I was at this game. My brother and I, lifelong Vikings fans, sat behind the end zone that Robert Smith ran to for the score. I remember hearing the Steelers radio broadcast clip of this a few days later. Bill Hillgrove (or whatever the play by play guy's name is) said, "He's running with a floppy sock."

Also a Vikings fan and I was at this game too...1995. My uncle is a Steelers fan and had season tickets and gave them to me since he knew I was a Vikings fan. Great game to be a Vikes fan!

Robert Smith was one Helluva running back, for sure. Minnesota had 3 great RBs in a row. Herschel Walker, Robert Smith, and Adrian Peterson. Wow.

Robert Smith... The forgotten Superstar... And incredibly intelligent enough to retire very early...

      He wasn’t a superstar that’s nonsense

Dude wasn’t even a pro bowler until Moss showed up and the entire field opened up. That Vikings team before Moss was 8-8 to 9-7 mid level slop!

@@ImUseless88 Very good point, Mr. Useless... But his sweet running style was poetry in motion... Much like Sweetness and Dickerson

@@ImUseless88 Primarily because he was always hurt. He had a big year the year before Moss came and backed up T Allen his first year or two. He was very good when healthy but yeah he wasn't a superstar!

He's still my favorite RB in MN history. I was so pumped the day I saw a 90s jersey of his art a thrift store in perfect condition.. Thought it won't fit... Fit perfectly. I wear it every Sunday

That was a GREAT steeler defense he did that against!! Greg lloyd, kirkland, Brown, Greene, Carnall Lake, Darren Perry. Like, top 3 all time steeler defense. So, its not like it was against the late 70's saints, this was a top notch run, by a top notch athlete, against a top notch defense! Enough said.

He had to get out of there before someone stepped on his foot with a bunch of cleats😂

I'm sure it would have still been painful but nobody wore cleats on that old-style Astroturf, just rubber-pegged shoes or even just basketball shoes.

My god once he got/stayed healthy he was great. I believe we had an above avg Terry Allen when they drafted him. Vikings have always done well when drafting the best available athlete even when they had someone already in place. That was the very first draft I ever watched.

I was a huge Terry Allen fan. Both had injuries early on.

Would have been a hall of fame running back if he fully committed to football. Retired in his prime after his best season a year after Barry Sanders retired
