Remember when Matt and Mere were selling t-shirts out of their garage?……I’ve been watching a long time…….he’s come a long way!!!
Remember when some pretentious ass hat tried to insult Matt's intelligence after a microwave Monday episode just because Matt was acting up the redneck bit and the dude was "collage educated". That shit was funny.
Unfortunately the t-shirts for the monthly subscriber have gone down in quantity but I to remember when they were selling out of the garage
They work hard …
I remember when Matt was making custom shotgun shells
I remember when Matt was blowing stuff up in a microwave in his back yard.
Matt: SERIOUSLY consider hydroseeding your embankments ASAP. Use a starter fertilizer and a blend of quick germinating nurse grass mixed with native prairie grasses, plus hydromulch and double the standard tackifier in the tank.
WAY cheaper than repairs.
You are at risk of a major blowout because it is steep, and it being recently placed fill.
Use your firetruck to water every other day for a week - 10 days.
I keep waiting for some company to come along and partner with him for the price of advertising on the range.
I feel like super helpful and informative comments are always way under seen and rarely acknowledged
Absolutely correct. Those washout aren't gonna get any smaller. It's gonna be real bad soon and that's so steep its not like you can just run a dozer over it and fix it back up again.
I literally just commented the same thing and even a straw mat plus fert amd reseed with some sprinklers to keep wet would wrk or hrydro seed on top straw mat would do extremely well and maybe instead of grass do like tall grasses
It's really sad that Matt can't even have his wife on the channel because some people don't know how to behave.
She even had to get rid of her company. People just don't have no home trading.
Agreed. Mere was alwys funny on the channel
I completely agree. I miss Mere not being in the videos too, but I'm thankful Jenna (aka tattooed Mere) is still in them.
It's just disgusting that these people are raised so poorly these internet weirdos that's a ruined this poor girl's business and she can't even be on camera... when you have these piece of crap internet stalkers like this they should be locked up for 5 years for every violation they commit ! I need to tell you the truth as a husband and a father I'd rather take him out the Texas desert.....
It is disgusting, having to shut down a business you dreamed of owning and built up from nothing just because you were collecting stalkers as fast as ticks on a wild hog. I feel so bad for Mere having to give up her dream. @@grumpyoldman64
Matt, you are a great example of the get it done mentality. keep grinding.
Whatever Marks favorite thing was to do should be an attraction at the resort so other people can experience one of his biggest joys of life! R.I.P MARK missed but never forgotten!
Mark would love this place Matt
From what I remember, he liked things with motors (bikes, 4-wheelers, ride mowers, go carts, etc..) and making/fabricating neat stuff. Animals, guns and of most of all his family.
His channel's still up, "Homemade Everything". @mcarriker5 .
I go back every once in a while and watch the older stuff sometimes. Can't rewatch the more recent videos though, too sad.
Such a great idea. He loved fixing up old stuff to run again. That would be cool on the resort. Invite young car restoring youth (maybe at risk youth) to come to the Resort and work on old cars. Build a full-on shop with everything needed. Get lots of companies to donate stuff. I'd watch that. Call it the Mark Carriker Garage. ❤
I miss him too. I still wear his fundraiser t shirt.
It was good to see Mark on the outdo again! That clip is awesome for several reasons... 1. It is Mark 2. he is smiling and laughing 3. he is giving his big successful big brother the business like only he could and lastly all of that together is how at least I want to remember him and your relationship. Hope his wife and kids are doing well.
Get a big mobile pit smoker! Then you can move it around all over the ranch for different events. Like at the Range, River, Caves, and such.
Event at the range could be called "Boomsticks and BBQ".
Having walked this area of the property on the BootySnapple Fest tour, the vision is SOOO much clearer to me than it was before the eclipse event. I see how the pieces of the main resort fit together now, and I can see how your vision is coming true!!
Matt! I am a stagehand in Las Vegas, who has been building stages and events for a decade! Look at stage right systems before you build a permanent stage! I can even help show you all the benefits, or even how to build the systems! totally worth it!
And for a cheap rate of only $69,420 per hour!
(/s)
Matt! I'm a mobile sound engineer in the Branson area and I have worked one of their stages and they are the BOMB!. Best in the middle USA in my not so humble opinion. Use em!!!
The cost vs benefits of a stageright system wouldn't balance out, for his needs.
One of there greatest strengths is transportation. However, these would only need to be transported every so often, while never going into storage. Making some of the benefits useless and longevity vastly shorter.
