No-Cost Cabin Baseboard & Trim from Burnt Pine & Reclaimed Lumber.

- Hopefully you've seen the video a few episodes back where I mill logs of burnt Ponderosa Pine from Red Moose Ranch. Well, some of this lumber is used for baseboard and other interior trim in the off grid Spur Cabin.
And by now you've probably heard of the old house that used to be standing on the Spur property. We took it down a couple years ago due to it being unsafe, but we kept a lot of the wood from that house. In this video, one particular piece gets used in the cabin for unique woodwork. You'll NEVER see this anywhere else, because it's completely unique. And beautiful! Check it out.
Big question! What color would YOU use, and what do you think WE will choose? For what, you ask? It's in this video! Which by the way, is the second last video of this build series. How time flies when you're having fun!
Want more fun? Then subscribe to this channel so you never miss out on what's coming next.
I appreciate you watching @LifeontheMoose!

I've really enjoyed these videos. A long way off from buying a piece of property of my own and building a cabin in the middle of nowhere. Not sure if you're interested, but it might be fun to do a Q&A video at the end of this.
Thank you! 🙏
I will take that under consideration.
Was thinking about that Bellyboard and when it was originally milled and used, who was President and what were the times like, reflecting on the passing of Bud Anderson at age of 102, triple ace, born in 1922. Whole societies come an' gone, a fingertip away and the distance across all of time and still eternally unreachable. Only thing tangible is the piece of wood and the memory it holds. The memory of the guy that nailed it on the old house and your memory of nailing it on the new and the hundred or so years between you and him being the only to touch it, thereby shaking hands through the timber, down through time, the ages and on. Nice touch.
Agree! The history fascinates me. Think about when that board was a seedling…probably the time the US became a country.
Mooi werk Patrick👌, geniet elke keer van de prachtige omgeving😍, in gezelschap van de wilde dieren. Jullie gaan zeker genieten van je huis. Groeten vanuit België 🇧🇪.
Hi Belgium! Glad you could make it. Thanks for watching!
that bellyband board is gorgeous. Great idea about keeping the notches
Worked out so well!
I guess Red Moose Ranch really is better than the mathematical winner Deer Butt Ranch.
Ha true!!
Have enjoyed watch your spur cabin come along. It’s really nice.
I appreciate that!
Hunter green ☺
Looks great!!!!!!!!!! I would paint the door red but you probably bought yellow. Lol
Hint: we did NOT buy yellow. 🙏
The cabin is looking very cozy 🙂. Looking forward to see how Karen decorates. I vote red for the door color.
Thanks and me too!
Green
green door, of course
Id paint the door 🚪 RED....goes with the Moose.
oh man.......that ol burnt house piece just made it...GREEN.
Agree!
For the door I'm thinking Black to match the other metal or Dark Green for a contrast
I’d paint it yellow but I’ll guess it’s green paint in the can.
Door paint: a green to match the lower part of the cabin.
Green, the same color as the metal siding.
your patience and craftsmanship are inspirational
That means a lot! 🙏
…Although Karen would LOL at the idea of me being patient!
Hello from Midway,Tx Patrick you just keep those checks coming and we are good 👍, by the way can you spot me say 2 weeks pay ? Boy I would appreciate that… thanks always look forward to you videos…. Dark green for the door ?
Consider it spotted! 🙏
I wish I would have collected and saved the hundreds if not thousands of rail spikes I tripped over as a kid. Transporting them may have been a problem for the past 60 some years but the stuff you can do with them?! I'm sure I would have ended up learning just one more skill, blacksmithing, if I had.
Exactly!
A+ As a California Building Contractor that was a lot of fine carpentry .... enjoying the series
Hey thank you!🙏
It's always nice to see you use reclaimed objects and materials in your builds. It adds a ton of character to the atmosphere.
And what does a guy have to do in order to get some of those Karen cookies? (@Maxid1)
Hey thanks so much. And let me know when you find out about those cookies!
I guess you picked black, but I would always pick red. Thanks for sharing
Thank YOU for watching.
I don't either..no nail gun..
