My younger daughter went to the same uni to do nursing, in 1992. Nursing was fee free until she finished the course. The next year, 1995, fees kicked in. My older child paid off the fees for years.

I have a friend who lied about her daughter saying she was part aboriginal just so her daughter could get special treatment in high school. She was failing most of her classes until her mother lied to the school and suddenly she was in a aboriginal school program and her grades went from d’s to a’s and b’s. Her mother told me she did it because she was told that’s how it works in that town for aboriginals, give them passing grades or they won’t attend school.

In 1980, my semester fees were $780-ish. Very difficult as a 28yr old widow, with two small children, so no free education for me.
My younger daughter went to the same uni to do nursing, in 1992. Nursing was fee free until she finished the course. The next year, 1995, fees kicked in. My older child paid off the fees for years.

Thats a whole new conversation the differences between what you are entitled to under Austudy versus Abstudy was astounding and not equal at all to non-Aboriginals. I have a friend who lied about her daughter saying she was part aboriginal just so her daughter could get special treatment in high school. She was failing most of her classes until her mother lied to the school and suddenly she was in a aboriginal school program and her grades went from d’s to a’s and b’s. Her mother told me she did it because she was told that’s how it works in that town for aboriginals, give them passing grades or they won’t attend school.
