  • The Boten-Vientiane railway is the Lao section of the Laos-China Railway , running between the capital Vientiane and the northern town of Boten on the border with Yunnan, China. The line was officially opened on 3 December 2021.
    A collaborative project between Laos and China, the line's northern end is directly connected to the Chinese rail system at Mohan in Yunnan, through the Yuxi-Mohan railway, and has provisions in the south to link up with the Bangkok-Nong Khai high-speed railway in Thailand and possibly all the way to Singapore via HSR. The railway ends at Vientiane South cargo station. The Boten-Vientiane railway is an integral section of the central line on the Kunming-Singapore railway, and was constructed as part of the Belt and Road Initiative

    The Americans dropped 2 million tons of bombs on Laos during the Vietnam War. China has helped to rebuild the country.

      Lets hope, they dont bankrupt the country like others. Leaving that country owe a lot of money to China. Where they have no way to pay it back. China tend to over sell an idea. But when put into action. Has zero returns.

    The high-speed railway in Laos was built with Chinese assistance. The United States dropped two million bombs in Laos. During the construction process, Chinese construction companies cleared many bombs. Moreover, the Laos high-speed railway has to pass through many mountains and rivers, making construction very difficult. For safety reasons, the speed is limited. Speed 200 kilometers/hour.The U.S. government scolds China every day, but is unwilling to help third world countries.The United States brought wars and bombs to the world, and China brought development and infrastructure to the world.

    be a little more careful in laos because it's a bit more of the wild west. you're be fine if you just stick to normal tourist sightseeing but stay away from any vices where undesirables hang out. that includes casinos and clubs which might be innocent enough in other countries but are run by criminal enterprises there. china really cracked down on these vices in the past decade which is why there's almost no crime nowadays, but the side effect are the gang bosses setting up shop outside of china. laos sees more of it because it's right next door and is relatively poor so dirty money can make local law look the other way.

    • @ThePatriot-gm1fg
      @ThePatriot-gm1fg 6 месяцев назад

      @alanshannon3884 I think they're now allowing Thai and Chinese SIM cards to be used for signing up to the app too. Once you've installed and registered yourself on it, you no longer need the Lao or other acceptable SIM. It's only required to initially sign up. Lao SIM cards don't work abroad, so the only way you could have booked a ticket beforehand using the app, would have been to purchase a SIM card from one of the vendors at the border and booked your ticket right there.
      BTW, you could have also booked the train from any station along the line in China. I assume you came from Kunming or Xishuangbanna? Could have gotten on the train there, all the way to Luang Prabang. That's how most people do it these days, unless you happened to travel around the remoter parts of Banna before arriving.
      I'm familiar with the land border crossing you used, but when I've used it, it's because I'm driving. Can't bring the car across the border into China without an expensive tour, so it's parked at China immigration. I then catch a taxi to Mohan train station to take me to my final destination (usually Kunming).

    I thought you guys have seen bars in Chinese bullet trains before but didn't order anything? And in addition I've heard that you can now order food and drinks online while riding in a bullet train in China, so that's probably why having a bar in the train is getting obsolete now.

      High-speed rail network ordering, you need to get food at the next stop and expensive. Passengers are still used to buying food immediately from the flight attendants.

      @@user-xy3jh9hp01j They do look like flight attendants aye. I wished Chinese female airline flight attendants wore those hats too lol. But maybe considered not so convenient when working/serving customers on a plane? I don't know.. But still so beautiful lol.

      Lao did not even have any passenger train service before this one so 160km/h is nothing to brush off.
      *KEEP THIS IN MIND:* MURCA! HAD one of the best passenger rail networks for nearly 120 years but starting around the 1960s that rail passenger in MURCA! went all to heelll and now MURCAN! rail passengers are quite happy when their train is making 130km/h.
      THEN THERE IS "india": the British built "indian" rail network built in the 1800s that was the envy of ASIA in the 1950s......... today "indians" LOVE to BOAST that their "bullet trains" operate at a "furious" 150km/h.
