You definitely need many days to sample it all! More music than you can possibly squeeze in and a few years of visits to eat all the food. Thanks for watching 👍

It is a very unique experience that many other cities have tried to copy but so far none have really been able to capture the same magic. The biggest downside these days is that it has just gotten so very expensive for tickets and then the food & drinks. To really get the full experience you need multiple days as there is so much music and so much to see and do. If often does rain and when it rains if often floods so you get a wide range of weather experiences as I've been in crazy hot weather, flooded weather and freezing cold weather out at fest before. It is definitely a marathon and not a sprint. You also should keep in mind that every Wednesday during this time of year there is another free weekly festival, The YLC Wednesday on The Square, that you can also enjoy more good music and festival food at. Thanks for watching!
Just be very careful during your visit as these days the crime is crazy out of control. They mostly leave us dudes alone (other than when they are going after somebody they already have a problem with) and seem to mostly attack women but keep your eyes open especially in the Quarter. Make sure to not leave anything in your vehicle you don't want stolen. Trucks are specifically targeted more often as the criminals assume there will be firearms inside. Some neighborhoods have gotten to the point where people have stopped locking their cars and just put a sign up saying "car is open please don't break window" then just remove everything out of their car. Two of my neighbors have had their car windows smashed in and one has a Kia which is a prime theft target as it is so easy to steal and she has had multiple windows smashed.
@@NOLAGent1OMG! Really?! I had heard it was (could be) bad, but wow! My son and I are coming to New Orleans for five nights. He is 16. We will not be goi g out at night. We will be visiting the French Quarter, taking a plantation then air boat tour, doing a lunch cruise on the Natchez, visiting Mardi Gras World, and maybe. Suiting Autobahn Park. Might visit the WWII museum too. My some wants to do some voodoo tour or something like that. Are those things safe? Any advice? Will our rental car be safe at Mardi Gras World and the Jazz museum?
@@Jeannified They just had a shooting at Mandina's where I eat all the time... The 911 calls have been taking around 8 hours to respond to as so many of the police have quit. So there are definitely things to be very concerned about. Are you going to be staying in the French Quarter? Mardi Gras World has good parking and is a generally safe area. Plantation and Airboat should all be good as long as you look out for the snakes and gators (but they are part of the tour). Audubon Park has had some crime so I know a lot of ladies no longer use the little house bathrooms out there but it is generally safe as so many people are typically out there exercising but at night it has had many incidents happen. The "Fly" area behind the zoo is a great view of the Mississippi River and you might also enjoy the zoo. WWII museum is a generally good area. The Jazz Museum is in the French Quarter and you can typically find parking on Esplanade not too far away with just several blocks of walking but that side of the Quarter does have a lot of panhandler "gutter punks" or "travelers" who are quite physically dirty and can be jerks sometimes but don't generally rob people. Depending on where you are staying it might be better to take Uber/Lyft but walking in the Quarter can be hit or miss with crime. Generally Bourbon has had more violence/crime than the rest and typically the closer to the River you are the safer it tends to be and the closer to Louis Armstrong Park you get it can be more dangerous at night. It is a bit of a walk from the Jazz Museum to Cafe du Monde which I'm guessing you want to do so a Pedicab might be a good way to travel and avoid the mule poop, horse poop, dog poop and human poop that will get on the streets and sidewalks in that area. The French Market is also right near that area so you can walk all the way through the French Market and get to Cafe du Monde (but always watch where you step as people often leave their dogs poop all over the sidewalks). The Voodoo tour should be OK once you get to it as those are usually larger groups of people and the criminals typically target people alone or in small numbers. The thing to consider is should you take an Uber/Lyft to the tour meetup spot or walk? Those tours often run when it is getting dark so an Uber/Lyft or pedicab might be safer for you. Statistically you should be totally fine but there is definitely a way to manage your risk to keep you even safer to avoid anything bad happening. For your rental car make sure to not leave ANYTHING in it you don't want stolen and make sure nothing can be seen inside the car somebody might want to steal.
@@NOLAGent1 Wow! Thanks for the info! Greatly appreciated I had considered everything you are saying, and planned to use Uber, Lyft, pedicabs, French Quarter horse drawn carriage tours, double decker busses...whatever, just to ensure that we are that much more safe. I had figured that going toward the Louis Armstrong park might not be the best idea for us. We are not drinkers either, so plan to be back at the hotel in the evening. We are staying at the Homewood Suites on Poydros. I made it a point NOT to stay in the French Quarter, because it would be more chaotic over there. We were planning on taking a ride on the trolley through the Garden District and walking around. Is that a safe area to do that? (I know that the Garden District is supposedly the nicest area over there these days, but you never know...just wanted to ask.) Would it be safe for us to take a carriage ride through the French Quarter? Also, the French Market, Cafe, Du Monde, and the Jazz Museum are safe to drive to and visit? I will make sure that we don't leave anything in the rental car.
@@Jeannified The Garden District is generally a safe area but there have been quite a few carjackings on Prytania Street. Also we have those traffic cameras everywhere that get very active around school closing time so be careful with watching speed limit signs. You catch the carriage rides right across the street from Cafe du Monde next to Jackson Square and you should be fine doing that. You have to pay for parking in the Quarter during the day (M-S til 7pm Free on Sundays and holidays) There are spots on Esplanade you can park free then right next to the museum there are paid parking slots or there is also a pay lot near there as well where you can walk to the Jazz Museum. That area is generally ok in the daytime so you could go all the way through the French Market and to Cafe du Monde without much trouble in the daytime.
Thanks for the video! Returning for the second time this year- all is booked- well except flights but Weekend 1 4 day pass secured!!! Any smaller/local acts you'd recommend I for sure check out from this year's lineup?
Usually it is great to just wander around and see what music catches your ear. The tents to right of the grandstand are always great spots to escape the heat and sun for awhile and enjoy some of the local music. We also have French Quarter Fest which has ALL local acts right before Jazz Fest and FQF is FREE! Also don't forget they have YLC Wednesday on the Square in Lafayette Park in the CBD every Wednesday during that time so more local music to enjoy there!
I didn't recognize anybody other than the Angelo's Bakery folks. All my friends went on other days with more popular bands. I filmed this soon after the fest opened on Friday so it was a slower time and mostly tourists out and about.
