    Can confirm this one does work (using it for a while). My advice: whenever you see a video like this, google what the NDU (Network Data Usage service) does. It gives you insight instead of just trying to change a number because you saw a video on RUclips that told you to do so (no disrespect to the uploader of the video here; all warnings were in place :) )

    I did this on my system last week. i7-6700k, GTX980 TI. My Issue was micro stutters that weren't too bad but, very annoying and random CTD's with the 737 mainly on approach. No more CTD's and it did smooth things out. I do not look at frames. It's either smooth or not, and it is very smooth with a mix of high an ultra settings for my system.

      my game usually freezes very briefly on landings. I'll be on short final, get a micro freeze, then it'll come back as I'm touching down. very annoying. always thought this was an issue with my system but it's really just the game being unoptimized.

    This works - in a comparison, before the tweak my FPS would briefly dip to about 25 when panning to the left. After the tweak, it dips 29 to 30 fps and after a few times it remains constant with no dips and no stutters. @@paulkirkland3263 Are you really sure that your terrain LOD setting is maxed out (which is 400)? If yes, you don't really need to set it above 200 as there is no noticeable visual improvement but the performance starts decreasing rapidly each time you increase this value, so I'd keep it at max. 200 and rather have a higher framerate

    • @paulkirkland3263

      @@ResurrectorRTX I had TLOD set to maximum (400) to impose the maximum strain before making a comparison for this tweak, but you are right of course - a lower setting such as 200 is perfectly adequate. First I heard from that tweek i didn´t want to try. But as more and more say it works and after this vid I did it. From my feelings panning around with views is much better in PMDG 737. I think midrange systems like mine benefit more from it then high end systems which anyway have good performance. @@737simviator Google flicker rate my friend. You are confusing your eyes fps (which is between 30 and 60 BTW for most of us and not 25) and the flickering of the screen. The speed of your screen refreshing allows your eyes to perceive the information as a continual stream instead of flashes of light. The higher the frequency, the less ability for humans to detect this ‘flicker’ or refreshing of the screen

    • @PippetWhippet
      @PippetWhippet 2 года назад +2

      @@737simviator Eyes are really complex, and to try to boil down the way they work to a single number is absolute nonsensical. Individual rods and cones in your eyes have their own rate that they deliver new information. This varies depending on whether they are a rod or a cone, their our nervous position in your eye, the hormonal condition of your body etc, but to be blunt, it's measured in the millions in "frames per second term". The "refresh rate" of your eye is not the hold up.
      The problem is your nervous system and your brain. I say problem, but, it's this way for a reason, and that reason is to allow you to function as a human being. Your nervous system can only transfer signals at the rate that your brain asks it too, and the brain optimises itself for different situations.
      If you're a world class tennis player, in the final of Wimbledon, ready to receive a break point serve, your brain will be giving everything it has to your eyes, to give you the visual fidelity you need to return that serve. This sensation is often described as "time slowing down" and people often can't remember that moment, because their brain literally stops recording memories, to give every molecule of atp to visual fidelity and nothing else. People go temporary deaf as well, because again, their brain is getting every piece of information possible from their eyes. Their "refresh rate" of individual rods and cones will be in the thousands, however, this still doesn't give us a frame rate because every rod and cone will be out of sync to each other, and some providing read information at different rates to others. How do you boil that down to a single number?
      More ordinarily, your brain will be managing visual information alongside dozens of other tasks and will happily give minimal attention to your eyes, rendering you blind except for certain genetic and learned danger signs. Maybe the silhouette of a parent with raised hands will snap you into fight or flight if your parents spent 18 years hitting you, but other than that, you're not seeing at all.
      Even, if after all those variables, you decide that it's still technically possible to come up with a single fps number for your eyes, now you've got to consider that before your brain interprets the information delivered by your eyes, it adds information to it. Information that it expects to be there but isn't. And then during interpretation, it adds yet more information, based on the content of the images it's interpreting. How do you even begin to measure the "framerate" of your imagination??!!
      So given how utterly unique your visual fidelity is depending on your genetics, life experience, brain chemistry etc etc etc, it's perhaps a little more clear why talking about your eye's fps doesn't make any sense, and why some people literally cannot see poor framerate and stuttering that drives other people absolutely mad. Except when they can! Someone generally happy with 20 fps can find 120fps intolerable during a dark souls boss fight because of this very reason!

