LAOS-CHINA High-Speed Train to VIENTIANE 🇱🇦

- After a lovely start to our trip in Laos, exploring the city of Luang Prabang, seeing the gorgeous waterfalls and eating delicious local Lao foods - it’s time to head to the capital. We are so excited to be doing this trip on the brand-new Lao-China high-speed railway.
This train actually goes all the way from China, with future plans potentially even involving stations in Singapore. Today, we are simply taking it from Luang Prabang to Vientiane, the capital of Laos. With ticket sales being a bit more confusing than we are used to for this train, and only Chinese or Lao nationals being able to purchase the tickets, we were just happy to get our hands on some! The trip was gorgeous and SO much faster than the other option… taking a 10-hour bus!

Subed, great video guys, are you planning to travel to China also?
The two of you take the Chinese high-speed rail, I thought you were from China, but you have never been to China? Very strange😇
@@redbelief we are not from China, the train we took started and ended in Laos (but it is the Laos-China train)
Try jakarta bandung...high speed buket train ...😊
As a Chinese, Im so happy to see this progressive relationship between China and Laos.

This railway you guys make them great (fast and quality). I hope China will invest and support us for the Hanoi - Saigon high-speed railway. China's railway projects are monumental and amazing. In Vietnam we admire China for the railway.
@@vinhvanhoang257 But your communist government wanted Japan for ODA.
I hope this new high-speed railway will bring more prosperity to Laos, and long live the friendship between China and Laos!

Finally, this highspeed train will all the way to Singapore. Someday!
I am happy to see my fellow Asean/Asian countries making good progress and success like this one for Laos. Congratulations to all people of Laos for a good job!
❤️❤️
If you ever come to China, the train stations are massive. They are similar to airports tbh.. Also, this train just looks like a normal train in China not the bullet ones.Bullet trains in China go as fast as 200-350 km/h (120-220 mph). The seats with this one are quite basic too but atleast this train cuts down journey time for all people.. thumbs up for the convenience.!
Wow that sounds so cool!! We would love to visit China one day 🤗
And if you speak up against the government you’ll get banned from high-speed trains...
@@CryptocurrencyInsider really? Have u experienced it yourself here in China?

I think all the tunnels along the railroad is key to Laos problems. Travelling by road or shipping goods across country takes so much time that its an adventure. The railroad cuts right through the mountains, so its going to be huge for Laos.
Definitely a step in the right direction
What do you think a mountain is ?? Nothing ?? .what do you want to see ?? Shopping centres ?.. the train will ruin Laos
@@CarlosSanchez-dv1ew So far, the modern world has only given Laos bombs and pain. It's about time they get something positive as well.
Ive been yo Laos travelling for many years love the country and the people ..im just saying be carefull what you wish for regards dealing with China ...and most up country laos could not afford a train journey

I look forward to your videos all the time - love the energy you both have and how happy you seem to discover new things. Keep up the good work!
Ah thank you so much 🤗💖 we really appreciate that!! More fun stuff to come soon!!
Why so many people complaining that "160 km/h" is not High-Speed enough? The train is passing through challenging mountain terrain and tunnels, which cannot be compared with routes on flat terrain with 250+ km/h, due to safety reason.
and low cost ,their economy is not enough to afford more speed ,and not necessary ,160km/h is quite fast for now ,with developing ,they could have better infrastructure in the future.
In the future, the sections connecting the south will be more high speed because of the flatter geography
more speed, more energy consumption/cost.
160kmph is affordable.
because they are ignorant and they dont know the geography. they take for granted.
不止地形原因,这条铁路还要负责货运职能。

Just this small stretch costed Loa 25% of its GDP with high interest rate by chinese and also Lao doesn't have that big population to take advantage to this system or to keep it running and making money, main purpose of this line is to extract natural resources from lao and transport it to China.

Technically not a high-speed service as it goes at 'only' 160km/h (~100 mph) but of course even that is unheard of in Laos or neighbouring countries except of course China itself. Good for Laos to have implemented such a project. Good passenger transport is very important.
Sure but with the amount of at grade (steep, yes) tunnels it's as good as high speed can get, considering the terrain and tunnels is the onvestment
Since 2008-2014, Tran Euro and many countries, Technically a high-speed service as it goes at 160km/h (~100 mph).
@@sirisakpimchan7014 160km/h is not considered high-speed in any country.
@@DS.J Thailand only, more than 200km/h is considered high-speed service.
@@sirisakpimchan7014 That's right, in most countries 200km/h (sometimes 250km/h) would usually be considered HSR. Mostly going after European definition of 200km/h for upgraded lines and 250km/h for new lines of *design* speed. 160km/h is not a HSR by any standard, even though it's still quite fast.

I loved Laos when I went there in the 1990s, so great they have a train now.
Oh cool! Oh yes it’s definitely a futuristic addition - we were so happy to check it out!
Great train, massive debt. High chance of default by the government in coming years.
@@Gunyoro LOL. most of the time train tickets were sold out. Even these 2 vloggers could not get train tickets. and here you talk about default because of the train. Only don't know if it has to do with jealousy or naivety or ignor..
@@Gunyoro 这就是你们不发展基建的理由吗
@@applebee3735 Oh mate.. do you really think the money made off a fully ticketed train will pay off the debt?
Let's talk reality - the majority of the money earned goes straight to the operational expenditure of the infrastructure of the train (i.e., simply, maintenance, upgrades and administration costs). What little they may have (if any) after will only contribute a small amount to to the bill they'll be getting to service the debt. Then combine the debt with the interest on top, it becomes exceedingly hard for the Lao government to service. Since the Lao government went into the agreement with China - the benefactor of the debt - at an almost 50/50 equity to debt split, a split way to low on the equity side to manage relative to the Lao governments intake - they fall into a 'debt-trap' with China.
That, unfortunately, means a political trap by the Chinese government to hold influence and power on poorer SEA countries through debt (hence the defensive reply in Mandarin when I raised the issue of debt). If the Laos government contest anything China does - China pushes for the money back putting a strain on the Lao government, if Laos agrees to Chinas needs and wants - China takes a 'softer' approach on the repayments. For what it's worth, the Group of 7 nations are raising their own funds to combat these practices to fund nations like Laos so they are still able to develop infrastructure but with more realistic budgets and repayments.
If you are indeed Laotian, I am in no way attacking the progress of your country. I'm just making you aware of the agreement that's been made and the political impact it has on your country on the world stage. Laos should be free to decide it's own decisions; not forced into following China due to debt.
Thanks lads for the inspiration, just getting started myself
Awesome!! Best of luck 🤗🤗

I bought tickets for this train on railway station in LP without any extra charges so it is possible to buy them by foreigners but a lot of hotel owners say that no because they want extra charges. And copy of passport is enough to buy them :) our passport was in motorbike rental so copy was ok ;)
That’s so lucky because we didn’t have the ability to do so! 🤗🤗
It looks like a very nice train. It just looks like everybody is very close to each other and the seats are not as large as I would like to think they would be. But once you got your accommodation. It looks very nice. And it’s a plus that the mini bar is stocked up with lots of goodies. Very nice video. And also I love the puka shell necklace that you’re wearing lately. Because it looks nice and thin not like the larger puka shells. Where did you get that? I’m hoping to order one like that if I can. Or I might just have to go to Laos to get it😊
Ah yes you’re right, perhaps the seats are slightly more narrow - it didn’t feel crowded though! The accomodation was amazing 😍🤗