Just wondering, on the wood shed what type wood and or wood stain color was used? Planning on a small privacy fence to in close our carport and I think that would blend in nicely. Thx and you and Karen have a great Memorial Day weekend
That’s an Olympic brand stain, Cedar Naturaltone Semi Transparent. I think there’s a link in the video description. We love the color…same on all of our buildings.
light blue like the skies
I agree! Red door for The Red Moose Ranch, I Like your Tee shirt but mine is White, "just sayin"
🙏
The entire cabin looks fantastic. All the interior trim boards are spot on. Any color on the door that you and Karen select will be perfect I'm sure. If it was up to me. It would use the same red as used in "Life on the Moose" logo.
Thank you! 🙏
Not sure what color you picked, but our old place we lost always had A Green Door. It fit in well with the pine and cabin color. Plus there was an song from the early 60s about a green door and party time lol.
I’ll have to look into that song!
Trim is awesome. Interior of the cabin is elegant in its simplicity. Door color: dark color to match the metal roof/lowe siding.
I appreciate that! 🙏
Dark dark rust red ☮️😎
Is it me or when you showed the rabbit under the cabin i think i saw your beam off it's plate? Just wondering, but nice work😊
Slightly askew since it’s construction. Thanks!
I think the paint color for the door is either black or dark red but honestly, any color would work....a forest green would be beautiful. Looking good moose man!
🙏
This cabin gets better and better. Very nice work. As you were staining I continued to see the fantastic views.
Perfect!
👍 guessing green as well
Love the transition board with the saw marks!!
Teal green for the door
Q: “What color do you think we chose?” A. The wrong one, of course! 😂
🤣
Nice work! What kind of Chile did you have for lunch?😊
Ha! I believe I had bear spaghetti that day.
Hey, did you fix your table saw and adjust the height of the blade? lol
I did not! Barely had enough to get through those boards at a 45’.
That finished it off rather nicely! Looks great!!
Thanks!
Wasn't a countertop or a sink supposed to go between those two cabinets in front of the window?
Not in the plans at this point.
Hunter green for the door
Hello Patrick, it’s good to be back on the job site with you again!
The trim really makes all the difference in your cabin!
The recycled piece from the old house looks fantastic as trim on the one wall with the light fixture!! Aren’t you glad you decided not to paint that wall.
Well, till next week I’ll join you again. Take care of yourself Patrick.
Hello! Thank you. 🙏 Indeed, glad we didn’t paint that wall. See you next week!
Forest green 😀
I like the idea of a red door (Red Moose) but a green like the metal would be pretty awesome too!
Great work - almost done!!!
Getting close! 🙏
Green or white
I really love the , "Lets get to work!" I feel so included and productive while I sit here shirking my solar project objectives. Yeah, "objectives". Mostly I'm just objecting to working out the myriad problems I have and that I'm causing for myself...
I think I’ve been there…a lot!
Kerry green
Green door.
green freckle friend patrick i'm also freckled
👍🏻
Red Green?
green
Nice
Red
Am I the only one on earth that doesn't have a nail gun?
Yes!😂
Why's the woodshed so far from the house?
Good Q! Wanted a flat space along the lane we could drive to, load, unload etc…with soil we could dig in, that didn’t block views.
Looks awesome, I go with forest green
Thanks!!
I love the color of the belly band!
I agree! That old fir is rich with warmth.
That’s going to be so nice for family or friends to stay in!
🙏
@ 6:45 once again I think you would benefit greatly if you at least add a feather board to the fence to hold the piece down firmly
Looks good brother great job
I appreciate that. 🙏
I think your door would look good in the charcoal color of the lower steel siding.
You picked the color of the metall cladding
Moode Approved PPE
🙏
too bad no water
Not inside the cabin…
No hats???? Too hot to wear my good looking hoodie!
Red Moose... Red door.
Hats should be soon…tried one brand out I’m not thrilled with.
Fav channel.
That’s so awesome! 🙏
I would choose burnt orange, dark green, or a deep red
Great job
🙏
The view
🙏
The meadowlarks in the background are reminding me of my childhood growing up in Wyoming! What state are you in Patrick? I have loved following your progress on the Spur Cabin. Keep it up!