@@djmadcow I’ve been building stages in every type of environment for a decade. And have never seen a stage right system on a tour. It almost exclusively used by the arenas, and local staging companies that build in ballrooms, and remote locations.
The benefit of stage right is by no means the portability, as that crown goes to Tait.
Stageright’s benefit is its compact-ability, and modular/diverse staging builds. They make all terrain stages systems that can fit a 60x40 stage into 100 sq ft space. And can be built by 5-6 people in 2 hours.
@@aminon5437 Exactly my point.. Matt's needs are for outdoors/ semi-permanent. Your listing indoor experience. Be it Stageright, Tait, G-set, Versa stage, and so on, I've delt with them all for outdoor festival set ups, since the late 90's. Same concept just different brands.
None are ideal for long term outdoor semi-permanent stages.. They can be made that way but costs more. They are great for fast teardown, set-up, and modular ability. not to mention mechanical additions. As well as transportation, like mentioned before. That is why all big bands touring use them. They can easily fit in a semi for a full custom stage transported all across the world easily.
So again the cost + needs vs benefits/ drawbacks, do not adjust out, from a well designed stage that can be moved around by a bobcat in pieces, or stacked on a trailer, just as easy.
Plant clover instead of grass. Green all year around, easy to grow, and it attracts leprechauns, which usually have gold.
Isn't it bad for cattle?
You don't want to attract leprecoons.
Last thing you want when pouring concrete is dryness and heat. The concrete needs the moisture for the chemical reactions that set it, and heat can cause the reactions to go too fast, making for weak concrete.
Exactly
Yeah, this was bugging me, it's like, wtf you have the perfect conditions for pouring a slab, no sun!
the mix design was most likely not spec'd out to be poured on a 8+ inch slump, which in result can diminish the strength of said concrete by 10% of the designed strength per 1 inch over the spec
@ianman1196 yeah, it looked kinda wet to me, a lot of water was coming to the top. Don't know alot about concrete, just seemed wet to me.😅
@@nicolburger6013 ya, looked really sloppy
I'm so glad you posted another abandoned resort video today. Heck, isn't your motto, do something today that will make tomorrow better. You are completing forward momentum steps like a boss!! I've already started saving to stay at the resort and hopefully shoot at your range. You ARE the man, Matt!
Something I would suggest, a greenhouse. There you can start plants for the grounds, bushes, etc.. that would help your groundskeeper and beautiful plants to change with the seasons.
He could set it up to have guest help in some way as volunteer work 🤷🏽♂️just a way to get involved
Definitely should start some farming with all that land
I was thinking it would be great if at they could have their own fresh herbs and veggies for the future restaurant too. It would be a good place to winter over various things, and starting things from seed is way cheaper.
@@Silver_Dollarthat area is very rocky with a poor thin layer of top soil that's not farmable. Bring in some soil for a gardening area sure, but no farming is gonna be possible there.
@@davidmtwiggit's definitely possible. It would just take some initial work. You would need to bring in good soil to start but once the place is up and running with customers composting would give them enough fresh soil to maintain it.
Whenever I'm doing remodeling projects at home, i always remember a quote i heard regarding renovations: It has to get worse before it gets better.
That's what I keep telling myself when I'm decluttering/cleaning...
Matt you already have the stage roof built find a permanent spot pour a cement pad with some columns to set the roof on, easy peasy!
Using it on the trailer allows him to set it up in different places for different events.
@@chucksherron yep, plus its just a small temp stage. If it works out and he gets more singers and bands to play, im sure a really big permanent stage will be built.
You need to hydroseed the grass on the hill, that's what they do on hills on roads and stuff, the grass grows really fast, helps so erosion and no hay needed
or just put grass mats.
That smoke house is the coolest thing on the resort. You definitely need to keep it and refurbish it
Totally agree! Its fixable, and can do even whole pigs, I think.....
@@RICDirector easily do 2 whole pigs
That thing is NOT saveable. It needs so much work that it would basically need to be entirely rebuilt. At that point, you're better off building something better. Whoever built that thing was an idiot.
That metal box smoker pit is probably the cleanest thing on the ranch. Someone knew that ash holds moisture and will rust metal and cleaned it. It just needs a grinder, a patch and some paint. Move that, use that, don't trash that.
