- Jason Isbell sits in with Widespread Panic live in Raleigh, NC on April 30th for JJ Cale's "Ride Me High".
Shot & edited by Andy Tennille, Mixed by Brett Orrison
The only thing wrong with this song is that YT decided to interrupt it no less than three times with idiotic ads. The playing and synergy are amazing. Jason blends perfectly, and is playing like a guest musician (not showing off or taking over).
Adds lately are horrendous!
You tight ass pay RUclips so you don’t have commercials your fault
I'm here again just to watch the smiles and grins between Herring and Isbell. Love seeing people playing with other great musicians who bring them out of their more commonly expected style.
Happy Birthday Jason ❤
Putting him down as a guitarist is beyond ignorance.... He's a badass guitarist. Rhythm, lead, writer, arranger, producer....and whatever else he puts his hands in.
Panic respect the man enough to have him join them onstage. Enough said!
He’s been playing on stage with them every now and then since what seems like 1994...
Absolutely Love Them Too!
I don't listen to Jason much but he held his own with the boys and my happy feet can't stop moving now! Thanx Boys
Jimmy Herring and Jason Isbell, fuck yeah!
Honestly my first time hearing this group. Only looked into because I saw in my paper they had passed the Grateful Dead for appearances at Red Rocks. Now I have never seen these guys but the Dead I have seen dozens of times at the Rocks. I will try and check them out but the $9.73 seat price will not buy you a bag of peanuts now SAD. I remember the legend of Denver Concert Promoter telling me he was getting out. "Because it was no longer the music business It was the business of music". How right Barry was about it all we miss you my friend.
did you make it to a show?
Magic and mesmerizing!
May the Gods let Panic live forever!
✌🏼❤️🤘🏼
Longlive Rock n Roll, Longlive Widespread Panic 🤟!
you soothed my soul today, like always! love you all
❤🎉 love it
Thanks for posting more videos - really helping me through a slow Friday workday!
This is awesome!!
Watched the video for Jason but will definitely check out more WSP!
same except the other way around lol ;) what are some good live isbell links?
You won't regret it!
Dig into the studio work. No doubt Isbell can play the guitar, but he really doesnt do jam music. Although I will suggest checking out some of his slide solos on the songs Decoration Day and Children of Children.
As far as studio recs:
Southeastern is a masterpiece. Personally I really love Sirens of the Ditch. Are you familiar with Drive-By Truckers? Jason was a member from 2001-2007 and wrote some of their pretty undisputedly greatest songs. Which now are some of Jason's most iconic and revered tunes. His songwriting truly is on another level than most everyone else out there writing songs right now. Let it grow on you. Just as they say about poetry - "Listen to it at LEAST three times before you even begin to start contemplating a meaning."
Gregory Maurer cover me up with his wife Amanda Shires is golden!!!!
WIDESPREAD PANIC 2020! COME TOGETHER RIGHT NOW!
Present. 5th row Schools side. Wow! This was bad ass I was lucky to be there.
Hell YEAH 👍🔥🔥🔥
So good
Well said. Brilliant performance by all.If you're in competition mode you just missed the divine.
Who's with me after 20 years??? I am HERE!!!!!
❤
That keyboard player is a beast! Anyone know what kind of keyboard he's playing at about 6:49 in? Love that sound. Reminds me of a Korg. All theses guys are pros. Good lord they rock.. They remind me a of Santana with this song. Are they still touring?
It's a Clavinet
@@an5925 Thanks! :)
This was a next level performance
Hell yeah get em Jimmy!
This is so cool!!!!
this show was so amazing. grateful to have been there.
Next story is about cocktails with JoJo in Augusta. Plenty more been a fun ride almost 30 years of seeing Panic absolutely love this band.
JI fits right in!
🔥🔥🔥
Who ever is putting him down, did we miss the footage of you sitting in beside Jimmy while your bus is waiting to take you to your headline gig at Merle Fest??
