I'm 59 and drive Lyft in Dallas. Sat night I picked up a bunch of freshman from SMU and on the way to the club they wanted to hear some music. Play whatever you got in the CD player they said. It just happened to be The Best of Buddy Holly. Peggy Sue, It's So Easy, and That'll Be the Day played and do you know that those 'kids' knew ALL THE WORDS!!! I was shocked and delighted. There's still hope.

I was 5 when I got my Buddy Holly record for Christmas. 53 years later,I still listen to it every month. Always wonder where music would have gone had he,Eddie Cochran,Big Bopper and others had not gone so soon. stones and Beatles were a big influence in the 60s ,along with the Animals,Who and countless others, but seriously, where would music have gone if Buddy had of survived? All accounts say he perfected overdubbing and various other ways of using his voice/others,and guitar over tones. I’m not anywhere near an expert on that, but do know that his music was heads above Elvis and many others for the times.

I had the thrill of seeing Angus "Gus" MacGregor perform as "Buddy" at the Strand Theater in London. There aren't enough superlatives to describe the show on the big stage. Angus absolutely "nailed" the role of Buddy with Buddy Holly's voice, mannerisms and stage presence. At the end of the show, Gus came out and thanked the standing room only crowd for coming, then the band played several of Buddy's songs. With the entire audience on their feet dancing to "Rave On", it was an evening to remember.

I think most overlooked is the golden voice that is Buddy. Crystal clear, warm, simple, but always leading his tunes on in such a beautiful warm way. Buddy's voice is the driving force behind the sound that we all take for granted. The same songs with another voice just arent the same. No matter how close they may come, Buddy owns the sound that, i think, can never be replicated. We get a personal view of Buddy and his personality through his beautiful unique voice.

They came to Britain in the late 1950's as a trio and people here loved them. They played a Venue near me at the time but I had a Gig with my Band so could not go and see them and always regretted that. But I did get to see Eddie Cochran play live, and later played Gigs with Gene Vincent and Bill Haley, those were great days and we won't see and hear times like that again sad to say.