When Matt uploads you stop watching what you were watching a watch the king of the Demolitia
True😂
Top your grass seeds with straw
Stop sucking up. 🤣🤣🤣
I know I do … I love his videos
That literally what I did hahaha ha
I used to build swimming pools. Sometimes we would use black pool-cote.
It makes the water look dark blue, instead of light blue. More natural looking.
But in Texas wouldn’t that make it hotter in the summer?
We were building them in the Keys. Don't remember that being a problem.
@@kimberlyenglehardt5770
@@kimberlyenglehardt5770 No, the pool itself is a giant heatsink. Water heats and cools a LOT slower than land does. It would likely only make a difference of a couple of degrees, but it would likely still need to be heated to maintain temperature, even in summer.
….😂😂😂😂 “we just found another cave.”
That’s the spirit! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Agreed! Cave content!
Who else is afraid the whole property is gonna one day be consumed by these caves!😳
More CAVE, More CAVE, More CAVE!!!!!!!!!
Right now it looks like a bottomless pit!
Yeah, at this rate he’s gonna have to rename the place Cowboy Caves Resort or something.
100% I need to put your place as a bucket list place to visit. It'll be awhile still but that's just fine. Bucket lists you get to as you can and you have your whole life for it, normally. Ideally you do it before you physically can't anymore and this is a place to fully enjoy. The views, the open sky, the friendly people. All this work will soon be a distant memory replaced by all the good times when it's done.
Absolutely amazing property there’s so much you could do almost have like little villages of different dwellings, an area of yurts, tiny houses, themed housing like hobbit hole houses, pitches with power hook ups for RV’s etc the options are endless and so much fun.
Hydroseeding is faster germination and establishment of a lawn compared to traditional seeding methods and cost-effective option for establishing a new lawn.
I would keep in mind bathroom for the event area also like some sort of side/back entrance for catering with a good catering kitchen not open to the air so that it can be closed off from the event and not seen
It blows my mind how many different trades and skills you must be competent in by now. Great work!
At the range Matt, you'll need to set some netting on these mounts, to hold things up, until the grass grows and takes the job with its roots... just a cheap plastic net, to survive a few months under the sun will do...
Plant 6 foot trees all along the top of the birm, the roots will spread out and hold the dirt in place
You should install 30 all season prefab yurts on top of wooden decks in various locations on the abandoned resort, at least the resort can be up and running to a certain degree while you build more permanent structures, should be able to do it relatively cheap too. 👍
One field glamping one field camping bathrooms that serve each field. Would be the best option after his event space in terms of investment & speed & numbers of people in.
His admin building really is going to make it possible though.
Vending machines.
@@steph0xGx Thats a great idea, maybe he'll read our comments, and we'll have some influence on the influencer.👍
Several state parks in Georgia have Yurts. So nice!
Different areas with different themes. I’ve suggested getting those storage sheds that look like cabins. They have porches. You can make cute rooms out of them. Have an area like Curry Village tent cabins. There are so many possibilities. He has a blank canvas to work with.
That hang out area… first thing that came to mind was a camping area for Boy Scouts. If I camped there growing up, that would have been amazing. Camping and doing rifle, pistol, or archery merit badges with the troop. I know there’s a ton of troops around there.
when the hangout area is finished you could lease it out for "day" parties / events. Birthdays or whatever. 4 hour minimum. 8 hours max. just a thought.
I've seen sloped dirt used around shopping malls and they place a fabric on the dirt with wire pegs before adding topsoil and mulch for grass. You should at least lay down some mulch, and dead leaves if you have any, to prevent soil erosion as the rain impacts those harder objects. Plus it's Texas, that mulch is going to be needed for soil moisture.
That slab is going to be awesome. Slow cure wet concrete is incredibly hard
Concrete doesn't dry, it cures. It's an exothermic (heat generating) chemical reaction. Excess moisture is good for concrete. Keeping the surface wet during the curing process results in harder concrete.
I really really hope that Matt just chooses the cheapest labor every time he needs construction done because I almost never see white construction workers on his property and it’s quite concerning….
@@saveusall6915it’s Central Texas…. 😂 Most of these guys probably born and raised in San Antonio. 😂
@@TEXASTR0NGAmen brother, Good work doesn't come from your skin color.
@@saveusall6915idiot
@@saveusall6915Mexican workers are amazing workers
We replaced the old wooden docks at Boot Key Marina with concrete docks and had to pump concrete hundreds of feet.
