To save sample to library. Press the original sample key and hold for 5 seconds and it will save to snapshot library. DONT know why no one ever shows this. Awesome video otherwise I love these deep dive vids on op 1
I never knew how to do this and I’ve had the og op-1 and now the field lmao. Thank you for this tip!
amazing walkthrough as usual!
Thank you! I am glad it seems to help people :)
Yay! I sent a message asking you for this and you delivered!!!!!! ❤
Exactly!
you do the best instruction videos for the OP1 f. Thanks 🙏
Thank you very much for your continued support!
It's always a good time for a Son Wu OP-1 vid
Thanks :)
Great informative video as an intermediate user I even learnt two new tricks!
Nice to hear!
Thanks for a great lesson!
My pleasure! I also offer private lessons, in case you are ever interested ;) ko-fi.com/sonwu/shop
This is very helpful. Thank you.
Cheers!
Very informative, thanks! 🙏
My pleasure!
Superb lesson! Ty😊
My pleasure!
Thank you!
My pleasure!
you sir give a great tutorial. Just got my Op1 and am learning a lot. Thank you! :)
Thank you very much! That's very nice to hear.

@@SONWU thank you! I may do that. Am getting better w/ things but still not all connecting together
Cool, you know where to find me ;) @@arbitrarychemistry
It would be cool if TE added Time Stretch
I think the "line" in the second play mode for drum sample slices stands for 1, as in "one shot" :)
Could be!
please do the Dna synth. Also you can sample any sound and put them in any synth type. Just hit shift and T1 after sampling and can choose. Doing this with the Dna engine is amazing.
Pressing shift and 1 just means that you are now selecting a sound for slot 1.
@@jjxl. Sorry. Its shit + T1 after sampling.
@@jimicrumb3700 That still means you are selecting a new preset for slot 1 :)
@@SONWU It works fine for me. Just select another engine for your sample. Sample something, adjust your sample to your liking, then press shift + T1, or the shift and the memory button your sample is in, then you can choose the synth engine you want from there. You don't change preset, you change synth engine. you won't be able to choose another preset, except for sampled presets. If you play another sound instead of choosing a different synth engine, your sample will be lost.
@@jimicrumb3700 But you can only either use the sampler...or any of the synth engines. You can't combine them…
Thanks for this, very useful as always. when recording drums to the drum sampler, do you think of which drum instrument gets assigned to a specific key? to make the drum kits uniform? would have expected something about this in the tutorial
Sorry for the late reply (I thought I already answered).
I don't often create drumkits for the OP-1, so I haven't dealt with that thought yet :) I usually would use my OP-Z for drums.
Super
Thanks!
17:46 Great vid!! How do you record different A & B samples in the drum sampler? Do you just hard pan the sample source or is there a workflow?
i'd like to know this too!
You can record to the left and the right side of the tape.
Hold shift and turn the red encoder when on the tape screen. This let's you pan your recording!
thank you so much for this tutorial!! could you make one (I didn't find it), about how to create sampler patches for OP-1 field using DAW?
Hey! I don't have a tutorial on that, but if I make synth sampler patches, I usually just make them on the OP-1 directly. If I want to make drums, I use the utility teenage.engineering/apps/drum-utility
@@SONWU thank you!! :D
Son Wu, i love your videos and tutorials. Very intuitive.
i have a question.
I would like to trigger the sequencer of the op-1 field on my minimoog model d 2022. What is the best midi option for you? The midi cable to use?
Thank you very much
🫶🏼
Hi Vincent, thank you for the compliment.
Regarding your question…either some kind of MIDI hub.
OR maybe a cleaner solution could be a bluetooth MIDI adapter that you can plug into your MOOG…the OP-1f already has bluetooth so that should be quite easy.
hello,
I have loaded several some samples to the op-1 field. (with field kit on Mac)
The problem is that at some point, it doesn't charge me anymore.
If I check the op-1 disk with the mac it tells me that it has a capacity of 6.43 GB, and that 5.32 GB remain free.
With all that free space still remaining (the 5.32GB) I don't understand why it doesn't load anymore.....
Great video, thanks very much! Is sampling through the Op1 field line-in less noisy than on the OG Op1?
Probably yes. The OP-1f isn’t very noisy
Can you share that choir pad sample you had on the synth sampler at the beginning of the video? I really liked the sound of it
It's one of the default presets I believe :)
@@SONWU ah very cool, I only have an OG-1 so maybe I can backport it if it doesn’t use the mother effect. Thanks
@@SONWU I haven’t been able to find a upload of any of the stock Field sampler presets, so if you could share still that’d be really cool but no worries if not
Do you sometimes make samples from tape recordings? Inwouöd love seeing a video like that! Si great stuff! Thank U! 🙏🏾
Thanks! Yes, I sometimes do that…I'll keep it in mind for a future video.
Very comprehensive video! I would just prefer if the OP-1 was in a normal angle but that’s just me I guess 😅
Thanks! Yeah, but then I couldn’t pretend that the crookedness is deliberate anymore ;)
I enjoy ur OP vids so thank you. However, I think covering saving/recalling & also how to layer sounds need explaining on this 1. Ty though
True, could have been included…
Very nice videos, i learn a lot too, but when u sample are you basically just recording on top on the current drum sample and you loose it or it create a drumkit automatically?
Could I ask how you are able to use OP1 mic while having headphones plugged in? No matter what cable I use, it always switches to headphone input.
It shouldn’t switch to headset unless you have a headset or another TRRS cable plugged in. Make sure you are using a TRS instead of TRRS, then this shouldn’t happen. If it still happen, it’s time to contact te :/
@@SONWU Contacted TE, they think the input jack might be faulty.
This is awesome! Can anyone explain the drum sampler envelope page to me? (Button2)
It is more of a transient shaper, than a traditional ADSR envelope. If you look up transient shaper it’ll make more sense…although I still rarely use it :)
@@SONWU thanks! I’ll do that now! I also rarely use that page
is it suitable for live sampling / looper for DJ performance (quantised recording, sample slicing, etc.)?
I wouldn‘t consider it for doing livelooping purposes. There are much better devices for such things, like the Octatrack for example.
This is driving me nuts : when I record drums , the recording is quieter and WAY less dynamic ! Playing live and doing this in real time will be a noticeable distraction. Am I doing something wrong ?
Hi son wu, I try to record my Guitar via external mic to tape. Connection and leveling works well. I aim the recorder but it doesnot Start when threshold is reached. Any hind for me?
There is no threshold recording on tape…you have to start it manually REC+PLAY
In order to sample is it necessary to press on one of the keys or can the microphone be activated without pressing a key? I want to sample my flute into the OP 1 but the flute requires two hands to play it 😅
Yes…of course you could record to tape first and then sample from there. This would allow you to do it hands-free.
@@SONWU awesome thanks! Another reason why I should buy one already! Thanks 🙏🏽
big question are…where are these sampler goes? where to find them
For the time being they are in whichever slot you have currently selected (1-8) if you want to save a sample press & hold the currently selected slot. Then press shift + that slot again to be able to name it and find it in the snapshot folder.
Kann ich deinen alten OP1 haben? Danke im voraus
Na klar…ich schick dir ne PayPal invoice und los geht's ;)
I wish TE would improve the Drum Sampler chopping. Geez it takes so long. Why can’t it find the transients better?
It sadly doesn't find the transients at all…just divides by equal slices.
6:07 It went from Kalimba do Hawaii
:)
Have A Great Day ❤❤❤❤
Thanks you too!
Wait, this video doesnt cover how to save the samples AT all
wasn't paid enough 🤷♂
Shame you can't pan synth samples