Love those larks…
In NE Washington. 🙏
Thanks for the wide-angle view of the sky over the ranch as you sanded
- some of us LUV watching you do sanding- extra special with the camera angle
My pleasure! Figured having something to look at other than me sanding would be a good thing. 🙏
New Sub here. Currently binge-watching your videos. You sir, are living my dream. I don't know if you've done this yet, as I'm not through watching all of your uploads, but I'd be interested in a little "coffee talk video with some backstory; Your background (in general - no need for personal details); where, in general (state/region) is your ranch; how all this came to be, etc. Great stuff love the channel! BTW, Door Color = Red.
Hey thank you and welcome to the channel!
Considering a QnA..
Awesome video ! Love your cabin look great trim & nice to reuse some good lumber with old memories :) Beautiful views from the cabin , Stay safe Watch for the moose :)
Thank you!🙏
Tell Karen thank you for the cookies! They were delicious!!!
Wait, what....I didn't get any!
Me either!!
I love cookies…What did I miss?!
@@LifeontheMoose Nothing. Just a little engagement theater.
Forest green or black for the door.
You will just have to start naming your episodes by season like S1:NN, S2:NN so we can binge-watch any season while you slack, Oh I mean lacque.
Love that old wood with the saw marks! Good decision to keep the notches.
Ha good idea! I will try to name them by build and episode. Thanks for being here!
I think maroon would look good on the door
Is it Friday already? You slipped in a little sanding too! Another great video Patrick. I’ll miss the weekly updates when the cabin is completed. 😢
Thank you so much! 🙏I’ll be updating you weekly on something …stay tuned!
Excellent video as always!
Great idea to put old board with notches under lamp, especially, when it's centered.. It puts everything nicely together. 👍
I will paint doors white, because, window frames are white and white looks prestige.. As other option, I will paint doors and window frames light green, because surroundings are green.. And all cabin is very green.. 😉
Now it will be interesting to see what color is it that can.. 😂 Probably, grey..
A well thought-out answer! I appreciate you watching.
Love the notched wood trim. It looks like a designer touch. I'm 100% confident the front door will be hunter green. You have really done a nice job on the little cabin. It looks really good.
Much appreciated! 🙏
The cabin is better and better by each episode. Congratulations, Patrick!
About the color for painting, I and my wife would use, if it was our cabin, a kind of dark green color. If I should bet choosing the color you had in your hand, probably I would bet for a dark gray or a dark green. 😊
Hugs and be safe!!
Thank you! 🙏 Green is a popular guess.
Im liking how the trim is looking. However, I have an issue! Evertime I have a beer in my hand you ask for help! Let's coordinate a litte tighter, ok?
That’s fair! 🤣
Do I need to bring a sleeping bag, or will you be providing those?
All I can say is, "It's a thing of beauty."
Hey thanks so much!
I’ll check with the linen coordinator… 😂
Bright postbox red, has to be😅 Baseboard we call skirting in Scotland, trim is architrave or facing and dont get me started on window cill (sill)😅
Hey good to know! Here, skirting is what we use to cover the undercarriage of a building. So this cabin will not have (American) skirting!
Sorry i might of missed it but are those other notches for something or just ambiance? Still looks good, looking forward to the colr you picked for paint😊
Both! Thank you!
If you havent already planned on it, a vidro collage from start to finish would be interesting to see. But a lot od editing.
In the works!
Paint the door green.
The belt trim looks better then I thought it would. I hope it was my comment that gave you that idea!
It was honestly a last-minute find. I forgot I kept that board!
@5:43 and 6:00. great saw tooth pattern on the old board. As much as we admire the old ways - the sawyer did not do a good job of setting the teeth on his saw - so now you get the benefit of that sloppy work we now call character
Exactly!
thanks for recording this whole thing. i appreciate that.
I appreciate you watching! 🙏
Nice marmot. Hope it’s house trained
😅🤞🏼
Grey for the door
Beautiful view, except that guy getting in the way. Lol
Exactly!
I think red, to match Red Moose. We’ll see next week!
Indeed!
Maybe black?
The sped up shots of the table saw are really scary......
Agree!
Has to be red
Red door
