    Matt, my husband has been an insulator here in West Texas for decades. It is common for he and the crew to do vacuum jobs. They vacuum out all the old dirt, insulation, and such from attics. It could save you from tearing out those ceilings. I'm guessing you've had generations of raccoons, possums, foxes, etc, living in those attics. There are probably insulation companies near you who will do a vacuum job for you. Then you can re-insulate, and clear caulk between those ceiling boards.

    It's cool seeing that backhoe. I retired from Cat 3 years ago. Back in the early 80's, I designed the original buckets, bucket linkages, the extendable stick, and several other systems on the backhoe loader. A lot has changed since then, but I was there at the very beginning. It's always cool seeing the backhoe on TV shows and movies knowing I played a big role in designing it.

Maybe being constantly well fed is enough to keep a steady amount of water in a small pond?

    If you plan on doing considerably more demo, a thumb unit excavator would be a really useful tool. You're also correct in thinking a loader would help. As would a dozer blade, brush cutter and mulcher attachment for the skid steer, for doing work on the grounds. The plates on the teeth are usually used for digging near existing underground lines, and it's less likely to puncture the pipe, than the teeth are. As someone who works in the heavy equipment sales/rental industry, I know these things are not cheap. But, they make the work so much more efficient. You're off to a great start with the pieces you have. I look forward to getting caught up on this series. Keep up the good work!

  • @terryarnold958
    @terryarnold958 Год назад +1

    The pipeline requires the flat bars on the digging buckets as a safety precaution. They aren't as likely to puncture through a pipe in case of a line found in the wrong spot. Also, it gives the welders a nicer flat area to work under the pipe.

  • @Shawnbfromsd

    About that pond. You have a bunch of vegetation growing through it and that's a problem because you probably have a clay bottom liner to retain water in that pond and all those plants roots have punctured that liner so if you pull them out you'll tear a hole in your liner or if you chop them off at the base and leave the roots the roots under all that water in the Earth will eventually decompose and they will leave holes and gaps in the liner so basically there's no way around it you need to scrape that pond and have someone come in and put a clay Earth bottom liner to retain the water.

    😊 Matt, I had an idea about why the previous owners might have left so much valuable stuff, including all of the wine behind.
    I remember you showing us the old financial records for the resort and that their losses in the final year amounted to $1•23 million. This is only a guess of course, but the previous owners might have had a substantial list of creditors & a bankruptcy. Between those creditors, there may have been substantial argument over who was entitled to what, financially speaking. When the disposable assets were itemised and the bankruptcy administrator finally assigned ownership, it may have come down to the creditors being made responsible for collection of said items and within a certain timeframe & failure to do so would mean that any and all debts would be deemed satisfied. Those assigned ownership might have found it more expensive than first imagined to do so and more than the individual asset/s were worth and decided not to bother, writing off the debts incurred instead.

    Matt, if you haven't already look into getting bigger fuel tanks/pumps on site. I wouldn't be surprised if they are already there from the resort. No more 5 gallon jugs, a truck comes out and fills them.
    A 500 gallon diesel fuel tank, 500 gallon tank with ethanol free fuel (ethanol free stores way better way longer and is better for small engines).
    The V10 just needs cheap 87 though since it gets 0 MPG around the ranch lol

    Fantastic video! Great multipliers to the property! Those wooden slat ceiling? Don't tear them out...clean the attic space and put a barrier down to prevent dirt and debris from ever falling down again. Thank you all for your efforts! Desperado Ranch is going to be AWESOME!

    From what I've picked up for ponds you don't wanna get all the way to bed rock because the water will find its way out and your pond will leak. You want clay down and then you can get a chemical to mix into the water that will help plug up any possible leaks. The best option would be too talk too Lunker he knows about building ponds from experience

  • @kathyscott
    @kathyscott Год назад

    The 3 level buildings are cool, you talked about replacing the showers with tubs BUT you need to remember the need for handicapped accessible bathrooms that require walk/roll in showers and no steps which I bet those bottom levels are set up as😊. Too cool!!!

    There seems to be a copious amount of Red Wasps nests on the property. One of the best things I’ve found to combat wasps or yellow jackets is a bad-mitten racket. Wasp spray is great to kill the nest, but when they start chasing you, and they will absolutely come after you, spray is useless; a bad-mitten racket is pretty effective for knocking wasps out of the air.

    Some of those smaller homes, aren't ugly ... and are nicer than a lot of homes in rural Texas ... keep that in mind when you're trashing your buildings. Just found you this past weekend and watched the abandoned mansion transformation. You're blessed and have found a very interesting (and profitable) niche.

    I would get the Fountain working first then get the pool's cleaned out and see if either or both can be rejuvenated. I know you have the River there too, but a pool would be great for that summer heat in Texas. And the Fountain would be nice if restored. I know you have a lot of work to get to there and have enjoyed most the episodes. But would really like to see some progress making the resort useable even if is just youtubers like the group that helped clear the burnt building. Was bummed by the wine issues last episode or two. That sucked so bad all that wine spoiled. Hope you can salvage some of it. Anyway keep up the work. I know it is overwhelming but just tackle 1 structure at a time and really for guests a pool would be great....

    As your a relative newbie to backhoes, if the Cat machine seems high reved and jumpy, prehaps look into swapping it out for a John Deere. Deere backhoes are a better known than the Cat variant. The plate on the teeth was likely for finish grading work to leave a smooth surface. You should either cut the plate off, or remove it all as a unit and install new tooth caps.