That sometimes causes it to harden up while it's in the pipes and hoses. You can imagine how much fun that is.
Let the building commence.... I'm glad David is getting to see the other side of the camera, I really like his humor. Matt, Mikey, and David crack me up, I guess you could throw Jenna and Clint in the mix, too, great crew.
You need to use Hydro seed on the walls of the firing range. In the long run, it’ll be cheaper than seed. It will stick better and it includes good fertilizer.
I think Desperado Resort needs a desperado badass pool, like 10 times bigger than the one they have now. Any pool RUclipsrs out there, this is a win-win!
Seeing Matt being baby faced with a buzz cut in their first house. All the way up to this moment. He's doing amazing things.
Use jute netting in the gun range berm. It will help stabilize the soil and give the vegetation something to hold on to as it grows.
Shotgun shells loaded with grass seed, you’re welcome ☺️
Dont forget thd wildflowers in tbere too...support your local pollinators!
Spray on seed is available for sloped areas. It includes growth medium that helps it stick and root faster.
Patience is definitely a virtue in the concrete world, the longer the moisture is in the concrete the harder it sets
Use straw mats on the burm, it'll help with erosion & protect your grass seed until it finally takes root.
Renovating the area surrounding the abandoned cave. We all know the cave is most important.
Block house and spiral staircase. Solar powered cannabis grow room.....
Welcome to Indianapolis! Have fun & be safe so you can get back to working on this awesome resort.
From chaos comes order
Only when there is intelligent design. 😉
You could do with spraying some Hydoseed, its like a seed deninm mix to help it better take and provide some initial protection from washing out/birds
We appreciate your journey, thanks for taking us along! ❤
The key to get the concrete to set up faster is a product called high early (typically see 1-2% as an additive) Also, the slump of the concrete that was placed looked a little soupy. Decrease the slump to a 6-7 and utilize a concrete vibrator in the deep strap beam sections and you’ll be good to go!
FYI using hydro seed with RYE to spray slops of topsoil at the range!
On a positive note, longer cure time = stronger concrete.
Hey Matt, maybe you can try that grass seed stuff they spray on the side of the highways and interstates. It sticks really well and produces grass very quickly, like only a few days and it’s set and growing. Just a suggestion for you guys. Hope y’all are doing well! Keep it up Matt you are an inspiration to many!
It would be cool to see what the landscaping youtubers like SB mowing could do in that event space! Maybe send them an invite just to see what happens 😀
That is not bad thing. Cleaning and reveling the old stuff and replacing it with new look. Job well done Matt.
"It's gonna be very cheap" Famous last words.
In your event space, consider adding a small building that has restrooms for guests and a couple of rooms for the bridal and groom parties to get ready. Wouldn’t have to be much, maybe like a larger hotel room with a small bathroom for each.
Matt's enthusiasm for caves is great. I love the cave stuff. That water might lead to the biggest cave! IMAGINE!?
Or a sink hole either way it will be awesome
@@maxsmommy1500not for the brand new slab😂😂
@@Osamabintardin very true
That was some super wet looking concrete, but thankfully it did cure. Crazy you found a new cave!
So proud of ya'll. You're doing it! You got this!
12:15 That would be a great place for a band to set up for some concerts. Imagine evenings in the month of December with a 'Christmas Concert at the Desperado Resort' (it's Texas it ain't that cold yet) with the outdoor fireplace going, brisket coming off the pit, people eating in the pavilion while others sit listening to the band or dancing. Garland decorations on the out buildings, hot chocolate, marshmallow roasting (love me a perfectly caramelized marshmallow). That is a great little venue within a bigger venue! Toss this idea at Mere and see if it would meet corporate approval.
It ain't ever cold in Texas. LOL
I'd buy a, "Don't Tell Mer," t-shirt in a NY minute.
Matt get a functioning Campground working along the river. Maybe get some Kayaks to rent out. Maybe make a Bathroom shower Building. That drain hole could be filling up your caves.
Matt I'm so proud of you, we bought a camper! See y'all soon.
We are planning an event with DR. Hopefully you can join us!
We love our guns and 2 toy aussies! We had a condo on the Comal in early 2000, can't wait to head your way!
Matt you should definitely look into hydroseeding for the slopes ot the burm. Likely your best solution.
And easy to do yourself.
Open the pool and pavilion and rent them out for the summer.