Pretty, pretty good. 😊
To the people putting down Mr. Isbell: He is a great( boardering on brilliant) songwriter who can write better than just about anyone else alive. If jam band guitar wankery is your thing, then yeah, i guess these guys from widespread panic can play scales longer and faster than he can. I would to see this band write a song like Outfit. Or Elephant. Or Dress Blue. Or Live Oak. Jason is a rare, rare talent.
y'all are tripping...jimmy herring has more talent in his right arm than isbell...no disrespect to him cuts he's pretty good but first of all i went and listened to the songs you mentioned and none of them hold a candle to 75% of the wsp catalog as far as interesting chord choices and fun, unique, and catchy melodies/guitar riffs. second of all as far as guitar paying goes jimmy herring is much more than "jam band guitar wankery" if you listen to his solo stuff and his interviews you'd see he knows jazz and music theory better than 99% of guitarists and is capable of much more than just scales and long, fast solos. he isn't bordering on brilliant ...he is brilliant.. not be a ball washer j/s
It is when 2 sheep shaggers insult your favorite guitar player.
well that's a nice quaint view of the music industry - i would say it is a very fierce competition if you actually want to make a living in music
Don't know much about Isbell, but the fact that they invited him to play with them should be enough of a compliment/testament to his own talent.
Jason is great and his song writing is even better and his best stuff yet to come .folk rock country all in one
Bless all of you saints and Shaolines, bless again heavy ❤️, fourth dimension (I feel good man)bless again big brothers . One day at that time. Brother’s in Action. Bless Again. Hare Krishna GENTE. Thank terrícolas. Nature, against the Nature..NOTHING IS WRONG
Didn't Jason Isbell play for the Drive-By-Truckers? Who of which have opened for WSP in the past.
At one time, yes.
Yes he used to play with the DBTers. He left after he and his girlfriend, the bass player broke up. Don’t if they OPENED FOR WSP PR NOT. I do know that schools produced their album though
Saw DBT open for Panic in 05'
I actually discovered DBT during set break at oak mtn shows in 2001. They were playing them over PA. Became huge fan and followed them a good bit. It was extremely obvious who was the serious musician in that group. Best thing Isbell did was get sober, start his solo career and prove how unbelievably talented he is. Extremely underrated guitarist (whose getting his props now) and is definitely a top 2-3 songwriter out there right now
Bring Jason on! And Amanda too!
WSMFP⚡💃🕺💃🕺
Tearing it up....digging it big time.
Why I am reading comments is my own fault but not recognizing isbell from ripping with Drive by Truckers years ago is yours. The dude is a great songwriter now but in the day was a shredder
...and that doesn't suck!
Wow, this doesn't suck! (Despite four people with bad taste who think it does).
JJ Cale
Isbell = GOAT
Sounds like the intro to Black Magic Woman
was there, almost got arrested for no reason, I'll never go to walnut Creek again. fuck that venue. but the show was fantastic
borodichroic1 😂😂✌🏽
Raleighwood brother. I dig the venue but the cops are bad. Seen Phish and Panic there a few times. You have to watch your shit around that lot. Peace.
Sonny going ham as always
Boomshakalakalaka
I mean!!!
Isbell is awesome. These comments are silly. Of course he wasn't gonna get up there with Jimmy and shred like Warren Haynes. This is like complaining that Greg Maddux couldn't hit...
Mitch McCauley thank you. Isbell can play with anyone
Look at the crowd going bezerk
Percussionist looks like Mr Cheswick escaped from one flew over cuckoo nest !!
epic right
2 solos ruined by effin ads...
FML
JoJo. ... the way you move those fingers it's a cryin shame
I want them on my body and I will do the same ;) xo
jojo sings
DV eppish.... I bet you wear skinny jeans too don't you
yeah he does suck Herring unintentionally smokes him.
And no he can't eat JI s lunch get a grip
Bulldozers and Dirt!
I dunno, i think he missed the JJ groove on this one... bummer, time to go back to the rollong board.
Joshua Bloodsworth I don’t think they were trying to replicate JJ’s sound. Panic always plays themselves even when they cover stuff. They take a song and put it into their formula. They tip the hat to the artists they love and respect that inspired them. I believe their mentality is to “let the music play the band”
Thinkudid
herring eats Isbells lunch.....never saw the hype over him
songwriting?
and also guitar isn't a competition
Jason Isbell is probably the best songwriter alive.....so he has that going for him.
ok. Alive. Let's not forget that a guy named Dylan is still alive. As is Robert Hunter. So,lets hold off on "the best alive" for awhile, shall we?
Everyone shut the fuck up
DV eppish.... I bet you wear skinny jeans too don't you
