    When I think of the Gretsch guitar sound I think of a thin, tinny sound. Duane Eddy being an exception. Even my hero Chet Atkins was with Gretsch for many years before his recorded sound blossomed into a beautiful tone (Guitar Country LP).
    I would never have guessed that these were Gretsch guitars had I not seen the video for myself. The overdrive made them sound very un-Gretsch like.

      I get what you're saying...trust me. But, if you look at comparative prices/inflation, the cost of a top of the line guitar today isn't any different than back in "the good old days." You can buy one of these guitars for roughly 2,500. Not totally out of line. IMO

    Amazing guitars - real works of art in their own right.
    On the other hand, the painted on f-holes for the Tennessee Rose are a travesty. I get that it's tradition, but it's not one that we should keep.

    • @Trombonology
      @Trombonology 2 года назад +1

      I agree entirely. I have a 2006 Country Club and a 2015 Eddie Cochran 6120 and love both. I've been intrigued for years by the features of the '59 single-cutaway Country Gentleman, but I just can't get past those fake f-holes. As I understand it, Chet asked Gretsch to put in a center block to combat feedback, as on the then-new ES-335, but Gretsch didn't want to be seen as copying Gibson, so they simply made the top solid. That helped to some degree, but those cheesy-looking painted f-holes did NOT help aesthetically.

    With seemingly "everyone" moving to the satin-finished necks, why is Gretsch still holding on to the glossy finish? My hand sticks to it like glue. I'd love to have one of these guitars but if I can't play it, I won't spend this kind of money for it. Also, who decided that this type of video is a good way to introduce new models?

    • @joeykelly5642
      @joeykelly5642 2 года назад

      Especially considering that the “player’s edition” models are supposed to have semi-modern appointments - it’d be nice if they used the satin gloss they put on the necks of those Mexican Fenders, or did some kind of aging job on the necks specifically

    • @miketraz44
      @miketraz44 2 года назад

      As someone who has satin finished necked guitars, I can say my 6118T's neck plays better than my charvels. Yes it's gloss finished, but it's so incredibly frictionless. Nothing like the sticky neck on a cheap strat. Highly recommend... Its one of the best guitars I've tried.

    • @EdCarlson
      @EdCarlson 2 года назад

      @@miketraz44 I'm glad I didn't stop looking at Gretsch. My third Guitar Center I found one that had a wonderful neck. Turns out, the first two GC Gretsch's must have been covered in sweat and never cleaned by the staff. Disgusting (GC, not Gretsch). I bought my first Gretsch last December.

      @@yeesenchai I'm glad you brought that up actually. It WOULDN'T be a fuss if Gretsch actually had a robust accessories/parts replacement website where you could purchase those things at ease but they don't! You have to go out to Reverb, Ebay, or a 3rd party outfit to find anything. This is one area where Gibson has Gretsch beat! You can literally find anything you want for Gibson guitars on their website! I should be able to just click onto the Gretsch Guitars website, go to accessories/replacement parts, and buy a trapeze stoptail or a different color pickguard or pickup rings if I want. But no! They have nothing like that.