Stretch some burlap on your dirt mound at the range. It will stop erosion and hold grass seed. It comes in huge rolls that you pin into the dirt, then irrigate lightly 3 times a day.
Hi Matt keep up the awesome videos. You got this!!!
I feel like if Matt got the tennis/basketball and volleyball courts fixed up it would be great for giving visiting people something to do early on, they seem like they'd also be some of the cheapest things to fix up
Renovation and car stuff are like a breath of fresh air after all that cave hoopla
I’m loving the continuing progress and all the antics and activities at the Ranch!
Be proud, Matt! So many would love to be in your shoes!
We love you!
Notification squad! Demo Squad!
we should all care cuz we r supporting you because u care. plus i work in construction and its fun to watch how ppl build different in different areas.
I also think you should utilize the already built giant fireplace by adding a height adjustable and removeable cast iron grill grate, it looks like it would be awesome for large barbecue events. 👍
I love that! Could hang a giant kettle and have a chili party too! 😮
To get seed to grow on the berm you may need to use excelsior mat or hydroseed it. Hydroseeding would probably be the best way to go. Of course it's more expensive.
19:49 NEW CAVE?... MATT!... THE ALL AREA IS A CAVE LABIRYNTH...! YOU NEED TO BRING SPECIALISTS WITH EQUIPMENT TO MAP THE UNDERGROUND CAVE SYSTEM TO SEE IF IT'S WORTH OPENING UP THE MAZE ...!
Hoping you and your family are staying safe in the horrible weather.
If only the government knew how to build back better like Matt!
The current pit, doesnt have a speck of rust. Thats amazing.
CURING CONCREET TAKES TIME!...we never rush it... we even water it to slow the curing process... curing generates heat, and we need to slow the process down to avoid cracks... ask your people, they know!...
16:44 you really need to do some erosion control on that Berm if you want the good soil to stick and grow grass. Get some jute net and some wattles. Put that out and either seed it by hand, hydro seed it, or just throw some rye straw down that has seed in it and that would help even
Niccce. Two days in a row.
The concrete slump should be 5 to 6. Less water makes the concrete stiff and harder to work! That slab was soup. If you get cracking in the slab, that's why.
keep going Matt! Love ya. This will be great once your done!!!!!
Matt..the Pavillion area is fantastic..I didn't realize it existed until now. Such an easy project..and would be the visual you use to confirm that your headed forward! Think of the cook offs or community dinners that could be held..or movie nite under the texas stars with a giant blowup outdoor screens...very cool. The administration building is looking breezy but good. I do have to state the obvious, the drainage tunnel that opened up right next to it is a bit concerning. You can always back the concrete truck up and fill it up..OOOOOOR you can dig it out and make your own "Matt-Cave", with your own Matt signal...EPIC, right?! Think about it. Keep up the momentum your getting there. We all have faith that you can get this done.
Matt. The metal box smoker is actually designed for smoking whole hogs! Would be a cool addition to your event space plus a 1000 gal smoker from mil scale in Lockhart!!!!!
Put winter wheat or rye down on the berm first when it sprouts plant the grass the taller grass will hold the seed of the regular grass. Eventually the smaller grass will choke out the wheat or rye and you will have a green berm.
Matt you and your crew and the contractors are doing a really fantastic job of shaping that place up into something once again. Keep up the good work I can’t wait to see the progression of this! Another cave! 😊
Can’t wait for all these smaller areas start coming together. Greetings from Finland! 🇫🇮
You could do the pool sooner than later so that you have it during the summer for a good swim after a days work. Also nice attraction for family picnics and reunions. How many family reunion venues have a pool?
I love these video updates on what's happening on the resort. Maybe you could plant some ground ivy on your shooting range hill. It grows fast and covers everything. I sure miss seeing Mere in your videos.
Looking forward to getting our overland community out there! 😃
Matt, when it comes to more dirt on the berm at the range look into a slinger truck. They can do the work from below and you can keep the trucks off the top.
You should use Hydro Grass and have it sprayed on the sides of the hills. It would hold the dirt in and grow quicker
Matt for President
You need to hydro seed them berms, it will stick to the dirt and help protect against the erosion while the grass takes root
That pavilion area would be great for weddings and small scale concert's great views as well.
The resort is coming slowly! Keep on trucking!
U got this. Keep going. You’re a boss for a reason.
16:43 get ahold of straw blanket. It will help with erosion and keep seed in place.
Rain is the worst when your finishing concrete. feel for those guys
