  • The first big swell AKA opening day this fall in Santa Cruz, California came early this year! Filmed September 26th and 27th, 2023 at Steamer Lane. Lots of big waves, big wipeouts and humble pie being served.

    Came here from a comment about someone’s grandma riding this wave in the 50s and 60s, pretty badass

    The first swells are the best. So many wipe outs and always humbling. The town comes alive. Thanks for making the video for those of us that missed it 😢

    Nice to see a group all the way out at the first peak. Used to hate hanging on the inside and seeing a massive set getting ready to unload outside on first peak then having to duck under the entire set. Thanks for sharing the waves with us my friend, good stuff indeed. 👍 👍

    Ah, good memories! 2010/11 lived in Soledad for a year and would make the trip to Da lane every weekend and some Moss Landing. Got good waves through the winter. Good stuff, good waves and mostly respectful vs coming from Huntington.... Thanks for da memories.

    It's so nice to watch surfing when the guy lets the wave dictate. Instead of trying pull "tricks" all the time. It ain't a skate ramp.

    Always fun to watch people get bounced down The Lane... And the rippers, with local 🌊 knowledge, make it a freight train🪓

    When the lane is big (kinda) it’s a lot of current moving which means a workout comparable to surfing SF OB…

    Man I don’t know if I could make it out in a log at that size without getting smoked.

      Go ALL the way around, that’s what I have to do on the bodyboard

      You figure it out eventually. Spent every winter morning of the 90’s out here riding a 9’0” or 10’2”. But if you get caught you will wind up paddling the long way around.

    are you allowed to ride a board that's under 11 feet out there

    • @michaelh3992
      @michaelh3992 10 месяцев назад

      Yes, but that’s for the lefts off middle peak and the slot over to the right. The longboards have the advantage on the big middle peak waves going right.

      That's because every 25 yd there is a 12 to 22 ft great white shark surveying or on the hunt.

    Average nor cal surfers are usually people who learn to surf way too late. And are a danger to others who do know how it's done. It's was the case when I lived there many years ago. The real locals do rip its all the wanna be tourist surfers that make it a living hell

      @@rionexpa4790 Surfing is an expression of ones self, and everyone on this video has as much right to be out there, as the next. I give them credit for being out, on a pretty decent size day. For you to talk about someone's akward style, or below average experience, makes you the biggest Kook here.
