The one thing I love about the song is that it doesn't glorify war like most propaganda or patriotic songs do. When Johnny Comes Marching Home British Grenadiers The Sacred War Panzerlied Doki no Sakura This song tells war like it is, a nightmarish hell where the thoughts that run through your head are, "Will I meet the same death these young men have?", "What's my purpose here?", "What am I really fighting for?", "If I die here I'll only know while my loved ones cries for me."
Not sure if When Johnny Comes marching Home glorifies war either. The lyrics usually give context that the soldier returning home is greeted again and people celebrate his arrival, or there’s the more slower version of the tune, making it sound emotional and probably giving context that the soldier was KIA, and his body was returned home.
Wasnt the British Grendiers just a march to help keep troops doing what they are doing like keeping in step and everything in the Line Infantry period? I don't think it has any vocals just drums and fifels

I don't see why something can't be depressing and catchy at the same time. But I do know that in American culture, it is uncommon, to the point of non existent.
