Great track, and impressively detailed overview. Really interesting seeing how other people put tracks together, different workflows, and ideas! Thank you!
You are without a doubt one of the most talented producers i have ever had the pleasure of listening to. Keep up the good work, hope i reach your level one day :)
I just came across your channel last night. I love the op1 jamming videos and it was awesome to see how you finish a track in ableton making it more viable as a production tool. Also, your editing is awesome and hilarious
Very instructive video, this is what I've been looking for since a period lived as 1263 centuries ! Thanks for sharing this and man, you're really good !
This is spectacularly detailed, thank you! Just this walkthrough of your production on a single song has taught me more about how to use ableton than all the tutorials I've ever watched on the software o.o Really inspiring work, thanks!
Do you have any info on about how long it takes for you to make a song on the OP-1 and master it in Ableton? Any guess as to what the split is OP1:Ableton?
this was actually pretty interesting to watch. i don't use ableton (FL actually) so this UI is nigh incomprehensible to me, but it's really cool and inspiring to see you adding so many little details to make the track sound so full, for lack of a better word. all the effects and modulation too...my little brain can't handle it! great track too. i'm surprised you aren't signed to a label like Ghostly International, you'd be a perfect fit for them. oh, and thanks for the follow on soundcloud btw
Damn, Ghostly would be amazing. I'm a huge, huge fan of all their stuff. I'm also really stoked you found the walkthrough at all helpful. I'll try and make more like this that dig into more specific production techniques as time allows.
Absolutely amazing result man! Completely amazed how much work you put into it after the OP-1. I'm glad you showed this part (not that I understood anything of it lol) Keep it up!
Thanks Ticho! I thought it was important to show off the other aspect of the process. It's not for everyone, but I hope that it was at least interesting!
Very nice job showing your workflow and techniques. :) Your style reminds me of a perfect blend of Bluetech, Shulman and Tycho. Keep doing what you doing! All the best! :) Subbed!!
Lately I have been trying to make my pieces sounds fuller and "done". How in design I'm a big fan of "less is more", I get the idea that if I do that with music it get's empty feeling and unpolished. Though watching this gives me some ideas to try to fill up empty spots! I'm so glad to see this from you! I am a cheapskate FL Studio user (which I still do love) with tons of VST Plugins. I can get melodies and patterns I like, but It keeps hard to stitch it all together. Cheers!
Being able to really dig in with EQ, compression, and other shaping tools can definitely help your mix sound bigger, fuller, and more present. I definitely end up spending more time cutting than adding, at least after a point, so that the final result can have as much room as possible. Mixing and mastering is still not really my strong suit, but it is a lot of fun! I used to use FL Studio and I know it to be super powerful. I'm sure you can kick butt with it.
Dude! Why didnt you just link me directly to this video lol. Extremely informative, while a lot of things I knew some I didnt and I thank you for that. Although what is usually on your master track?
The project file is chock full of 3rd party plugins... I would have to strip it. But I'll keep it in mind. Definitely would like to do more videos focusing on the post production!
No problem! Honestly any video similar to this where you break down the final mix of a song would be awesome; I think these are the most informative. Love all OP-1 videos too, though!
The music don't disappoint.. not at all. Apologies if it sounded that way. As a new OP-1 owner, I've just been really scratching my head on how you got the level of depth, mix and effects out of it. No worries, just hadn't seen this yet (I'm going backwards). Both the music and still the device are still top notch. And frankly, it doesn't matter how a musician gets from A to B, as long as the end result is pleasing to self.
Should be one of the default 9 options. Not sure off the top of my head, but if you dig through the look presets in the "Look and Feel" section of the preferences you should find it.
Well, when I think of the OP-1 (and fairly TE and other sources may confirm it) there is not much of this "post processing" phase to it; it's a tool by itself that for creativity reasons just won't feel like Ableton or other DAW's. Played with it, love it (beforehand I was doing Ableton and NI for the most part), maybe I'll incorporate some other pieces of gear.
Do you think Ableton is the best editor for you? Would you say that FL Studio/Logic Pro are functionally same but with a different design or do those other editor all bring something of their own to the table?
I started with FL Studio and moved to Ableton. I think they're both very capable, as is Logic. Each one is different, so try demos and see what works for you.
I'm scared that the app's price will come from plug-ins. The bare-bones app will cost, say, $200 but you can't do almost anything. To be capable of making something good it will cost $2000 or something like that :) But I don't really know if that's true; I actually decided to make it my hobby from being inspired by you, but I still have more questions than answers.
I understand, it's daunting to start out. That's why it's good to start with demos of programs and see what you like. Most demos will give you access to all the features, but have some stuff like saving or exporting disabled. FL Studio, Logic, Bitwig, Abelton, Reaper: these are all things you could check out.

