little experience of playing piano keys. whats the best way to learn this when you specifically want to play the OP-1? and how did you learn playing?
i learned how to play a keyboard by messing around on an old upright piano my parents had in the house when i was young. then i moved to learning how to play other people's songs, usually by ear.
the best way to learn how to play is practice.
Red Means Recording thanks for the quick respons. How would you go about playing chords that are out of range? The OP-1 had 25 keys I think
Use the transpose function (arrow keys) on the OP-1 to move octaves or use a MIDI controller with more than 25 keys hooked up to the OP-1 (with a computer or USB->MIDI host).
YOUR FACE IS REVEALED.
THE MAGIC IS RUINED
you're going to hate one of my upcoming videos, then.
I could never hate you even if you are a regular ole person, J-...Jeruhmyy.
Does this work with the Maschine DAW?
I haven't tested it, but the main things the DAW needs to do for you here is:
1) be able to make and export samples/loops
2) host the Drum Utility VST and allow for drag and drop
You will still need to convert your samples to 44.1 16 aif mono samples for the OP-1 to use them properly.
okay so my drum utility doesn't show up on my Ableton 11, what am i missing here?
32 bit vs 64 bit plugin issue
so how do you get the custom folder KIT files to load into the 1-8 kit slots?
Just ordered my OP-1. Thanks for the inspiration. Totally looking forward to buyers remorse and the severe disappointment of being only to create rubbish tunes because I have no background with chords on a keyboard. But then maybe that won't happen. I can always record my farts into the mic.
+Stupid Robot Fighting League don't worry too much about that. Chord progressions are easy to learn and you can program the op-1 to play them back for you if you want.

into the op-1? no.
in general? yes.
soundcloud.com/jeremyblake/novembeat-8
Hey Jeremy, I had an Op-1 and it wasn’t very loud in comparison to my other gear. Is there a way to increase volume?
