It is an accepted fact that he was as brilliant as he was neglected. He was called only when a song required his singing prowess which no other singer could deliver. But the greatest strength of Rafi Saab lies in his beautiful voice, modulation etc. On the other hand Manna Dey was the first choice when a complex or some different kind of tunes were composed. Example- Bichhua of Madhumati, Chalat Musafir in Bhojpuri style, folk based song in Safar, songs with karnatik flavour of Padoshan and innumerable clasical based songs. But he was stamped for those songs only and deprived of mainstream songs. But whenever he got a chance he proved that he was capable in that category also like a number of Raj Kapoor films and a few Shammi Kapoor and Rajesh Khanna films, only to be forgotten thereafter.
