Favorite sonic memory is beating it, and then walking to my moms job to tell her, i was probably 10 and she gave me a milkshake as congratulations and then i walked home. Kind of a perfect day.

Hey, post-production Thomas. Just letting you know that you're not crazy and that, at 47:50, that isn't Tails flying in the air. That's another flying off-yellow Sonic character named Cream. They're more prominent in other Sonic games, but what you see here is their only cameo in Sonic Adventure (which kinda suits your experience of the game, all things considered).
there is actually another appearance of Cream in this game. I cant remember when exactly it takes place but she flies over the ocean from station square, I believe its during sonic or amy's playthrough
this cameo is only in the DX version btw, Cream's debut was in Sonic Advance 2 which came out in 2002 or so. at that time, Sonic Team was putting her in EVERYTHING
@GnegonGalek and in adventure 2 she's only playable/seen in the expansion multi-player mode "battle" she doesn't get her own chance to shine until adventure 3 for the gba
It is also worth noting that the model looks far more brown due to issues with modeling on DX pc release iirc
she also hasn't been a game in like...a decade i think. lots of comics and other stuff but not the games.
A lot of this jank is actually port specific. The constant pulling towards the right wall thing, for example, did not happen in the Dreamcast version.
But let's be real here, the Dreamcast version was hardly jank-free.
the Dreamcast version even looks better. sure, characters have less polygons and the resolution is smaller, but there's colored light, daytime filters, etc that overall give a sense of artistic direction
As someone who only has the Dreamcast version, I know the Dreamcast isn’t 100% broken, but I’m pretty sure is that DX Director’s Cut is so much more buggy.
@@GnegonGalekhe water looks great on Dreamcast. I don’t like how in DX the water looks artificial and all… it has sort of a cyan glow to it.
The Dreamcast was much better than Gamecube and PC, it wasn't free of jank but you could complete the game without going through a wall by accident
the DX ports are based off of a earlier version of the game without some of the bug fixes in the final dreamcast port
The camera has a mind of its own, the hitbox has a mind of its own, the music has a mind of its own... Truly, a masterpiece
It's not that I don't understand this game's flaws. Like, I do, genuinely. On a technical level, this game is held together with scotch tape and craft glue. But the fact that countless children were able to play this game to completion with no major problems is fucking baffling when you see how many grown ass adults on the internet can't understand simple things like holding forward during a scripted loop-de-loop.

Big Is the easiest character in the entire game. By the way if you didn't have the instruction manual you could literally just click the how to play menu on big and it would literally tell you you have to press down to hook a fish once they have your lure in their mouth.
Most of Bigs campaign levels take like 5 minutes the rest of the time is looking for upgrades.

This is the first time I've heard someone say this about DX (For context: DX broke the lighting and changed a lot of the textures as well as the models for the main cast. They also broke some continuity with Speed Highway doing this, as the building you end the stage in is supposed to be the building in Station Square that you end up at after completing the stage)
Also loved watching the madness that is the 2011 PC port
In Tails' story, Eggman's backup plan was to fire a nuke within visual range of himself, and he thought he'd be around afterwards to build Eggmanland over its rubble?
And then when it's a dud, he plans to go to the missile and detonate it manually, while he's 0 feet away from the nuke?
Does this "greatest scientific genius in the world" not know what nukes do to people who're within their blast radius?
TBF he has teleported before, even in this game. could've just disapered into a cloud of dust like after the chaos 2 transformation
One of his voice lines when racing Tails is, "I'll take the whole city with me," so I assume he was just throwing a temper tantrum and wanted to destroy it out of spite rather than with a plan. He did survive the Egg Carrier blowing up, though, so maybe he could take a missile too.
Nobody in game said what kind of missile it is. It coulda just been filled with gunpowder for all we know

@@midgaurThe buggy version is the only way to play on PC. It's also pretty unintuitive. I like this game too, but people who don't like it aren't trying to slander it.

I remember watching these streams through one of the roughest periods of my life. I ended up having to run out of an awful living situation, but watching you play this game for the first time really helped (even if it was frustrating for you)! Thanks for playing :)
As someone who grew up with this game and still absolutely loves and adores it unironically with every fiber of my being, nothing makes me laugh more than seeing people experience the sheer amount of jank that is this game for the first time all these years later
I mean, the Dreamcast version was actually playable. It even looked pretty great for its time, particularly the water. Sometimes it feels like Sega goes out of their way to make sure the ports of good and decent entries in the Sonic series are as bad as possible, so as to properly match the quality of the worst games that were terrible on first release.
hour+ therm videos are frankly, my new favourite thing.
Biggest problem with sonic adventure here is you’re playing the DX port that was then ported to PC. The DX port already had major issues that the original game didn’t have, and the PC port of the DX version made them worse. I think there’s a mod someone made called like better DX or smth that’s goal is to remake it closer to the original Dreamcast version and not the GameCube one. Would highly recommend looking into that because the original was the best version of the games 😔😭
This isn’t Sonic Adventure. It’s Sonic Adventure Director’s Cut DX, a truly abysmal port of a much better game. Obviously I know you may not have known this, but you are playing the absolute worst version of the game. Better to emulate the original Dreamcast version, and best to play on actual Dreamcast hardware.
99% of the bugs you face in this game do not exist in the original release.
Just mentioning that here in case you ever decide to play a better version of the game. :)

If you whoever is reading this, for some ungodly reason thinks you need this game in your life in 2023. Do yourself a favor and don't play this without the Better SADX steam mod pack.
Its a painless one google search for it, choose whether you want the dreamcast looks or not (I recommend it tho). And the game will be actually playable.

your impressions remind me a lot of my own on my first playthrough, and I first played this game soon after DX came out 20 years ago. actually, mine might've been even worse cuz I didn't have a controller back then and played it on keyboard... the horror.

People gotta realize that this game is broken and thats okay lol. People get upset when a game is busted or acts weird but its also part of the love with these old Sonic games. Therm obviously likes this game but is also reacting pretty fairly to its rougher edges.

This video is hysterical, I remember playing this game as the director's cut on the gamecube back in the day and I still love how janky controls are sometimes. I will say though, Sonic Adventure 2 has a much better story and levels in general, same with the chao garden.
Oh yeah in SADX I'd always accidentally abuse my poor chao, which wasn't a problem nearly as often in SA2

I cannot wait for Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. I've never been a huge fan of Adventure 1/DX, but I really like SA2B for some reason. Maybe the fact that there's so much content in that game is why. I've also just remembered what my username is, but despite that I'm not a die-hard sonic fan.

Sonic Adventure...for the Dreamcast...not the DX version that made the game way uglier and glitchier.

You can't review a shit port and then claim you know anything about what you're talking about when you're objectively playing the worst version of the game.
That'd be like if people reviewed silent hill 2 based on the god awful port it got on ps3 bc Konami wanted a quick cash grab. If you dont wanna experience the art as intended, fine.