Now I have to see my psychiatrist! :-D I am always a little hesitant fiddling around in the registry but chances are pretty good that someone found something, that indeed has a positive impact for one specific application/use case, so it is very temtping. The feedback around this "hack" is very positive and NDU seems to be a process checking (constantly) if there had been new hardware plugged into your USB ports. So my first test will be to disable it and then plug and unplug USB devices to see if this still works and if it does and if it helps getting rid of those stutters when moving the camera, then thanks for bringing this up!

    1: NDU is a monitoring tool for network usage and can only imagine it would increase performance by improving scenery loading times. I don't know how FPS would be improved with that off.

    Thanks! My fps were pretty okay, but I tried it a few days ago anyways. MSFS really runs a lot smoother. The occasional stuttering on airport addons (EDDM is my home base) is almost gone. As far as I know, NDU is not only there for measuring the data consumption, is has also something to do with detecting hardware changes, USB connections etc. but so far, I've noticed no differences at all. It even seems, that Windows 11 is running a little bit smoother or seems more responsive than before.
    I really wish Microsoft would finally fix the thread scheduler on Windows. It is constantly shuffling around processes and threads between the CPU cores. If another process like NDU needs more power, presumably for occasional checks, this really hurts. Due to architectural constraints on older AMD CPUs (everything before Zen 3: Ryzen 3000 and older) it's even worse. That's also why many programms run better on Linux (it's a little more complicated than that, but I don't want to bore you to death with technical details :D).

    Why didn't you show a comparison of your 'great performance boost'. At least when you tell people to mess around with their registry it would be nice to show the actual difference ingame it makes for you. Video is 5 minutes long showing a forum page while the actual tweak part was done in 10 seconds. This tweak has been around for a while now and for lot's of people it has 0 impact on performance (including myself). So nice effort but a quick comparison to actually proof your 'great performance' would be appreciated.

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  2 года назад +2

      I actually considered doing that, but decided against it in the end.
      The reason is that I'd have needed to create two identical situations for it in order to compare the two. One before and one after the change.
      Tweaks behave differently on all peoples computers. Even if I showed you how the change was on my machine, it might be different on yours. And then people will ask "why is it different".
      The overall feedback on the tweak is very good in the forum topic and on my own system I saw the huge advantage as well. For me that is enough "evidence" that it works.
      Most importantly though, it has been demonstrated that you won't break anything by this tweak. So if you don't like it you can always easily revert to the original setting.

    I don't understand why decent streamers risk their reputation with snake oil fixes ... I've seen another one with a similarly useless fix recently. Sorry that's a clear thumbs down from me because this fix has been around for months and debunked many times. Better tell people to upgrade their network drivers than anything else. There was an issue in the NDU in 2018 that's been long fixed and now people waste time with this. Yes I know you will say it helped you. But it's just a rabbit hole and advising people to change their registry when they have no clue what it means is just reckless in my opinion.

      The answer is - as you already pointed out - because it helped. The difference on my system is enormous.
      I am normally not the person to start tweaking my files, if you watched some of the Q&As in my livestream you will have heared me say many times that I did not actually do many changes to my system at all. But when I came across this one it made a real difference. You may be right in there having been an issue in 2018 that has long been fixed. Yet here I sit, try this tweak after some friends reported getting a great benefit out of it, and it works.
      My aim with this channel is to help people with their flying. Clearly an easy way to improve their experience fits into this category, does it not?
      The reactions to this video seem to confirm my assumption that not many people knew about this tweak, despite it being around for a while already.