awesome thank you jordan
Very nicely informative. Good to see how your process works.
I can't fight it anymore I had to subscribe
Welcome! I hope you enjoy your stay! :)
Yay for seeing the ableton side of things!
Woot! Glad you found it useful!
Very instructive video, this is what I've been looking for since a period lived as 1263 centuries ! Thanks for sharing this and man, you're really good !
haha thanks
I wonder which version of Abelton you use (Standard or Suite). Thanks !
I use Suite for that sweet M4L stuff. And other things.
Ohhh how i not have seen this video before! i always wanted to see you working your stuff on ableton
Fantastic. Your video posted a few weeks ago got me to get on the op-1 again. Love it.
Thank you!
Totally get one!!!!!
I have one. Just put away for a while. (Not any more!) Getting tracks in into Ableton much easier the way you do it.
JD Torian Glad to help. How were you getting your stuff into Ableton?
Dragging the files one at a time. Then thru a bit of warping hell. All a bit bass-akwards. Also not doing more than one think per tape track. Etc.

that's awesome to hear. i will definitely try and do more.

Kingfoot__ 1-2 hours recording with the OP-1. 6-12 hours in Ableton mixing and mastering.
Muy muy bueno Jeremy! Inspirador tambien!
Nice track! Awesome tutorial!
You are amazing, Jeremy.

Cheers!

The voice that you sampled from the record...sounds like Tim Leary. :)
Really great and understandable Tutorial 👍🏼
aawesome trip hop kinda vibes
MAGIC!
This was super helpful. Sounds frickin amazing! The drums sound absolutely wild, is it ableton stock drum samples? I’m a Logic guy myself

Fantastic. Brings back memories of previous summers. Some (positive) similarities to Boards of Canada and Baby Mammoth. :)
Nice! Thank you!
I think if Moby was still creating good music, this is what it would sound like.
Good ole' Moby. Now you're making me want to go on a Moby binge.
good stuff mon
Just surfin the interwebs. Nice vids! Makes me wanna cut/scratch over it with a echo... Dopeness. Hope alls well.
Thanks dude! There's a rad guy who does just that with his OP-1 over here : ruclips.net/channel/UCoT0i4T3r3d4oYkdYQgZ4fg
Dude! Why didnt you just link me directly to this video lol. Extremely informative, while a lot of things I knew some I didnt and I thank you for that. Although what is usually on your master track?
iZotope Ozone. I was rocking 5, but recently upgraded to 7, and it's rocking my world.
0:21 that was the just the funniest thing
i need to get my hands on one of those baby whale toms
baby whale is just the best.
New to Ableton ( Used Cubase before). Any tips ???
Do you think you could make a video on Your Ghost? Or maybe release the project file?
The project file is chock full of 3rd party plugins... I would have to strip it. But I'll keep it in mind. Definitely would like to do more videos focusing on the post production!
Thanks, that song is crazy good and just wanted to see the inner workings. Keep up the videos and amazing content!
Henno Kublin I appreciate the suggestion, for real! Sometimes I don't know what to do next, and it helps to have people suggest things!
No problem! Honestly any video similar to this where you break down the final mix of a song would be awesome; I think these are the most informative. Love all OP-1 videos too, though!
Ok! I'll make some of those! I was thinking of doing one for the OP-1 track I recorded today, but I can dig back into the catalog too.
does the op-1 come with ableton?
it does not, sorry!
Many litle Things. Cool Song
Many for sure. Thanks, Max.
Oh. ... now I get it.
Here I was thinking you did ALL of this in the OP-1. Nope, not so. We end up back in the land of DAW. Boo.
Sorry to disappoint.
The music don't disappoint.. not at all. Apologies if it sounded that way.

Do you usually record your sounds dry (without effects like reverb) on the op-1? Sorry for not watching the prev videos!
Not at all! I will record whatever sounds best in the OP-1 and work with it as is when I import it to Ableton.
what's that ableton dark theme you got goin on?
Should be one of the default 9 options. Not sure off the top of my head, but if you dig through the look presets in the "Look and Feel" section of the preferences you should find it.

+Sean Rimada I never think of any tool as something that only needs to exist in a vacuum. :)
How do you spell that... Dzjuuzj? Geuzge?
Dzjuujzeuzgejzgz

I would pay to watch these monthly if you had them as a Patreon perk!
I want to do them for free, haha, just have to find the time.
Dude, can I download your brain? Just put it up on MEGA or WeTransfer or whatevs.
I can put it on Github!
