  • Sky News host Andrew Bolt says some activists allege as many as “a third” of people claiming to be Aboriginal aren't.
“And this has been going on for decades. But almost no one checks. Or dares to,” he said.

I just searched on Google, "Is it illegal to identify as Aboriginal?". ANSWER: "Your Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander heritage is something that is personal to you. You do not need a letter of confirmation to identify as an Indigenous person." What are the odds that Australian Aboriginals are about to become the fastest-growing race on Earth.

we generally just tell people where we're from, our tribal name and our heritage. that is proof enough because they can go directly to the elders of that tribe and get confirmation, it's sad that they don't operate this way but it can be done. that is the best way considering we can't trace our ancestry due to christian colonisation and stolen generation.

I had discussions with Mr Bolt's lawyers during his court case about testifying for him as to whether 'identity' was a choice. I am of partial aboriginal descent, 1/32 to be precise, but do not like identity politics of any kind.
When I enrolled for a university course there was a box asking whether I was of aboriginal or Torres Strait islander descent. I inwardly groaned, but decided to give the factual, scientific answer, Yes.
I received a letter from the university telling me that as an indigenous student, I was entitled to the following benefits...
I threw the letter in the bin.
I usually do not see eye to eye with Mr Bolt on political matters, but attended an IPA function in order to meet him and also met Mr Johns who was promoting an earlier book which I bought and got signatures from them both.
PS I will be voting No in the referendum as I do not support any race being privileged in the constitution. Not all indigenous people are disadvantaged and not all disadvantaged people are indigenous. I do not 'identify' but some of my relatives, who are middle class, urban tertiary educated professionals do.
All 'gaps' in opportunity, health etc should be closed, regardless of race.

@kaneyapoudal7980 I did not say any gap was being closed. I said gaps should be closed regardless of race. It does not take constitutional change to close them.
Why are you surprised? Do you have any experience with the system?
Mr Bolt's point is that nobody checks.
If asked I could have provided such proof.
I can prove my family tree.
I could identify as aboriginal if I wished.
And as my sister and father are the officers of a recognised aboriginal corporation, I don't think I would have much trouble getting 'the mob' to accept me as indigenous.

There are an estimated 800,000 Australian citizens who claim Aboriginal heritage, and it's estimated that around 1/3 have no Aboriginal heritage at all. In Australia there are the following, taxpayer funded, organisations "assisting" Aboriginal people:
    3,278 Aboriginal Corporations.
    243 Native Title Councils.
    35 Regional Councils.
    122+ Aboriginal Agencies.
    3 Advisory Bodies.
    145 Aboriginal Health Organisations.
11 Aboriginal Members of Federal Parliament.
And $34 BILLLION Per Year allocated specifically to Aboriginal needs.

The truth is the majority of indigenous Australians live in suburbia, living modern Western lives just like the rest of us. They have jobs, they have a modern education, speak the some language as the rest of us, don't believe in shamanic traditions, and they benefit from all the modern comforts and technological wonders as the rest of us. And if we are being honest, they also share a larger portion of European ancestry than not.
So how does giving that lot a voice help the small minority who are living either traditional lives with different values or those living troubled lives in remote communities and towns? Are we really so racist as to say that if you have some smidge of other ancestry in you, you aren't one of us, you are some "other" and should be treated differently? Should an educated, middle class guy or girl who you wouldn't know was indigenous unless they told really be allowed to speak on behalf of another culture they barely know?

The welfare agency gave him a whole bunch of stuff and gave him the names of other places where he could get additional help. He couldn't believe how generous and helpful they were. He managed without additional help but a few weeks later he mentioned what had happened to his temporary boss. That was when he found out that a mob of aborigines in that town had the same surname as his. He wasn't related to these aborigines (as far as he knows) but just having the same surname was enough to get him benefits he'd never get back in his home state.

I was in Demography in the ABS for years. The problem statisticians have with collecting aboriginal statistics is that they can't get any hard proof. All we could do is use what is declared on the form or in the case of the Censuses, sometimes verbally to a collector. But where there are a large range of benefits of a financial kind and now for university entry (insane) in saying you are aboriginal, many less scrupulous people are going to rort it. And they are, all the time. There should be no such benefits based on race. It should be objective based on personal circumstances. That might well put an end to it all.

