    I’m great that you guys like to try Lao food. I’m Lao, who live far away, but always craving for Lao food. My favorite Lao foods are: 1. beef jerky, 2. AwLarm or beef stew that you had it. 3. Larp can be make from beef, fish, or pork. 4. Sy-Oual or Sy-Kar is same as Sausage, but Lao style. 5. Grill chicken.

    Loving the Lao videos!. You'll have to try the noodle soups, Khao Peuk sin and Khao poon (probably can get vegetarian versions too) and with sticky rice eat in dipping sauces called Jeow Mak Len (tomato salsa) or Jeow Het (mushroom dip) also you usually eat Sticky rice with your hands, kinda like dipping Naan bread in butter chicken. Won't say you guys ate it wrong, but normally you'd take a piece of the stick rice, kinda roll it between your thumb and finger and use it to kind of scoop some food and eat it.

    Love your video. We'll be heading to Luang and Vien Laos via Xishuang (China) in the next few weeks. The Patongo is literally a white sugar cake deep fried in oil can be eaten on its own as well as dipping into thick black coffee only (no milk) or with rice porridge. As for the currency notes, sometimes it can be a scam as many foreigners aren't familiar with the money and by the time you finish counting to the last note, the person whom you dealt with could have disappeared. You often end up with less notes or with some other fake notes added to the bundle. Good to carry lots of small notes with you or change big notes with reputable stores. Hope you both had good fun staying in Lao or Laos.

      I never tried d sticky rice d way d Thai n Laos people have it, with savoury dishes. I had sticky rice with mango, that's quite lovely. D Malaysian like sticky rice too esp with their desserts. D Malay also like to have sticky rice with savoury dishes, like pulut kuning, a turmeric sticky rice, or ketupat palas, sticky rice in a triangular weaved pocket of palas leaf n cooked with coconut milk, or lemang, sticky rice n coconut milk stuffed in bamboo n cooked over wood fire. We have all that sticky rice with either beef or chicken rendang, curry, peanut sauce n also serunding, spicy meat floss. Well here I go again, rambling with some info that's not related to Laos.

    That soup is called Gaeng Dor Mai. It's a very local Laotian dish! Glad you tried it out.
    You have to try Mee-Kha-Tee and Khao-Poon. If you like Khao Soi in Thailand, you would love these two Laotian noodle dishes! Khao Poon is on the spicier side depending on how it's being made since it is red curry based. Mee-Khat-Tee is not spicy as it is more coconut and a little red curry.
    You also need to go to the market and try sai oua. It's Laotian sausage. Also, the sticky rice is meant to eat with your hands. :) HAHA! Y'all so cute! :) You have to use your fingers, dig into the sticky rice, roll it into a small ball like a small snowball, then dip it into the dish that you are eating while grabbing a portion of the dish to eat it all at once -- almost like a very mini taco. Mee-Kha-Tee and Khao-Poon should not be eaten with sticky rice though. :) Unless the soup is THAT good and you wanna get every ounce of it. Then get sticky rice and clean the bowl out! LOL
    Have fun! Can't wait for more videos of you guys in Laos!

    Hi guys … nice video clips … watching from New York , USA 🇺🇸

  • @Bubbleebubblo

    Love your video so much! Luang Prabang is my favourite place to chill, I went there four times in 9 months even though I lived in Vientiane. Watching your video makes me want to go there again😭 Dylan’s food is called ’Oc larm’ btw that’s a real luang prabang local dish. I recommend to try the rice noodles that’s close to Joma bakery, the shop opens about 5pm and it’s superb for me hehehe basically pork stock and rice noodles with pork!!! And of course papaya salad, sticky rice, the deep fried river weed called ‘kai pan’ and a chili paste with buffalo skin ‘jeow bong’. Hope you enjoy your trip in Laos 💝

    • @Bubbleebubblo

      Btw it used to be full of shops on the main road but because of the pandemic.
      Also don’t forget to go to the morning market tbh 6am is a good time to go, there will be full of shops. And later ride a bicycle in the morning, it’s so chill and nice weather and not busy roads. I recommend a cafe called ‘Saffron’ coffee is good but just tell them less sweet cus sometimes it gets too sweet lol and also best bakery is at ‘Zurich Cafe’.👍🏻👍🏻

    Check out Phon Huang restaurant for the best spring rolls in town. You take a lettuce leaf, add glass noodles, spring roll, bean shoots, top it with peanut sauce, wrap it into a little parcel and pop it in your mouth whole! Lao style. I had an amazing experience here in 2003. I stayed at a place for 90 pence a night! Wonderful people who insisted I ate with them for free also as the power was shut down in the city from 9pm in those days. Actually, Lao people speak Lao. Northern Thai people speak Esan, which is very very similar to Lao.
      We're kind of saying the same thing but the way you're saying it is that the whole country of Lao speaks the dialect of one little corner of Thailand. I would argue that it's the opposite.

    • @jasonlilley707
      @jasonlilley707 2 года назад

    • @chadd9748
      @chadd9748 2 года назад +2

      @@jasonlilley707 all good. In the end, we're basically saying the same thing. I think a lot of Lao people probably understands straight Thai (like what Dillon speaks) especially in touristy areas like LPB or Vientiane. But overall Thai and Esan are so different.
      My dad is Lao and my mom is Thai Esan and growing up, I grew up speaking Lao but could not understand Thai at all. Now, I can understand some but that's because now I watch a lot of Thai RUclipsrs so I can try to learn the language more.

    • @graduate411
      @graduate411 2 года назад +1

      It is so weird to hear comments like, "[in] Laos they speak Esan", which is like saying "in England, they speak American/Australian/Canadian". The language is actually Lao. Just like Americans, Australians and Canadians speak English; Esan is only a region in Thailand made up predominately of ethinic Lao. The Lao people in Thailand or "Esan" speak Lao.
