I'm using Ultem everyday for work and I know this is a great piece of art.
I know I'm going to get this pocket Ultem as well.
Thank you for this review David. And Congrats, Ian!
Certainly an interesting option for anyone in the market for a pocket pen with a large nib. It's really quite short when capped and impressively long when posted thanks to the posting threads. Damn, now I want one!
There are quite a few pocket pens with #6 nibs available these days, with the PenBBS 471 being the budget option, and the Kaweco Supra my favourite. As for #8 nibs, the only other I know of is by William Shakour - the Pocket Titan.
@@archivist17, The Supra is a bit too much for many people, and the metal threads can get very squeaky, but yeah, there are options, for sure.
Beautiful pen and ink. TY David for your review.
My eyedroppered full size ultem Schon pen is by far my favorite and most reliable pen, thanks to the well engineered design and gaskets. It also never runs out of ink even with a huge stub nib. I didn't even have to modify the feed to increase the flow.
Looks beautiful, very tempting, but $240 is a tough sell
The increased girth(especially in the grip), is a nice improvement for me after the Pocket 6. I wonder if your positive experience with the posting threads not crossthreading is because they have blunt starts, meaning the beginning portion of the threads has been machined away until the point at which the thread reaches its full width. Can you tell if that's the case, David? It's the only thing I wish ensso improved on the Piuma Pocket, which is otherwise a perfect pocket pen design in my eyes; as is this design from Schon. Finally pocket pens aren't terrible anymore! I'd been frustrated for over a decade looking for a design that wasn't uncomfortable or flawed in some major way.
I'm not sure if it existed at the time of this video, but when you mentioned the 200 buck price tag I was so happy that I ordered the Gravitas Ultem pocket dropper for far less.... I've seen more favorable reviews of the Gravitas pocket design and feel they are likely offering more for less with this pocket pen concept in Ultem
These are very nice pens, but a bit pricey at $240.00. I know that they are hand machined, but that's still expensive.
QUITE expensive, even with its "space age" polymer plastic.
Why is this so much more than the machined AL, brass, or copper versions of the pocket six?
I thought that the ēnsso Japanese Ebonite Pocket Pen was on the "high end."
$240 for a plastic pocket pen with a stainless steel nib is "in line?"
Seriously?
I've been waiting for your review on this pen! Do you have any comments/observations on the difference in thickness for the pocket ultem? Is it the same thickness as the full sized ultem pen? Thank you!
They are similar. I don't notice much, if any difference in thickness.
@@FigbootonPens thanks for your response!
Even $100 for a pocket pen is not cheap, but I think pens like the Pocket Ultem greatly underscore the relative value you get from Ben Walsh at Gravitas.
ULTEM or polyetherimide is a thermoplastic resin that is strong and slightly transparent.
Where did you find the 380 titanium nib? I can’t seem to find one
Beaufort Ink. Uncertain if they still offer them.
I ❤ it
My thoughts are i like it, but far too expensive.
Wow an expensive little eyedropper that will still burp!
What causes burping?
@@МыколаНетребко A somewhat controversy topic. Most say when the ink gets low in the barrel, the heat of your hand transfers to the air in the barrel causing it to expand and forces more ink from the nib than you need or want.
Nice design, and I appreciate the engineering quality of Ultem, but I don't like the look. Shallow, I know.