ANOTHER ONE OF ALBO’S FAKE MATES????
      By
      Paul Zanetti-
      Thomas Mayor (aka Thomas Mayo)
Is he another fake aboriginal in the mould of Bruce Pascoe?
For starters Mayo has changed his surname from ‘Mayor’ to ‘Mayo’ perhaps to sound more ‘aboriginal’. (Mayo…Mabo….).
On his personal website he claims to be a Kaurareg Aboriginal and Kalkalgal, Erubamle Torres Strait Islander man.
However, his heritage shows zero aboriginality.
The Independent Education website describes Mayor differently and more accurately:
“His father, Celestino Mayor, is….ofPhilippine and Dayak (Borneo) ancestry and his mother, Liz Mayor, brings Polish, Jewish and English ancestry to the family.”
Nothing about aboriginal heritage. And Mayo…er…Mayor would certainly bang on about it if it were so, wouldn’t he?
Is he another opportunistic racial appropriator using genuine aborigines to push his Communist agenda?.
Mayo…or Mayor…..er…whatever….is, according to The Australian:
“…a militant unionist and outspoken figure on the government’s First Nations referendum working group (amd) has raised the prospect of a voice to parliament being the first step towards “reparations and compensation” for Indigenous Australians.
Videos unearthed by No campaign strategists feature Mr Mayo appearing in online forums run by the Search Foundation - established in 1990 as a “successor -organisation of the Communist Party of Australia” to preserve the socialist movement.
Mayo, one of the strongest backers of a voice body, in 2021 told the Search Foundation that the power of the voice was its ability to “punish politicians that ignore our advice” on legislation and funding.
At an Invasion Day rally the same year, the author and former wharfie said “we need the constitutional right to have a united voice … we need the power of the Constitution behind us so we can organise like we’ve never organised before”.
“We are sick of governments telling us no, we are sick of governments not listening to our voice. We are going to use the rule book of the nation to force them,” he said.
In another video, Mr Mayo said the voice was a “vital step” in delivering outcomes detailed in the Uluru Statement from the Heart.
“‘Pay the Rent’ for example, how do we do that in a way that is transparent and that actually sees reparations and compensation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people beyond what we say and do at a rally?” he said.”
Former Queensland Senator, Amanda Stoker says Mayo, was recorded saying he expected the Voice to “get its hands” on superannuation policy while talking to independent MP Zoe Daniel.
“The bloke who designed the Voice … wants a practical veto on super policy because remember, Mr Albanese said it would be ‘a brave government’ that didn’t do as the Voice says,” Ms Stoker said.
“That’s not democracy. So, it’s time for the government to come clean. How much power will the Voice have over your retirement savings?
Another Communist masquerading as an aboriginal to get their hands on our Constitution, your Superannuation and your land?

Worked for StatsNZ. Not sure if Aboriginal groups are the same but after talking with Maori leaders they themselves have almost zero information on who are part of their Iwi (tribe) so they will take anyone claiming to be one of them at face value - makes it just that much easier to game the trust based system. Stats agencies rely on people to provide their data in good faith so perverse incentives like race based benefits are really just going to end up doing more harm to our indigenous groups than they realise as once their population group gets distorted by non-indigenous claiming to be one any research/planning/funding done will become less accurate and targeted/effective...

It has become common in the Western World, a very sad behavioural trait and one of the many poor outcomes of identity politics. In the US a Senator named Elizabeth Warren claimed she was of North American Indian ancestry and used that on various forms to gain employment advantage and academic leverage. In the end, and following a DNA test, she had to apologise to the Cherokee Nation. Mostly these behaviours are deliberate and used to gain either financial benefit or access to specific career opportunities. In both cases its fraudulent misrepresentation and if a benefit has been gained they should be charged with fraud.

I can't possibly think why anyone would want to claim to be Aboriginal in a system that's supposed to treat everyone as equal(!) Except, of course, when it doesn't. So-called, 'positive discrimination', that claims to rebalance supposed inequalities whilst actually placing a thumb down on one side of the scales in the name of political correctness. Small wonder then that there's an increasing number of people claiming to be on the side the scales are weighted down in favour of. Exposing what's supposed to be a fairer system for what it really is. Replacing one form of discrimination with another.
