Well that was 15 mins to do one pen. No wonder pen cleaning is my most hated part of this hobby. I find no matter how long I take cleaning a pen there's always just a little bit more ink left somewhere in the works. My own methods include a large sink, a running tap, a water container and a bulb syringe. I tried an ultrasonic cleaner once. Sadly it 'died' after a very short time and it was returned for a full refund.

I'd rather ask a stupid question than make a stupid mistake, but this applies to the black Smoltem right? I just got my Octopus edition and want to make sure I don't damage it!

I find that ultem is pretty stain resistant so perhaps water alone without alcohol could keep the pen pretty clean?

No need between fills of the same ink. Unless there is a weird smell (hint of bacteria!) or the feed/nib dried up a bit.
