Look into joining a BASS Club! That's the most pressure free way to get into tournament fishing..As a Co angler u can Learn first hand from a lot of seasoned anglers on their boats and see how they catch em... Since u are also in the same club, it is usually a much friendlier and less competitive environment at first 🥇😊

Also make sure you're having fun and don't be afraid to do some fun fishing too to maybe try some new techniques. Did local tournaments from when I was 9 to about 15-16 years old with my dad. So about 6-7 years. All I was doing was fishing tournaments. I won 2 that entire time and really that was the only time I fished. I couldn't try new techniques, lures, etc. Was literally mostly throwing Crankbaits, Plastic worms, and creature baits.
Wasn't till I stopped going in them and took a year off that I discovered my love for fishing again. Even the beginning videos of my current channel were dedicated to me learning lures I rarely ever used. Now I go in 1-2 tournaments a year to test my skills but I mostly fun fish now.

My grandpa did that with archery for me. I was competing every weekend and a few times a week in the winter. I was good but I burned out and now don't even shoot anymore. It is definitely something to watch with the younger crowd.

I have a buddy that has been a boater for a while. I have been wanting to fish tourneys but my boat is a flat bottom duck boat with no livewell. He recently invited me to be a coangler. These are fun little team tourneys. There is usually always someone looking for a co on these type of tournaments. Find the local clubs (BASS, TBF, MLF, etc. affiliates) and ask if anyone needs a co and jump in that way. Fish co a few times, get the experience of tourney style and then be the boater.
I am hoping to get a second boat in the next year or two so that I can be a boater and get my son (3yo) into it with me.

Only tournaments I have avaliable to me are online tournaments. Those are hard to compete in cause you have no clue if there actually fishing a public access waterway or there uncles farm pond that's lousy with 5lb+ bass. I have seen fish submitted to be judged that are illegal submission where they don't follow the rules for photographing a bass yet are judged as legal submissions.

Do you think guys can compete with live scope people???? Feel there is quite a a disadvantage what are your thoughts?

Sometimes its hard to fish tournaments because alot of them or 3-4 hrs away . You have to figure travel and lodging costs

Get good at FFS before entering a tournament, bass fishing has changed. No livescope, no chance.

Not true. It’s definitely a disadvantage to not have it…but you can still win local tournaments without it 100%

I fish local tournaments and 75% or more of the boats do not have FFS. And, those that do (myself included) are not necessarily in the money.

You might be surprised at the number of local events that are starting to say "no" to FFS... there is a grass-roots movement to keep angling as a sport, not a video game.

@frankw7266 I would be surprised. I've not heard of any local tournaments banning FFS. Sorry but I'm not buying into the Randy Cult that it's cheating and destroying the fish population. There is literally no evidence to support that. However, there is a ton of evidence that sight fishing for spawning bass does affect population. Would you support banning sight fishing on beds?

So with tournaments I can bring my own partner? Also if you go solo do you have to have a partner or can you go solo? I’m very interested in this but I also need to get a boat now lol but after spending all my days driving around as a truck driver I think it’ll be relaxing.

Hey there, I watched this video and the other video from HQ, was not able to get to the excel sheet to purchase. Do you still have that up for sale? if so, pelase email that to me would be great. I am very administrative crazy, so yes I want to log all my trips out (to keep track of conditions and how each one cought). Thanks and I hope you still have this excel sheet.

Tyler really enjoy the energy ya put into your content.. but if a newbie goes as a co-angler anywhere at this time they’ll get stuck (and stuck is the correct word) with a ffs guy and never have a chance at a fish ,,, it’s the new way and it’s lousy..HAVE FUN!!!

Id fish more tournaments if it wasnt for Livescope or FFS. i hate the idea of competing against it bc its seems to be an automatic disadvantage

In my opinions if you can learn a local body of water where local tournaments are held ffs wouldn’t be needed.

    • @robertchase199

There is still a lot of tourneys won without it. The last one I went to, most of the guys were spotlocked because of the wind and fishing out the back of the boat, FFS didnt factor into it.

Been tournament fishing for 25 years. I did it because it was fun.
Ffs has made everything I’ve learned almost useless. I’m not sure I want to learn ffs because it’s not what made fishing fun for me.
